I think the point of the journalism plot line was to show how it was becoming a dying profession and, in a sense, a lost art. However, it doesn't really address the most cancerous symptom which is progressive politics being shoehorned into every single fucking article. This is more of a result of Web 2.0 bullshit and I guess David Simon wasn't really able to anticipate just how drastically news reporting would change with the adoption of smartphones etc. I get that Yellow Journalism was always a thing, but what we're experiencing now is something entirely new.
