First one is best obviously and shouldn't have gone into action blockbuster territory afterwards no doubt if not for the sequels it'd be considered the best adaptation of a book ever

Isn't the book overwritten? That's why Rambo barely speaks in the film because his lines were so terrible.

Before Stallone got hooked on the 'roids, it was actually a pretty introspective film for the time.
They could have contrasted the reality of the post Vietnam era with that of the lingering Middle Eastern wars America is involved in now....but nah.
Hell, Rambo III took place in Afghanistan and was dedicated in the credits to the Mujaheddin.
There is a good script there somewhere but it would piss off too many Ameridumbs who ride their scooters to Walmart.

It's not a contrast, our military is the way it is BECAUSE of Vietnam. The 70s were not kind to the US Military, to the point where the USSR would've slapped our shit back to the stone age if things popped off. Things like the GI bill, enlistment incentives and bonuses, ending the draft, etc. were direct results of the brass looking at the piss poor shape of our military forces immediately following the Vietnam war.

The book actually fleshes out Teasle. The dialogue is solid,and there's a fair bit of solid character drama. The climax does get a bit metaphysical though. It's an excellent thriller novel by David Morrell.

First is a legit Action-drama, 4 is gory fun with some social commentary, the other 2 are pretty much action-schlock but watchable if you like muscular 80s men shooting stuff.
