Keep in mind that that is supposed to be made by hand. Forget that the cuirass is too long and goes down to the waist. Think about how the smith would have to make it. They'd have to make a cuirass the regular way, then use some kind of repoussé technique to hammer all the useless ugly, wrinkles into the armour and then planish the whole thing. How would you even planish the thing? You can't get a planishing hammer into those wrinkles. The whole thing would be covered in hammering marks and not look smooth at all.

And poking isn't the only thing that battlefield weapons do; they also slash and crush, both of which padded armor is quite helpful at defending against.

The first season is meant to be based on the short stories from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny.

There are some legit good options in there like The Witcher (Geralt vs the Striga, the intro video to the first game), A Grain of Truth (Beauty and the Beast, sorta), The Lesser Evil (could be made into a two-part ep and potential kino if they contrast how Geralt tries to save everyone with the slaughter they all see), Edge of the World (genocide allegory done right), Bounds of Reason (DRAGON HUNTING, MOTHERFUCKERS), Eternal Fire (not all about killing monsters), and A Little Sacrifice (The Little Mermaid, more or less).

Important eps plot-wise but potentially a bit boring would be Question of Price, Last Wish, and Shard of Ice. Sword of Destiny and Something More to round out the season, finish establishing the world, and then move on to the novels.

There is no such thing as "heavy plate". It's all just "plate". The armor the guy in the video is wearing is a full set of plated armor, which is why it's called "full plate". This is absolutely the same shit knights wore into battle, the only difference being he's not wearing a helmet, and MAYBE he's not wearing a gambeson underneath. Other than that, that's the same exact shit a knight from the 1500's would be wearing; no difference.

A particularly heavy set of plate armor would still be called "full plate". A particularly light set of armor would still be called "full plate". There was usually no distinction between heavy and light, as there was no such thing as "standard" armor. You commissioned armor from the smith based on what you wanted, and then he made it for you. I'm sure some big motherfuckers commissioned extra large and thick pieces of armor, but for the most part, the armor the guy is wearing in the video is perfectly adequate for deflecting arrows, blows, and even cushioning hits from anti-armor maces and hammers.

Even if the armor seems light, altogether it might weigh around 40-80lbs, which, ironically, sounds heavy, but when distributed evenly all across the body, is not so difficult to maneuver in. I mean, modern day plates used by US Marines weigh something like 30-40 pounds, yet they run around in it for 13-20 miles.

Steel is durable as fuck, and there is very, very, VERY little chance you can simply stab your way through plate. In order to penetrate steel plate with a blade, you'd both need to be riding towards each other at 30 miles per hour, with a very heavy spear or lance aimed directly at his heart, and steady aim. In a real life scenario, something like that would be incredibly rare, and I've yet to read of anyone stabbing through plate like that, though it IS possible in theory.

I'm pretty sure bodkins in an english longbow could penetrate chainmail though.

The main strengths of the longbow were that it was faster and had more stopping power. It didn’t kill through plate unless it hit a slit, but it still hurt and could even knock a knight off his horse.
At Agincourt, the longbows didn’t kill that many French knights, but it did wear them down enough that, due to them charging repeatedly through mud, the English knights could kill them more easily. The archers also helped out by knifing anyone that went down, or tripping them up when they could.

Leather is literally fucking worthless though, and is one of those big "hollywood" misconceptions.

Yeah, leather armor existed, but it was boiled leather and then processed so that it would become hard as fuck, like wood. As you can imagine, it wasn't very popular. It wasn't the soft, pliable leather armor you're thinking about that comes from games and movies either. Soft leather armor is fucking useless, as it can be easily cut and offers worthless protection against blades while being expensive as fuck, whereas a gambeson made of linen or wool offers surprisingly decent protection against bladed weapons and is cheap as fuck to make.

Gambesons and padded jackets are the real MVP in the medieval armor world. Leather armor is an impostor.

You could do that, but it wouldn't be to offer any sort of meaningful protection against weaponry, beside the bare minimum. If you DID do that, it was probably just for looks, or for keeping the shield from chafing your arm too much.

Sometimes, people dangled strips of cloth or leather from their shields as a sort of curtain against arrows, as seen in pic related. This is one of the few examples of leather being used in a functional manner (although the effectiveness of this technique heavily relied on the enemy's bow and arrow type, and was more often something like linen than leather)
