>one autist with a penchant for recognizing matching digits successfully predicts the housing crash >he still almost goes bankrupt because Wall Street is too stubborn to admit it and tries to cover it up >no one interviews him afterwards to find out how he saw it coming and how they can stop it from happening again
burry has done a shitload of interviews after the crash. it's just the movie doesn't need to show those and focuses on the event itself, which is how you make a fucking movie you autist.
you want a post-script, go read the news or watch an interview, nobody wants to go to the theater and see that shit
Carter Gray
part of the movie was you didn't need to be a super-genius level iq to see that hookers that owned 4 houses and were considering more meant the market may be a little fucked
Logan Reyes
The movie wasn't about the finance guys at all, it was about the unabashed American optimism that the economy will never be bad
Jaxon Ross
>>no one interviews him afterwards to find out how he saw it coming and how they can stop it from happening again They started selling and bundling sub-prime mortgages a gain so we'll see if he can predict it a second time.
Jacob Thompson
Hes gone into buying land with water on it. smart fucker.
Camden Collins
not bad, but check these
Jose Flores
I don't think they would let him profit from it. Those people will do anything to hold onto their money. I'll never understand it. It's more money than a normal person could ever use in their life and yet they just want more, more, more.
James Peterson
It's like cheat codes in a video game. Once you have infinite health, why not infinite ammo? Why not try to kill everyone in the map? Then you get board and want to quit the game. That's when you retire from being a money guy and live as a hippy and shop at costco. you learn to put restraints on yourself or you just spiral out and lose it all/become a druggie.
Levi Turner
it's what happens when you start climbing the social ladder. there's always gonna be somebody more wealthy than you but if you got that drive you gotta have what they have
Andrew Carter
not much wrong with it the absurd humour and self awareness actually work quite well in this one. Probably McKay's best. Vice on the other hand...
Owen Long
Only people who hate Vice are people who are deluded enough to think Bush was a good president.
Mason Sanchez
I'm not an American you moron, why would I give a fuck about your country's presidency? Vice is pretty much a parody of what's good about Big Short. The same jokes were reused but this time they're just not so on point anymore, probably has to do with the fact that McKay has little experience with making political comedy. Not to mention the shoddy camera works and incoherent editing, which, again, worked relativelywell for the absurdity of TBS The performances are the only good things about this film
Parker Ramirez
Im glad you have access to the internet in a 3rd world country
Daniel Ward
>one autist with a penchant for recognizing matching digits
Everyone always goes "hur dur, how did no one know!?!" Thats not what the movie is about. Its about people shorting the market for personal gain. Some knew. Some didnt want to believe it. Same with every bubble. Everyone would rather lie to themselves about how good things are
Mason Gutierrez
Just like today. The Dodd Frank repeal from last year is going to lead to the same thing happening again, and I guarantee you it's going to be timed right so that it can be blamed on everyone except for the man who is actually responsible for it.
The funniest shit is the movie showing these Wall St jewish investors getting angry that the market they shorted doesnt pop already as some anti capitalist moral crusade and a sign of how unfair and irrational it all is
Eli Turner
The government made the entire thing happen by incentivizing loans for minorities and poor people that they all knew couldn't pay. They did the same thing today with student loans but made it unable to be bankrupted away so it can't collapse.
Alexander Smith
Cheney's joyless cruelty isn't shown properly. Even Nolan's trashy batman movies worked the neocon logic and their holes (and appeal) better
Also lol "Israel is against the war" fucking lmao
Levi Reyes
Wait, is this the only movie where Ryan Gosling played a Jew?
Brayden Morgan
He played a jewish skinhead when young in a shitty movie
Wyatt Myers
The whole system was flawed. Government, banks, FED, SEC, banking model of originating to distribute, AIG insuring structured finance products, the rating agencies and so on. Everyone thought it was too good to be true but kept going for it.
William Howard
As bad as the crash was, it never really had the widespread socio-economic effects that the Great Depression resulted in.
If you shorted like these guys did, cashed out, and then bought equities near the bottom of the market in March 2009, you'd be a very rich man now.
Jonathan Russell
>Christian Bale recognizes matching digits Hold on, I've seen that somewhere else before
It would have kept on going if the Fed was willing to take the inflation hit, desu. It's the contraction of credit that destroys the bubble, not necessarily the outrageousness of the bubble itself.
Basically, the in the rate cycle the Fed raises rates until something breaks, and then they cut, start again. Rinse and repreat.
Jose Smith
Regardless of our knowledge about corporate/private greed, there isn't much we can do about it.
Aiden Scott
based upon housing value, they were estimating the average household income in '06 was over $100k a year.
So the main disconnect was how everything was saying everyone was more prosperous than ever, despite it actually meaning the economy was about to collapse.
Yeah, but the expansion of credit was fueled by low rates in first place. Greenspan kept lowering rates whenever the stock market collapsed, this combined with the savings glut created a low interest rate environment and bad investment was made. Fed had to raise rates and the bubble suddenly exploded, clearly because most subprime mortgages were 2/28
Kevin Thompson
You people are like conservatives who still like Romney or some shit
Gabriel White
If regulations are maintained in one corner of the world, investments will easily shift away to easily exploitable countries. Which is already happening, but there will be an increased concentration.
Joseph Cook
go back to ausfinance
Chase Lewis
How do hookers have access to credit at all it's not like they get paid by cheques, are they really putting all of their $1 bills in a savings account?
Brandon Russell
I'd like to see them try and undercut the one country with functioning nukes. See how that turns out for them.
Alexander Butler
but I have never had fun playing with cheat codes. I try to play with cheat codes for 20-30 minutes and then back to the normal game. My granddad left me a 3 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. Now I am just happy making 65-70k every year. I left a job that paid me more with worse work hours but what is the point?
After a point, more money must not mean much. If you can earn enough to buy a house in your city of choice and have good yearly income to pay the bills and still save 10-20k every year then that is the good life. These people must be miserable outside of work otherwise they would have quit a long time ago.
Wyatt Wilson
Past a certain amount, money stops being a means to sustain yourself and your family and it becomes power instead.
Financial power isn't the only type of power, but it's a very big one.
Brandon Rogers
The ultra-rich have extreme influence over EVERYTHING. Have you heard of lobbying??? Proxy wars??? There's no limit to the imagination of what the 1% is capable of without any semblance of repercussions.
Thomas Cooper
>My granddad left me a 3 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn
Oy gevalt!
Oliver Jenkins
>There's no limit to the imagination of what the 1% is capable of without any semblance of repercussions. Yeah but can you sincerely imagine someone like pic related doing something crazy like funding Blackwater mercs to overthrow an African dictator, instead of spending money on gay shit like a foundation that pays for tranny surgeries?
Yes. The Harvard elite that Zuckerberg is apart of all do that.
Noah Perry
It's pretty obvious that Zuckerberg is the one funding the dictator.
Eli Jenkins
>find out how he saw it coming
it's called due dilligence
>how they can stop it from happening again
you can't stop it from happening again, wall street decides what happens when and why and how because there's no real independent accountability to be had, at most a lone autist trying to rain on their parade, seems you missed this integral point of the movie
Landon Cook
Honesly? Realistically? No
Ryder Myers
Why would the Zucc need to fund mercenaries to overthrow any country if he has complete control over tools capable of manipulating public opinion worldwide unbeknownst to anyone?
