It's showing 3.6R.
Not good, but not bad either.
You need to get the good dosimeter from the safe.
Is this a better bromance than Francis and James?
>Then you are free
>Mine your uranium from another lode, comrade
seems perfectly safe, only about a chest xray.
I don't know. On one hand we got depressed scientist and career party man who hated each other at first but over time trying to save the world become good broskis, but on the other we got two sea men that hated each other at first but in the face of hardship trying to survive become great friends.
Both these cases are kino brotherhood stories.
This needs an update
what would his catchphrase be?
I just started watching, and I love how it makes radiation seem like some sort of dark, malicious magic sent to torment humans for their hubris in trying to harness it. The opening scenes are making me into a Luddite. It's awesome.
>The flames from the explosion being a weird color
>The random rock the firefighter picks up that starts hurting his hand a little while after touching it for no reason
>The reactor belching fire an brimstone like some sort of portal to Hell
No wonder past people used gods and magic to describe phenomena in the past. How do you explain this shit?
>>The random rock the firefighter picks up that starts hurting his hand a little while after touching it for no reason
That fireman was identified
That's not a dosimeter, it's a Fehrnheim detector. You really need to source your pics, OP.
Shit on it!
>radiation seem like some sort of dark, malicious magic sent to torment humans for their hubris in trying to harness it
it isn't, it's showing the innate failings of the soviet system and what happens when you do things on the cheap and think you can get away with it. radiation isn't dangerous, retards that don't know how to do their jobs are.
You call turbines steamed fans?
>Still no Friends opening parody
Don't make me do it i have zero editing skills
oh fuck off with your political commentary, faggot
My evolved brain knows that and I'm a huge advocate for nuclear power, but my chimp brain can't help but feel very uneasy about invisible rays that can kill me while having all sorts of other weird effects on the environment.
soviet reactors don't blow up
that's literally what this show is about, faggot
then it's propaganda
You don't when you don't inform anyone, of course if I did not know about radiations I would be like "is just a fire, how the hell could I be harmed all the way here?"
But fire are dangerous, and so is electricity and this is just a matter of history repeating itself in the category "this shit is dangerous tell everyone about it so they can contain it", we know most buildings won't catch fire, but we still give them all a fire safety system and fire extinguishers.
>call the fire brigade
More like 400
>radiation isn't dangerous
based mutant poster
The Soviet Communist Party and the KGB made the 'radiophobia' accusation very popular in the 80's.
That's all you need to know about their subversion of Western societies now.
you're experiencing radiation right now without mutating, smoothskin
Aaaaahh...
It's not funny.
Ahem, fuck Yeltsin
t. Scsherbina
>Call in the day shift
Was he evil or stupid? Or delusional?
>without mutating
thats where you're wrong ghoul
>radiophobia
>its a bad thing to be scared of radiation
jesus christ
Better than the actual intro.
Dumbest post I've ever read
Everybody mutates a bit, it's called evolution
sola dosis facit venenum
>without mutating
Based retard.
It's a bad thing to be irrationally scared of nuclear power. That's what the entire thing was about, Jesus.
True it is very hard to choose come to think of it
>t. Big Coal that is subverting Western societies to this day
The most prominent "Anti-Nuclear" campaigners are in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry. I wonder why that is...
mostly evil. he did rape too
I live near the Hanford Nuclear Reservation and we constantly have ads on tv for free in home health care for former employees. Not dangerous my ass.
Shoddy quality is often just as good as the high quality stuff.
*unzips graphite*
that's latin for "I'm a pretentious shit"
Evolutionary mutation happens in the fucking womb when your DNA shifts to not become a carbon copy of your parents. If your cells spontaneously "mutate" as an adult, you have fucking cancer.
Thank you comrade Dyatlov.
Yeah no, it was used against whistleblowers and activists who demanded to know the truth.
Just say it in English you prancing homo la-la man
>you have fucking cancer.
We're all having small cancers developing RIGHT NOW.
What are the similarities between a nuclear power plant and an atomic bomb?
asking for a friend
And now, without the attitude.
yes , the bromance between minerbros
Why'd they all wear those scarves on their head? It's not like it was going to protect them from anything.
A nuclear power plant boils water to power cities. A nuclear bomb boils cities.
I think it means "only the does makes the poison" but not to sure.
fashion
To troll the apparatchiks with oneliners
English is primitive, rough and rudimentary. Based Paracelsus doesn't deserve to have his maxima translated, ergo butchered, like that.
You got something against looking /fa/?
No, because generally your cells don't have a broken DNA sequence. Your cells don't mutate when they split.
They both split the atom, that's it.
>tfw you realize a nuclear power plant is just a big kettle
Don't feed of dogs, please
The Russians financed the Gasland2 propaganda movie. It's a fact, you can look it up.
God, watching the ignorance with the children playing in the radioactive ash reminds me so much of the US nuclear bomb tests. Why is everything nuke related so kino?
youtube.com
I dislike the memes. They don't show that this is a serious disaster.
I don't like Apu.
Yeah no, you're an idiot. Radiophobia is real disorder

