I met Shinkai at a animation festival back when he was promoting Voices from a distant star and being hailed as the next Miyazaki. At the Q&A I asked him if he can actually animate anything (guy is good at making cg backgrounds that's it)..he got all defensive. His films are bland shit.

American animation is digital too. Most live action is digital. Why does anime always get singled out for this? Nobody is going to go back to cel animation, the advantages of digital are overwhelming.

He isn't a hack and doesn't make the same movie over and over again, and Miyazaki has had Hisaishi as his composer since Nausicaa. Oshii had had Kenji Kawai as his composers since at least the early 90s.
