Bascinets are bigger. They have better cushioning that protects you from blunt strikes. They're also peaked, helping deflect and lead away sword and spear stabs. The visors were essential on the battlefield user. Early bascinets had "pigfaced" visors which were great anti-arrow protections. Hearing, breathing and visibility are worthy sacrifices when you're charging thousands of British yeoman archer cunts feathering you with arrows.

Barbute on the other hand were much smaller helmets without deflective curves. They were an off-shoot from sallet helmets. Sallet evolved from (great) bascinets when armor parts such as gorget were starting to be developed. After the gorget you'd get an additional bevor which would more or less render the bascinet's mail aventail redundant. This is why the sallet were designed to go together with a bevor. Same goes for the barbute. They were simply from another era with different armor components, situations and mentality.

But the thing is barbutes were mostly made in Italy and they were praised for their aesthetics due to their olden "Roman" inspired designs. They weren't really prominent on the battlefield or other parts of Europe. Slapping a bascinet's flat visor on it defeats the entire point of a barbute and it makes no historical sense anyway.