More kino, your grace?
1000 hours in paint
he's not edited
I did my best.
...
I love the show but hate how its going to give ammunition to the anti-nuclear crowd.
Do you think this show will further damage people's perception of nuclear power? I'm not expert on the subject but isn't every reactor in service an upgraded gen II which were built in the 70's and 80's without CAD or anything.
So because Russia financed a documentary that discredited natural gas as a proponent of 'clean energy', we should all live in the shadow of a coal plant is what you're essentially arguing about? You realize that I can be of the opinion that propaganda, irregardless of its source, is bad, right?
More rads, your face?
Next time just say "I am gay"
dont worry, if you care too much about quality you never get anything done
Only a total retard would still support nuclear power after watching this. These reactors are inherently unstable, produce massive amounts of radioactive waste, and don't even produce much power to begin with. Wind and solar are the future, and no amount of nuclear lobby shills will change that fact.
Thats what matters, fren
Why cant Russia have a fun president like Yeltsin again, Putin's strongman stique really isnt as entertaining.
And what did the post say exactly?
The KGB can make anything 'real' in the West.
Educate yourself, dumb fuck.
nytimes.com
You took the words right out of comrade Dyatlovs mouth.
Who uses these reactors anymore?
>wind and solar are the future
Shit bait
It truly was her turn
The only ammunition it gives is to brainlets that don't know enough to have even an ill-informed opinion, which is from whom the politicians are already taking their opinionated views from. Literally nothing will change after this
>wind
okay so we just kill all bats and then the crops dont get pollinated and everyone dies sick plan genius
fank
Wow, nice oil lobby talking point, shill.
>a hostile foreign power raping me in the ass is good because there is industry lobbying too
You know that you're mentally insane, right?
Search for "Tozk-5 nuclear test", Soviets send literal army into the strike radius, PLANES WERE ORDERED TO FLY THROUGH THE MUSHROOM CLOUD
Why didn't their eyes go read like their skin?
>just ignore the bats its fine we dont need bats haha you never even see them anyway
fucking green lobby
it's like you didn't read his post at all, are you autistic or something?
>Francis and James
whats that?
And we're on to namecalling. *Sigh*
>muh russia
fuck off alarmist retard
KGB hasn't existed since the fall of the USSR and the budget of the FSB is like a 100th that of the CIA. If you actually believe in le subvertion of the US you should neck yourself. Hillary didnt lose because of some Twitter bots, she lost because nobody wanted to vote for a shrew.
petrol is a much safer and produces far less pollution
The KGB doesn't care whose turn or what ideology, they want to maximize chaos.
From the Terror.
It is a shitty series when you look at it as on historical tale about Chernobyl. Howewer, it is a great adaptation of Lovecraft's "Color from outer space".
>These reactors are inherently unstable,
No they aren't. Retards deciding to do experiments in the power plant are inherently unstable.
no
>petrol produces less polution than nuclear
u wot m8?
>It is a shitty series when you look at it as on historical tale about Chernobyl.
True
>when a hostile foreign power is telling me lies it's bad
>but when a hostile foreign corporation is telling me lies it's good
I imagine you'd have to be incapable of thinking rationally to not see this
it produces fewer ghouls though you cant argue that, apart from in australia i guess
The KGB doesn't exist any more, user.
again with the not reading posts.
The KGB doesn't exist, and when it did, they weren't your Boomer movie version
just leave it
I knew it was you, little Russkie monkey.
Do more damage control in Yea Forums because your shithole is losing badly.
He's probably a Pole shilling for more US coal.
The KGB doesn't do that because the KGB DOESN"T EXIST.
The international conspiracy by shape shifting reptilians on the other hand is a real and present danger.
This is extremely offensive. Do you realize people died?
KGFSB will get you anywhere and anytime
>cut the phone lines and seal the city
BASED old man!
FUCK Yeltsin and FUCK Gaidar. Also triple fuck the Comsomol while we are at it.
It produces way more deaths though air pollution and climate change.
*sneaks quietly onto the bus*
kek he was so based
Oh really? They not only exist, they moved into the Kremlin and run everything now.
he went proudly on the bus
Based offended user.
What the fuck is a rohnkin? I thought radiation was measured in rads?
they measure it in a dozen different ways to bamboozle us
Yes.
Losing what lol?
I'm trying to be objective while you're shilling your politics by misconstruing facts and blatantly lying.
>seal the city
Never happened.
Wrong
how many kopteks got pizza'd?
So did people legit think the reactor could not explode or was that propaganda?
>This is extremely offensive. Do you realize people died?
about 50.
the russians never understood how reactors actually work. They just copied american designs.
People didn't legit know a RBMK reactor could explode
It would take a tonn of coincidences and incompetence for something like that to happen
My estimates put it at around 400 million chest x-rays
I know Stalin stole the atom bomb, but they stole our reactors as well? What of the American RBMK reactors? Are those decommissioned?
Everybody is lying about us poor little Russkies and our KGB :'(
Here's proofs!!1
nytimes.com
and the slavs did it
Legit. And it didn't explode, the steam (or some other gas, i don't remember the name) destroyed the reactor and exposed the core.
>steal a detonator design from some american nerds
>they NEVER forget and accuse you of stealing everything you've ever invented
Well they fucked around with the safety system to turn it off, allegedly even cutting the wires.
Hard to say if it would have exploded if the system was running as intended.
If it didn't explode, how did the graphite chunks get everywhere and where did the explosion come from?
>And it didn't explode
Fuck of with your radiophobia.
where the FUCK can I get one of those?!!
Both split atoms, the difference is that in a nuclear bomb a split atom produces multiple neutrons that then proceed to destabilise and cause the splitting of more atoms that produce more neutrons that cause more splitting etc.
In a nuclear power plant a substance is used (in the control rods iirc) to absorb enough of the extra neutrons that the number of splitting atoms doesn't grow exponentially, but stays steady. A nuclear powerplant is basically a prolonged controlled nuclear explosion.
was he lasagna later?
maybe so their hair won't constantly fall on their faces/sweat won't drip from the tops of their heads into their eyes
Nuclear energy was still relatively new and the design shouldn't have been able to explode when operated properly. The problem was that they conducted experiments that the reactor couldn't handle.
It's the core that "couldn't explode", and it didn't. The core got so hot that all the water coolant turned to steam in an instant which created such an immense amount of pressure that the top of the reactor blew off however.

