The third book is only seens as good because of all the twists. The series sucks, the characters are not interesting if you read actually non fiction and understand how important people from the past actually acted and thought like. Dont waste your time

99.9% of cases books are better than the shows or movies. This is because with a book you can go more in depth about things and storylines and aren't limited by time whereas in a movie or show you are. Something you don't quite understand? There will be a chapter explaining the whole fucking thing at one point. Plus the books are 500+ pages. They lay out more groundwork and detail than what you would find in the show. Also you get the authors direct storytelling rather than someone elses writing.

Its a little bit better than the show. People have been praising the books ever since the show past the books and so they cant compare the show to the books. But the show actually did a lot of things better than the last two books. If you have watched the show, you dont need to read the books. Everything will play out the same except for a few differences. But yes, the White Walkers will be defeated and then Dany will attack Kings Landing or some other city, then Jon will kill her and then it will be over.

In book #3 Jorah walks in on Daenerys feeding her dragons in her bed and he straight up kisses her and touches her tits

The first three books are excellent, especially Storm of Swords. The quality goes down a bit for the last two books. The most interesting thing about them is the new characters like Euron and the Dorne POV stuff (both of which the TV show completely changed and imo for the worse). Meanwhile the characters we already know from the first three books feel kinda stuck in place and take absolutely ages to do anything. I feel like in the early books something significant happened every chapter. Then we get to book 4 and all of a sudden I'm reading 5 chapters of Brienne and Podrick wandering round and achieving nothing. Overall though I still think I prefer the book story to the route the TV show took.

Sandor is a much better, more fleshed out character in the books. Arya is as well, instead of just being a lolmurderassassin

The issue with the last two books is he couldn't keep up the pace of releasing new books, the last book he released was basically 100% setup for Winds, but it's been almost a decade and still no fucking release in sight.

In general it tells the story in a very interesting way. He uses POV characters to tell the story, and they have limited information, understanding, and their own biases so if you want the whole story you have to pay attention to background details. We never get the POV of a king's perspective, Daenary's is the only monarch to have POV chapter. So a lot of their decisions and thinking can be ambiguous. Things like Renly being gay are not overwhelmingly obvious in the books, and there is obviously a lot of plots going on that the characters aren't aware of. This limited information is why fan theories are so popular.
The better parts are

Books 1-3 build the world and the story flows seamlessly. Books 4-5 are just lore+ and they don't push the story too much because the fuck fuck decided to make one book for half the characters and the other for the other half. So you end up rewinding in 5 just to see what the others were doing in all this time. I have a love-hate relationship with these books.

Honestly, the value comparison of classical literature and genre-fiction of any kind is empty. Two wildly different arts that appeal to two different appetites and readers can have different appetites.

I honestly don't see how that could be the case. The books have already set lots of characters down paths that are very different from the TV show. I'm thinking of things like Lady Stone Heart, Euron Greyjoy, The Dornish Master Plan, Young Griff and Rickon Stark. Even if the book and show have some similarities there is plenty of material here that will be totally different. Hell there are already entire character arcs that the show didn't include. If you care about this world and these characters then books are definetly worth reading.

The next one is supposed to be 1500 pages, which should logically take 9 years, but now that he's busy producing, who fucking knows.
