Why is it so hard to make a realistic high school show or film? The only one that's ever come close was Gus Van Vants Elephant
Sex Education
Because the “high school students are drug-addled sex fiends with progressive minds and hearts of gold trying to find their place in life” concept is complete horse shit. I’d just come home and play video games only to realize 90% of student body did the same thing. It must be only California schools because east coast is nothing like what they show in movies and tv.
Sex Education was actually a pretty ok show btw.
Sex education is well made garbage. The writing is 1/10 and it makes me doubt whether or not women should be allowed to create art
Fast Times still holds up, it's based on the writer's real experiences going undercover in a high school
They didnt have to try that hard
>american teen movies
"boy im such a le misunderstood outsider who loves sex and drugs"
>french teen movie
Spends every waking moment trying to avoid working.
Parents are assholes who dont care about you
The world is cruel and indifferent when you are a boy.
*15 min scene of boy running away from to arrive at the beach then stare at the camera
fin
Fast times was teen sex garbage. Most peoples highschool lives dont revolve around sex
>one that's ever come close was Gus Van Vants Elephant
Edgy. But no, I'd say Freaks & Geeks did a good job. As well as and Clueless if you were a WASP from the 90's
Before the shooting Elephant was very realistic to how high school is like
It was the early 80s, they didn't have internet porn.
a realistic high school show would be too shocking and too dark
Americans do not want unflinching honesty. They want to be reassured and told that life has a purpose. They want to escape.
>too shocking and too dark
No it wouldnt, it would just be slow and mundane for a bit
90% of my high school life was spent standing outside the cafeteria with my friends as we talked shit to each other and did cruel, inhumane, and politically incorrect things. The other 10 percent was spent sleeping in class, not paying attention, and doodling in my notebook.
The highlight of any day where when people would get into fights and all the kids gathered around the fight to yell "kick his ass"
Once we all graduated we all went to community college for 6 months, dropped out, and became burn out losers who never achieved nothing
This is a stark contrast from the made up world of white liberals where everyone goes to collge, everyone has a great life, the only thing that matters is sex and drugs and getting laid. And the idea that there a groups of multicultural friends that all hang out with each other. Or that young people all vote democrat or even care about politics. Like i bet there are kids in high school right now who think trumps fucking hilarious and they love that he scares people
I bet they go around stupidly repeating his tweets at people
Can there be a high school show where the characters are actually socially well-adjusted but the plot and character development is driven by them accomplishing? Like Captain Kirk and the Classic series Doctor Who were able to solve dilemmas and reach goals without having to rely too much on angst and 'waah can't fit in'
I have a vivid memory of me and my friends hanging outside the cafeteria and we found a half dead bird, and one of the kids kicked it and its guts exploded and everyone yelled OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
stories need conflict you retard. No one wants your boring pol faggotry
Rate this kino
Does conflict have to always be the wimpy Other vs the mean bullies?
Power Rangers had good-looking jocks who could work hard and be great role models to their schoolmates, while saving the world from the evil space baddies
It is realistic. On the right is literally me.
they all look 30
what the fuck does /pol/ have to do with dropping the endless "le hero outcast vs le evil normies" garbage you dumbfuck
I thought Derry Girls was pretty accurate.
BASED
No one cares about your self insert fantasy dude
Imperfection is what creates conflict and creates tragedy which creates changes. Or character and story arcs
Who says the main character is without flaws?
He can still struggle with making mistakes, failure, adversity, people who are incredibly dysfunctional, maybe even health problems.
Do you really think Chad and Stacey are gods or something, raining tyranny on poor little incel user?
Skins was accurate, for me.
>tfw fascinated with the idea of young love and watch content surrounding it
>nothing has ever given me an understanding of it
It's possible it really is that superficial, but even then, I don't get it.
Freaks & Geeks was pretty much my high school experience. Also, high school is mostly class/work/friends. It would be mundane if it was realistic, but not written well.
American Vandal.
Nice.
You can make beauty out of the mundane. I think if Abbas Kiarostami was alive and came to america to make a high school film he could do it masterfully
The inbetweeners
most people lose their virginities in high school user.
just because sex wasn't a part of YOUR high school experience doesn't mean it wasn't for others, especially the popular kids.
This is the only content (somewhat) about teen romance I've ever watched that was remotely well-written. I would be interested if somebody could offer examples of well-written material about teen romance, not necessarily in the same style.
Most people are virgins until senior year and its far from a big deal
factually false
I appreciate the candidness of this post, user.
>emma mackey not nude in Season 1
season 2 is gonna be multiple nude scenes
screencap this
Napoleon dynamite for a comedy did pretty fucking well at showing how lame school is
