What films are you looking forward the most? The Lighthouse seems great so that's the one i'm looking forward the most. Also Parasite, Pain and Glory and Hidden Life. Also why did Dardennes win another prize? When will the social realism meme end?

>Palme d’Or: “Parasite,” Bong Joon-ho
Skeptical, he hasn't made a truly great movie since his sophomore.

>Best Director: Kantemir Balagov, “Beanpole”
That guy was born in 1991, let that sink in

Bong Joon-ho is now a recipient of the same award that was once given to Michael Moore.

>That guy was born in 1991, let that sink in
He also won fipresci in 2017 and in 2018 he was on UCR jury.

I was born in 1994

>What films are you looking forward the most?
the Ira Sachs one

Why? That one seems like minor film.

Bump

WHEN THE FUCK CAN WE EVEN WATCH THESE FILMS? THEY TAKE MONTHS TO COME OUT, STOP REMINDING ME REEE

Cry more.

I'm pretty sad too user
This year's such a good one

Yes based on reviews this is the best cannes in years, last year was pretty good too.

>genre trash
>good
Film is dead.

robert eggers a cute

a CUTE!

>genre films can't be good
Sure thing buddy.

What's the difference between Palme d'Or, Grand Prix and Jury Prize? That sounds like the same fucking thing

>Actor: Antonio Banderas, “Pain and Glory”
BASED

I'M THINKING HE'S BACK

SAW ZORRO 1 RANDOMLY THE OTHER DAY, SO FUCKING GOOD

Banderas is always good in Almodovar's films.

HES GOOD IN EVERYTHING, HIS HOLLYWOOD SHIT IS MORE ENJOYABLE

ASSASSINS MADE HIS CAREER

THAT ROBOT MOVIE WAS PRETTY CRAP THOUGH

No Xavier Dolan?

Thank god desu. His films got some pretty bad reviews at some polls.

It was the Dardennes time to make a poorly received kino and get best director.

Where can we watch your film?

Right on my ass, after you kiss it.

Eh their social realism style is nothing special. I don't understand why something like that won the best director. It's as if Loach won it.

Still can’t figure out why the lighthouse wasn’t included in competition when it is so genre heavy anyway, would love to know the internal communications that went on around that film

It’s great, will get memed to death when it comes out though. One possible issue I see is that I think all the screenings so far have had English subtitles because of the set up in Cannes - reaction might be a lot more muted when people can’t figure out what the heck Dafoe is saying and the discussion might veer that way

Anyway I’m getting preemptively angry now about both pattinson and dafoe not winning both acting oscars in 2020

based Bong

It’s basically first second and third

Have you seen it?

Yes just finished up my 3 days in Cannes

That was the highlight for me (I like genre movies generally, wasn’t huge on the vvitch thought it was p good but not great). Other highlights that I saw were Bacurau and Wild Goose Lake

How would you rate it? How is the cinematography in The Lighthouse, i read somewhere that the beginning is too dark like they didn't properly light the set, is that true? How are the performances? Also how would you rate other films you have seen?

It’s one of my favourite things I’ve ever seen I would say
I didn’t notice any issues with the lighting, thought it looked wonderful throughout. Dafoe and Pattinson are both incredible, all time top movie freakout performances from both, deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Nicholson in the shining and possession subway scene etc

In addition to previously mentioned 3 that I loved, Malick, Il Traditore, Portrait of lady on fire, Ang Hupa, The Whistlers all really great, Little Joe, Zombi Child and Oh Mercy were all fine but I didn’t see anything in them to justify the competition slot (or good reviews in zombi childs case)

The Lighthouse sounds fantastic, i read that it's funny and more of psychological thriller than horror. Really looking forward to it.

Malick, Diaz, Sciamma, Porumboiu and Bellocchio all sound good, so i'm excited about them. Shame that you didn't like Zombi Child that much, Bonello is pretty interesting director so i will see that. Oh Mercy seems like an episode of CSI and i dislike Desplechin's later films so i will probably not bother with that.

Yeah there’s a lot of laughs in it, and it’s more about people losing their minds than traditional horror

God damn it. Is there any way to know when this film will release to the general public in theaters or otherwise?

Fantastic. I hope that based Pattinson and Dafoe can get some awards for it.
In the fall.

wow, what a great jury