>nytimes
lol
Just don't have girls hair lmao.
The Cold war period was an entire shitshow of nuclear secrecy because fuck you dont look at my shit. Because the opposing nation would somehow find more ways to nuke you through leaked info.
do you pee yourself from the radiation?
This. There never was a civil nuclear explosion proper, so far all we got were overpressure/thermal explosion blasts damaging reactors. You can't have a nuclear explosion with civil nuclear fuel, but you can certainly contaminate on a colossal scale.
Comrades, how many hours left?
Its supposed to be a way for the body to purge radiation. That's why vodka gets rid of it in STALKER.
There's a distinct difference between the core exploding(which is what they said is impossible) and the water coolant superheating into steam and a gas explosion blowing the reactor top open(which is what happened)
3.7
that game sucked mingehair
The world's first nuclear power plant was built in Obninsk, USSR.
But stealing one of these bois was much more drama.
impossible
suck my dick, bitch.
can you touch the core now?
Lol they accidently short circuited that things internals when they figuring out how it worked so the russians got it back with american computers in it.
great argument for the game being good, chomo
No, you'll literally melt.
there is no core
pretty sure its slathered in concrete.
>Received fatal dose (about 1500 roentgens or 390 mC/kg), mostly to head
for sure
it killed itself
eat a chode fucker.
how the fuck have ananenko and bezpalov survived
we'll see later in the show if he lives or dies.
how do you people manage to fuck up the name every time
How does water interact with radiation? It's supposed to suppress it, right?
Can water itself become irradiated?
~8 hours or something
I pee in your face as my buddies hold you down.
>Can water itself become irradiated?
It can carry irradiated particles
That's gay. You're gay.
they weren't on site, the amount of radiation/over-period-of-time wasn't enough to give them radiation sickness and apparently not enough to give them cellular damage either so they haven't developed any cancer.
>islamophobia
>homophobia
>transphobia
My pee is warm and some comes in your mouth.
>It's supposed to suppress it, right?
It slows neutrons, there's a difference.
to a degree, depends how much water there is, needs a lot for gamma and neutron
anything can become irradiated
I've gotta admit, Pripyat (whats the difference between Pripyat and Chernobyl) seemed like a pretty nice place to live. Maybe Commie blocs aren't so bad. Can anyone confirm?
By "it didn't explode" i obviously meant nuclear explosion. The reason for that, IIRC, was the unexpected behavior of the reactor. The expectation was that the turbine will generate less and less electricity rotating in idle when the reactor is stopping. The turbine was disconnected and the reactor started to calm, but the effect of power spike in the first seconds when grafite rods were inserted (it has something to do with the pressure IIRC, or when grafite is in but the reaction stopper isnt yet) resulted in shitload of overheated steam in the reactor and the reaction going out of control, like runaway diesel. When the pressure was right, the building just popped like an overblown balloon.
Some high-ranking politician in my country just got 3.6 years in prison for corruption. Thank you /RBMK/ for making this happen!
If modern fighter planes are like Ferrari or Gallardo, dat thing was a fucking 440 Charger with a huge blower.
electrons go through, tho.
You need to drink more water.
vodka after diving actually worked
Can't wait for nuclear fusion to be figured out so we can shut down nuclear reactors and replace them with something that doesn't damage the whole world if it fucks up.
I'm confused, how many episodes are out yet? I saw Episode 3 last week thanks to an user who linked it here
no one cares. pls go
I guess that's what happens when you have to go from Communism to Capitalism overnight.

