Music is the one art form you need no prior knowledge or education to enjoy
Film is the combination of literature, sound, visual, and performance art. It should be the highest form of art. However, it also lends itself to commodification, and has been ruined by those who do not see it as an art, and instead a product.
That said, to say that film is a low form of art because of capeshit and other such trash is like saying music is low art because of top40 pop or literature is low art because of romance novels and other schlock. Unfortunately film has been dominated by its worst for a long time, and the average person does not realize what film can be.
