I've seen every Godzilla movie multiple times. Mostly the human component is something milquetoast and tame that serves to string the audience between action scenes. The human component of KOTM seems like something that will literally be a chore to watch. The casting is fucking awful from the weird little boy girl child thing to the old cunt with the weird mouth we're supposed to believe is the boss to the ethnically ambiguous military personnel. The trailer is full of unfunny Marvel tier quips. It just looks fucking awful.

I don't like how everything is either blue of orange. And while I certainly enjoy the focus on kaiju after 2016, it really feels like there's no direction to how they are presented and the scale of the creatures is completely lost.

I also kind of feel like they've made the kaiju so big now that their sense of scale is hard to gather when they completely tower over everything if they aren't in a metropolitan area

Giant monster movies are cemented in cinema history and have been made since the very beginning so despite being inherently simple and sometimes immature they are usually respected enough as a genre to be left alone despite being mostly ignored by normalfags. Also not to mention the sheer amount of capeshit that has been made in a short amount of time. In the past 60 years there has only been 31 Godzilla movies not counting the anime ones. Marvel alone has nearly caught up to that in the span of a decade and shows no sign of stopping and without counting it's competitors. There are 8 super hero movies coming out this year alone. If you don't see a problem with that I don't know what to say. I love capeshit and will continue to enjoy them but it's obvious why there is a stigma on this board. Most of the Showa movies have interesting plots (even if they are campy and outrageous stories about alien invasions and stuff), because Godzilla was usually not the primary focus of the movie. Most of the Showa movies revolved around the human characters setting up a monster for Godzilla to fight, and then Godzilla just kind of comes out of the background and does his thing. It makes the series much more interesting than the Heisei movies, which are almost all completely about Godzilla fighting some other monster that came about by some contrivance.

I understand why they thought it was bad (weird pace, they don't show the monster enough, Bryan Cranston dies too fucking early), but I really liked it. The first time I saw it I remember being charmed by how blatantly Gareth Edwards was ripping off Spielberg, but in a cool and actually mysterious way (not the bullshit pandering way that JJ Abrams does it) and when Goji actually starts kicking ass it's incredible. That power-up Atomic Breath sound effect makes me lose my fucking mind.

That wasn't the problem. The problem was that the movie was called "Godzilla," but Godzilla was not even the main focus of the movie. The plot was entirely driven by these ugly new monsters no one gives a shit about. Godzilla was just chilling in the background, and the movie did these stupid blue-balling cutaways from the titular character after he finally did appear something like 40 minutes into the whole thing.

That's true of something like Godzilla vs Megalon. Godzilla 2014 is just boring, and its terribleness is magnified by the fact that they're going for a "serious" angle with this series of giant monster movies.

Cutting the Honolulu fight was a mistake because it's something that other characters saw and only the audience is left out. Other than that I must say it's maybe the best use of military in this type of movies especially HALO but in general it's how it's supposed to look not like in Transformers.

I used to listen to the Blue Oyster Cult version, and this is harsher, and more in line with Japanese culture. I like it a lot, but do not disregard BOC.

That sort of thing works in a monster movie that emulates a slasher movie like Jaws or Jurassic Park. It doesn't work in a giant monster movie where the entire point is that the monster is so huge that you can't miss it. Rodan 1956 does it better, because the Rodans are flying so fast that no one really gets a good look at them until they come down to earth and start destroying things.
I'm fine with new monsters as long as they don't look like ass. The MUTOs did not have designs that were memorable. If you asked a kid to draw one from memory, do you think he could? That's what makes a good monster design. The take wasn't new either. Gareth Edwards tried to rip off Spielberg, because Godzilla is apparently supposed to be like Jaws now.

Don't get me wrong, the BOC version kicks ass. 70's rock is always fun, plus it's such a silly premise for a song that I can't help but admire it. The fact that it got adapted AT ALL for KoTM is testament to how much they want to please fans.

I do love the drums and chanting in the new one though, and hearing those elements echoed throughout the soundtrack for the film is fucking wonderful.