>It's supposed to suppress it, right?
It doesn't suppress it, no. Radiation is atomic particles, water just happens to be a much denser flow of atoms compared to air that it can just absorb these particles much more easily. Gamma radiation, for example, is an ionized neutron
Friendly reminder that the real minister of coal was shoveling dirt since his teenage years and wasn't the little bitch he is on the show.
>ep4 10/10 before even released

>the guy that looked directly into the core lasted a whole month
That's the most surprising thing for me.
I'm really sorry for offtopic and feeding, but these niggers (or most likely it's only one) fucking trigger me

I'm tired of life and being lonely.
your posts are tiresome and unimaginative.
9PM PST
fuck off.
yeah inside fuckin reactor
>helicopter crash
>6 months later
huh?
If you have a runaway fusion effect you could literally ignite the entire atmosphere
Power plant very slowly splits atoms to release energy. Bomb says fuck it and splits them all at once releasing a lot of energy.
>The KGB can make anything 'real' in the West.
Shut the fuck up. You're literally using people's anxiety disorders for your political bullshit.
Imagine living near Pripyat and worrying about radiation all your life for yourself
and you loved ones despite not being irradiated. There will always be the thought that "this is it" in the back of your mind every time you get a cold or the flu.
It was a huge psychological burden for many people in the area and beyond. No wonder people became paranoid about nuclear energy.
It slows the neutrons down to such a level some light water reactors can have people standing directly above the core.
6 months after the big boom.
Maybe a dumb question, but do you actually hear an explosion when you start up a reactor? Is it loud?
Born in 1927 to a poor peasant's family. Was working since he was 15 years old, worked in mines, as mining mechanic, then was mining shift chief and so on.
He should be holding graphite and wearing the little white hate.
Imagine if a woman sat on his face after that and slipped and all his skin came off haha wouldn't that be weird. And imagine if she got ass cancer afterwards and had incontinence for the rest of her life until her colon gave way and she shat herself to death haha
>Sick
>Episode is up at 3AM
I don't know if i can do it chernobros.
new ep tonight right? not skipping because of Memerial DAy?
whatever
just sleep now, you are sick, who gives a fuck
Also Shchadov advocated for open-pit mining in USSR because he wanted fewer people underground.
Name another technology that could poison the water table of an area the size of Ukraine for a century, faggot
>If you have a runaway fusion effect
nice theory, in reality we can hardly manage to get it working for more than a minute without wasting colossal amount of energy. They're making progress but man are we far from your blockbuster scenario.
Isn't the chamber made so that if anything happens to it everything shuts down? Not just because of safety systems but because the whole thing can't support itself
this
You have radiation poisoning.
why did the nurse know about radiation burns but not the doctor?
More graphite your grace
Some of the late commieblocks are pretty comfy - lots of space in the streets, lots of light, but also lots of quiet green areas and interesting futuristic architecture. Look up Slavutich, the new town build in 86-88 for Pripyat refugees. I myself like Puschino and Kolychevo district in my hometown Kolomna.
Great I'm due for a check up
Take a rest, you'll wake up to all the fresh memes and (i hope) thoughtful discussion.
So? We don't care.

