She's a strange example of a character that is a "mary sue" but is also hugely incompetent and never actually wins.

That video does make some decent points, but it makes a lot of faulty assumptions and has a massive nostalgia bias towards ATLA.

Narrative wise, the show is much different in what kind of story it is, what it tries to do, and acknowledges that it's target audience has indeed gotten older.

Is it perfect? Definitely not. But shitting on TLOK is more indicative of being a whiny manchild who is angry that something isn't exactly the way he expected it to be (And to demand that it's exactly the way it's predecessor was)

(Born as demigod with huge tits) and ends up genuinely caring about becoming better at what she is supposed to do, reflecting on herself, and worries about the big questions in life that matter.

That's what the show tried to do however flawed it was, but it should be acknowledged for attempting it. Also because many of those things ended up being pretty good. How they handled the red lotus was praiseworthy in both content and execution. And there is no denying that it was extremely ambitious for any YA tv-show.

The series starts out with her being bullheaded as shit and having no understanding of spirituality whatsoever. That's nice.
But then she learns, in a (shitty) way, when she loses her bending powers to Amon.

Although she remains rash and bullheaded after that, and the show seems to forget that it's a bad trait to have.
Until she much much later meets Toph and very suddenly, for not so well-explained reasons, learns to hold back, put a lid on her temper and appreciate peace and shit.

It's pretty terribly handled, but her flaws and ensuing "arcs" ARE there.
