hard to belive that guy is a merchant. his nose must have been broken at early age in a fight

Sir Gary Oldman when?

Most overrated actor of all time.

Your statement implies he's a bad actor, and he's definitely not.

This. Oldman is much better by far.

Christian Bale perhaps, maybe even Brad Pitt.
I'd say Brad Pitt, i haven't seen enough of Lewis's work

No it doesn't, you non English speaking mong.

>muh meme jahmaican accant mon babylon

Overrated means that he was praised while he didn't deserve it. Brie Larson is overrated, not him.

yeah, i'm thinking DDL is a hack desu. fuck public consensus and fuck the oscars. The truly great leading men are able to establish their unique persona within a role. DDL takes his method meme to such an extreme that he ceases to be an actor, he's just a mannequin; a person that becomes the role. That's not a good thing; thats the flat out post-modern nightmare that Jameson was talking about 3 decades ago. The death of "starpower" and the rise of a generation of actors who only knew how to interpret the text; they forgot how to be authors

Thats what an actor is. You may think putting on multiple hats makes you better, but it really just makes you worse at each one. By your logic, jerry lewis is the best because he was director, actor, comedian, screenwriter. He would do multiple scenes completely solo and take a global audience to hysterics with no support or even language.

This, pretty much.

i unironically think tommy lee jones is a better actor than javier bardem, and i think no country for old men is a perfect showcase of the death of the modern actor and the rise of the postmodern actor. bardem becomes whatever the script requires; jones instills each role with his essence. the former is soulless, the later has soul. i also think the coen brothers casted these 2 on purpose for much the same reason. they wanted to capture the death of an outmoded style of acting, and deliver it through mcarthy's neowestern nightmare

My personal favourite anyway.

Tim Roth
(pic from Made In Britain, highly recommend btw)

not that guy, but overrated means something is praised a disproportionate amount to what they deserve, it's not a binary thing you know

>jones instills each role with his essence
So does Nicholas Cage, what's your opinion of him?

Belongs in the discussion at the very least

Gena Rowlands or Spencer Tracy. Probably unknown to most of you when looking at the other mentions here.

Good in Wolf Hall.

Probably the only one here who has a perfect filmography

Wrong!

This. Cage will stand the test of time, turn on any program and there's an 80% chance it's a movie with him in it.

Fifth Element just does it for me.

BASED

The ones that isn't cheap paychecks to pay the bills are all glorious. He has some flaws sometimes but then again he was always more of a rough actor with background in indy-movies at the beginning.

I just love the Riddick films.