Nice. Soviet art is surprisingly nice. It looks forward-thinking without being profane. I remember the Moscow metro, is it true that the red marble was taken from the Reichstag?
because HBO said so
Not a clue, everything I said was just based off what I could remember from highschool physics, I've never been around an actual reactor. You can probably find a clip of a reactor starting up on youtube though
On any Russian craigslist like avito.ru. There are lots of them sold cheap. Look for ДП-5A model, for example.
Reminder not to open suspect links.
>no we don't
Yet we do you retard, multiple cells every single day become precancerous and cancerous and our immune system handles them. Stop talking out your ass you wannabe smart-ass. Go back to finishing high school
no. that was a lie
What are you, sexist?
Regulations
soviets almost kill world how many times?
>seemed like a pretty nice place to live
It was.
>Commie blocs aren't so bad
Depends. Many cities had great urban planning and the commieblock utilitarian housing was pretty well thought-out. Problems arose from not maintaining them properly though.
what the fuck is a memorial day?
>Your cells don't mutate when they split.
Darwin would be proud
Not from Reichstag - from Reichskanzlei. The marble from the Temple of Christ the Saviour was also used.
I don't think I'll be coming to these threads anymore, that is unless you can convince me otherwise.
So do those heavily radiated victims feel pain all the way through? When Vasiliy became a ghoul, did he also feel pain? Since it deteriorates cells, don't your nerves get fucked as well?
And it wasn't maintained because after the transition to capitalism Russia was broke, correct?
Not saying capitalism is bad before people jump down my throat, just that transitioning so quickly from one system to the other is a recipe for disaster.
burgers celebrate killing kids in development countries.
go buy more ram on memorial day newfag
Maybe 5 times
>3.6 rad-bucks
Why would a sensor's maximum reading go to a number with a decimal point? Why not just 3 or 4?
What if you get a retard that runs experiments on the chamber and turns off all the safety checks? What if the chamber itself is built using substandard techniques? What if it lacks a basic containment building? What if everything is done to save time and money and the people running it are under-qualified for their positions?
I'll admit I haven't a PhD in plasma physics, but what do persume would happen if a ball of superheated gas burning at a temperature of 55,000 K came into contact with another type of gas that became plasma at 55,000 K?
No, the powerplant was in the small town of Chernobyl. Pripyat is a larger town nearby.
sovieteramuseum.com
My mom has that album, some interesting architecture designs here. Mostly from Middle Asia though.
>doot doot only 3.6 rune-gens doot doot
It might not be linear. It might be logarithmic. E.g “4” isn’t 1 more than “3” , it’s 10x more than “3”
Just rest and watch it tomorrow.
But why would it end at 3.6?
xzzzzzzzzzzzzz sci/ go
>And it wasn't maintained because after the transition to capitalism Russia was broke, correct?
Yeah mostly although that's a generalization. Some places had good manitenance throughout and post transition, a few probably also had poor municipal maintenance before it.
that was a boring post about nothing .
because the material the detector uses to measure in roentgens can only detect it as high as 3.6?
it's like asking "why is a second the duration of 9 192 631 770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the cesium 133 atom."
>The scientist and the party official being forced to team up by birthmark man

Tell me is the 4th episode available?
It's president Brezhnev.
I asked a girl I was trying to pick up in at a club in Minsk where she was from once.
She said she was from Pripyat. I was drunk and didnt make the connection at the time. I wonder if she was fucking with me or if she was serious. She seemed like she was pulling my leg.
Yeah, go watch it.
I love how board all the uniformed Soviet guards look.
It's on HBO Nordic.
Well, Pripyat is also a river, I dunno...
That was Core-chan you dumbass
why is there a fire in the factory?

she was cute but a bit older than me
Maybe she was being playful. She did invite me over to her place but I didn't go.
Tokamak reactor designs and stellarrator designs are completely closed systems. I don't see where you get the idea that several plasmas could ever meet since the whole thing is designed to only create and manipulate a single plasma.
You sound a bit like the people who were warning us about black hole creation potential when Cern was about to run their super accelerator for the first time. That prediction aged well.
make a new thread, chomos
Idk. Not a science guy. But maybe if the thing works by measuring the amount of radiation hitting a sensor, the sensor is too smal/narrow to show any more particles than whatever 3.6 is
>Not a science guy.
Well there's a fucking understatement, isn't it?
WHAT'S MAKES A DIRTY NUCLEAR EXPLOSION, IRRADIATS PART OF THE EUROPE, KILLS TENS OF PEOPLE, CRIPPLES TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, DISSOLUTES THE USSR AND EXPLODES THE NUCLEAR REACTOR?

I'm not saying "two types of plasma could meet" you fucking idiot. I'm saying if a plasma that burns at 55,000 K came into contact with a gas that turns into plasma at 55,000 K, what would happen?
No you can't

Nah the control rods are used to stop the reaction. The reaction is what heats the surrounding area and they use the heat to create steam to generate the turbines.
