I know that we think some actors are better than others.. but I submit those actors just have more raw charisma and imagination. Acting, in itself isn't really a thing. And even if it is a skill you can hone based off old formats - it's not hard. It's fun as fuck.
Why do they always talk about "craft" and mastering their "craft". It's not like they are learning how to build an engine or nuclear science?
There are actors who work hard in their jobs. Usually actors in action movies who also do the action themselves (usually not the falling from buildings or hit by a car stuff, these do the stuntmen cause insurance). They train months for specific choreographed scenes, Keanu Reeves for example spent 10 hours every day practicing with the stunt team for 6 months in preparation for every John Wick movie which is why all the scenes look so fluid, every single movement was trained until it was perfect.
Ironically, all the "critics darling" genres like drama are the laziest movies for actors which is why many like to do them more. Action movies are the only ones where real hard work is involved.

Yeah I respect Tom Cruise and such. But those guys are just doing guy stuff and still just having fun. They get paid to get in shape, learn to fight, learn to ride horse, shoot shit.
It's a man's wet dream and not a job.
Juan Watson
It's not manual labour or nuclear scientist hard, but long filming schedules, having to pretend to be someone else on cue, and having to deal with everything else in the industry is not easy
Brody Rivera
I imagine it's a job that can be tiring if you're working 14 hours a day or whatever, but if you've made it big, stop bitching cause you are paid extremely well, get to go to all these cool parties, events, etc.
Alexander Howard
Which would suck if the rewards weren't as great as they are. You'd gladly get on with it if you had a nice, fat paycheck and could take a little bit of time after the shoot to relax and enjoy yourself.
Jaxon Brown
dealing with idiots in an office job isn't easy. It's not that hard either and you don't get paid millions.
Asher Watson
This
Neck up cynicism tho is not a talent and preachy sitcom bullshit with no physicality is bottom barrel 'talent'
Leo Sullivan
If it's so easy do it, incels.
Kayden Wood
>being proud of your craft /= bitching
Michael Nelson
Yes. But besides historical pieces who expect actors to study their characters like they would write a phd thesis about him, they are the movies who require the most work.
you have to have connections. You can't just do anything faggot.
Ryder Roberts
talking outta my arse here but my theory is that you eirher make millions or make cents, the pressure they feel comes from making decent living out of acting or else you'd end up like that fat bitch from hairspray
Angel Morgan
are you 'tarded? most of the actors are broke as fuck.
the few that made it on their own worked hard as fuck to get where they are, and yes that includes dick sucking.
Thomas Ramirez
My take is you can't really bitch about if if you've made it big considering the great rewards you get for your work but it's hard to start off with given all the competition, poor pay (that's why a disproportionately high number of UK ones went to public schools or had well to do families, as they can support their them when they start out acting), etc. Even Henry Cavill, who incels will scream had the easiest time in the world cause of his looks, spent quite a few years of having poor luck and would spent his time in England doing menial shit like bar work so save up so he could spend a few months in LA do auditions. Though the gamble is definitely more risky the less handsome/beautiful you are.
Jackson Gutierrez
Read . I elaborate a bit more on my take.
Charles Taylor
This. It's a boys club. That's why we have to destroy the patriarchal structure that do nepotism hire.
>replace patriarchal with liberal if you are so inclined
REEEEEEEEE I HAVE NO AGENCY I AM A MILLENIAL LE WRONG GENERATION
I imagine it's not as binary as that. Some probably make decent, comfortable livings as actors without making it big. Weren't Cumberbatch's parents both actors who had a comfortable income but also never became massive?
Elijah Nguyen
What connections did Al Pacino or Gary Oldman have?
Noah Carter
Have sex
Ian Wood
>dude only my beloved Keanu works! Embarrassing.
Ian Reyes
I have no idea what Gary Oldman's background is but look up James McAvoy talking about the class ceiling. It may not be connections per say but it's a definite advantage if you go to public schools in the UK and have a decently wealthy family.
Jose Smith
>user uses Keanu as an example >you sperg out and act like he's saying it's only Keanu Based retard
Jason Howard
Post that one tweet where a porn actress was complaining her anal scene was hard and people shouldn't pirate it becose of that.
James Gutierrez
I'd let them bitch, these guys live in anxiety that they won't be able to find any good work the next day because studios don't give a fuck about anybody longevity and stable work unless they're pen pushers.
James Roberts
great acting is fucking hard
Jose White
well no fucking shit it's an advantage to have a wealthy family. That goes for everything in life, not just acting.
Camden Turner
Have you not ever met and type of "artist"? They are all up their own asses about how brilliant they are. Part of it is just general delusion, but part of it is also self-interest. It benefits them to elevate what they do to some lofty level. Art only has value when it is perceived as something rare that few can produce.
They also all feed off the egotistical self-delusion of their colleagues. They all just have conversations with each other about their craft.
Anthony Myers
Nah, I say its mostly the connections followed by financial support from rich parents. I mean look at that famous comedy club in Oxford/Cambridge (I forget which one it is) and like half of British comedians are former members. Or that list on IMDB about "nepotism" with pretty much every famous actor on there (all sons/daughters of actors/cinematographers/directors/writers etc)
James Scott
>They all just have conversations with each other about their craft.
Not even for $100,000? Keeping in mind you'll have dieticians, trainers etc to help you achieve that body
Ryan Jones
I admire the dedication but no. Purposefuly destroying your body for money (or art) is one if my lines I don't want to cross. If you asked me if I'd do it for the experience of being part of that movie crew doing big movie, that would be much harder to answer.
Wyatt Edwards
Not an engineer, and I partially understand art. For four years I dated a hipster girl who was a graphic designer with tons of artist friends, so I definitely dipped my toes in that world enough to see how delusional and egotistical a lot of artists are.
Ryan Phillips
Keanu is a god in human form.
Sebastian Hill
>They all just have conversations with each other about their craft. Wow, people doing the same job talking about the work they do, how narcissistic.
Elijah Hughes
he didn't destroy his body. he gained it all back after the shoot.
that movie sucked btw
Luis Cruz
that picture of all her “hey _____, it’s Nikki from Hairspray” tweets makes me really sad.
Tyler Hill
Then take Tom Cruise, that's even more extreme, he prepared TWO YEARS for Last Samurai, he learned Japanese language and Kendo and studied Japanese history.
Cameron Morgan
I would be I'm that skinny to begin with
Anthony Flores
Maybe you can understand that there's a subtle difference between people coworkers commiserating about their jobs and people in the same industry sucking each other off about how brilliant they are and that their job is way more special than anything else.
Chase Ross
have sex, gay sex since it's more fun
Gavin Reed
Yeah, not having talent sucks.
Anthony Stewart
Actors work harder than blue collar jobs. They are doing tons of hours of research and insightful introspection on every line they deliver, and work closely with the director to bring the character to life.
Jason Diaz
But assuming they make it big, they get massive, massive rewards for their work, so an actor that has made it shouldn't really moan. Giving us insights into the job, work, research, craft, etc. is fine though.
Easton Murphy
They are doing it for glory and Fame too. Again it's a mindset and need to show your dedication. Not any craft. Losing weight is just numbers.
Daniel Barnes
actors like robert de niro have easy job
but people like nikki blonsky are basically living in hell. they had that 15 minutes of fame....and now it's over. forever
Benjamin Harris
that's just his narcissism and intensity though. It has nothing to do with his ability to act. He's just crazy dedicated.
