Do you not know what mechanical engineering is? It doesn’t include research as in depth that a physicist or chemist would do. Those are scientists. Engineers just punch in numbers to build what they want to build.

“Engineering” is not the same thing as “science”, yes, but “engineers” can be “scientists” as engineers can perform scientific experiments.
