Varan. I love classic giant dinosaur kaiju, but Varan manages to also be unique on top of that. The village destruction scene is his original movie is absolute kino and his theme song kicks ass. Him and Anguirus not being in GMK is my biggest problem with that film (it’s still my third favorite entry in the series.)

I enjoyed it. Honestly I think edwards does good work and it's a shame what happened with rogue one and disney. The tone in king of the monsters is definitely different and the movie is way more in your face blockbuster action, but godzilla 2014 was a good origin story

It’s fast paced for sure. If there’s one gripe I had it’s that the final battle drags a bit.

I'd say it's middle tier. The first quarter of the movie, basically until Cranston's death, was solid build-up and good acting overall. Then the movie slowly dips down, peaks with Godzilla showing up, blue balls us several times before the last ten minutes, which are also pretty good. The rest of the movie sinks, not to the lowest of lows but definitely drags. Also, I'm okay with Godzilla having smaller screentime if it's used properly throughout a movie, but the MUTOs were more important in the movie than Godzilla was, and the pacing was all over the place. If they'd kept Cranston through the movie, cut the running time down for pacing, and made Godzilla the focus instead of the MUTOs, I'd consider it a great Godzilla movie, but as it stands it's pretty average compared to some others. Neither shit, nor amazing, though I'm expecting KotM to be top tier.

Also, not into the Shin vs Legendary shit. I just want more Godzilla, whoever makes it, but I dig the Monsterverse as it is.
