no it is turn based, atb is turned based based on character speed rather than flat you then me back and forth. also the story is incredibly confusing because most of it isn't included in the game itself, it was originally a trilogy of games that shared a mythology which fell apart because vs13 took so long they made it 15. its a game where you need to read a wiki after playing the game because half the plot was released as a book afterwards
