I've heard the ending is awful but is it worth a watch? I've had people tell me the first two seasons are pretty good

Season 3 kinda sucks, the drama with Miguel is horribly uninteresting and whoever played Miguel was a terrible actor. You can feel the absence of Doakes and the relationship with Rita is becoming confused since Lila is gone.

Somehow they really got the show back on track in season 4, but it really went to shit after that, they even had to do an episode in season 6 to bring back some of the season 4 shine.

Season 4 has a good villain but the writing is so fucking contrived they literally had to magically handwave most of it in season 5

first two seasons are pretty good, three is a bit of a dip, four is back up to it's best and then it falls off a cliff. if you watch it stop after four.

Avoided a crazy one.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I really liked the season with Lumen (5?). That last scene was pure unadultered kino.

Season 1 is the only really good one. 2 and 3 are meh, 4 gets props for Lithgow's strong performance. Anything beyond 4 is a mad cavalcade of stupid and awful, although entertaining at times.

I broke it up over text, then she showed up at my house at midnight the next night saying we needed to talk about the bullshit I was pulling. Just ignored her til she calmed down and left.

It's fun for the first few seasons, then jumps the shark, then becomes so terrible it's actually kinda entertaining.

I only watch it for hottest woman in hollywood, Julie Benz.

Season 1 is decent
Season 2 is good but feels like it happens too early
Season 3 is confusing and awkward
Season 4 has an amazing villain and dexter actually develops a bit as a human
It goes downhill from there, each season has a cool concept but ultimately goes to shit until the clusterfuck of a final season

Watch season 1. Stop there. Pretend it ends. I know, i know. By the end of season 1 the show is full of potential and it looks like they can go the distance. They can´t. They didn´t.

That was the whole problem with Dexter, it was too high concept and relied on that to carry things. They did almost everything they could with it in the first two seasons, were already running on fumes in season 3, and only managed to bring it back up in 4 because Lithgow was so incredible in his role.

Season 3 wasn't really high concept, they j7st couldn't decide if they wanted dexter to have a new father figure, be a father figure to someone or to just have a fried he could be on equal terms with so we just got a character that was a poor mishmash of all 3.
The whole high concept thing would have been fine too if the paced and ordered it better, him finding hid brother and learning his past should have been halfway through the show and probably tied into that psychologist story and people finding all his shit should have been saved for the final season and could have led to a better ending than what we got.

One of the most unique shows out there. S1 is a must watch, everything from that is goes downhill.

people will say to stop watching after season 4 but it's impossible since it ends with a cliffhanger with Dexter's wife Rita getting killed by the Trinity Killer.

Stop after theseason with Trinity. Honestly one of the best seasons (and certainly best finales) in television history. How Lithgow didn't get an Emmy for that shit is baffling.
