The character of Daenerys Targaryen, a proto-communist charismatic authoritarian leader armed with weapons of mass destruction, metamorphoses into a mass-murdering megalomaniac and kills a million people in the process. The ideology of a "greater good" guides her to make immense sacrifices of human life in the service of her cause, as it did with Stalin, Pol Pot, and Castro. As a warning against the authoritarian tendencies of modern socialist leaders, it could not be more relevant or poignant.

Yet many criticized this development as rushed-- and therein lies the hidden brainwashing of the elites. I myself was quite nearly tricked by this finale, viewing this plot thread as a libertarian polemic against power-hungry people seizing the reins of government. Yet in crafting this twist, the elite puppet masters behind Game of Thrones managed their most impressive piece of social engineering since Avengers: Infinity War: They managed to make millions of audience members criticize the transformation of Daenerys into a villain, making the process appear unconvincing. This maternalistic authoritarian, whose every action is motivated by a deep-seated desire to have a loving population of weak subjects wholly indebted to her, is now distanced from the genocidal maniac she transforms into. This character arc is sloppy and messy because it is deliberately sloppy and messy; it is meant to make unthinking viewers question how a loving, caring leader concerned only with the "greater good" could possibly morph into the killer Daenerys becomes. The viewer emerges from this season confused and unsatisfied, and a seed is planted in his mind-- the seed of doubt.
