There's like 50 of those novels are some of them contradict eachother lore-wise. Keep in mind they were essentially comissioned to re-do the shitty old lore of the imperium. Honestly you can get most of the info of wikis which often shamelessly rip whole paragraphs of the codices or novels and paste them into articles.

I don't really know anyone who reads and plays. Most players just absorb their factions' lore and spends their time painting.
