They really weren't, but the way they were staged and televised was radically different. He got the Nazi equivalent of Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay to organize them, with lots of pomp and drama. Imagine this speech from Huey Long but instead of a static, by the books camera it was filmed like it was a scene from a Hollywood thriller.
