She is more of an anti-hero in the first few seasons to the middle.
It's not enough to sell the idea she turns genocidal. If she is a ruthless conqueror without mercy in season 6 and 7, maybe. The thing is most of her conquest is solved relatively 'bloodless' or her victims are just assholes or peoples we don't give a shit about. If we get to see her burning cities in earlier seasons or being more ruthless as the story goes the evil Dany twist could work.

As it is, I think they should just drop the evil Dany arc and war against Cersei. Just have the Night King march to KL, burn-freezing everyone forcing Cersei & Euron to come into conflict again with Jon & co. Resolve it all with the final battle in the trident.

I honestly still don't get the ending. Was it really GRRM's planned ending or is it just D&D's original? We will probably never know until the final novel is finished (lol). But if they actually go for an original ending route, is that seriously the best they can come up with? Like seriously, why? Why did they choose to retcon and not paying 8 years worth of build up. Even a normie, cheesy ending of Jon winning the throne beating the white walkers and bringing peace and stability to the realm would be more satisfying. It took Britain 50 years to rebuild London after the great fire in the 1600s. The fact that backward-ass Westeros rebuilt King's Landing, and specially the Red Keep, in seemingly less than a year (no way they kept Jon a prisoner for that long before exiling him) is baffling.

If Bran is some sort of wise philosopher king thanks to absorbing all the wisdom of previous kings, I could understand. And even then, it's still going to be an issue of how convincing everyone that some random Stark boy that everyone thought is dead, but actually crippled could be a good king. Peoples keep saying that maybe King Bran is the final big twist, but the more I think about it (which isn't hard to begin with), it's just fucking unlikely.

Most likely the final big twist is Jon killing Dany to fulfill the prophecy or Drogon destroying the Iron Throne. No idea who will end up king or queen by the end of the story.
