Sadly, since then - Refn has believed his own hype and all his subsequent films were increasingly up its own ass. The style is still good but each film is more incoherent than the last.

I don't know how you could possibly put The Neon Demon below Valhalla Rising.
I can sort of understand with OGF because the surrealism combined with the bad dialogue can easily turn people off. But VR falls short if only for that fucking boat scene. I've never seen anyone defend it, only claim that it's not "that" bad.
