he hated him and wanted him dead but you’re right, this sudden quest to kill the dude was absolutely ass retarded. this being the same character that prioritized survival and dipped out of KL during the battle. he never once showed any inclination of having a desire to suicide in order to kill the mountain. the writing was very abrasive and abrupt, much like the rest of the season. people saying “danyfags triggered” is a false flag, the writing was shit and abrupt across the board, the problem is not necessarily the plot

It didn’t even matter to the characters though, much less the story. If Jamie had died to Euron his life was maybe 5 minutes shorter. If the Hound didn’t sacrifice himself to take out his brother, someone else (probably the dragon who just killed a million other people including Cercei) would have. Their fight didn’t even serve the purpose of distracting the Mountain so someone else could get to Cercei. It was completely pointless.

cleganebowl wasn't hyped for 8 seasons, it was a joke that ended up being just one of the several pointless fan-services in S8 like Briennd sleeping with Jamie, Bron on the small council etc

well the original mountain also thought he could get more money by being in the hobbit and ended up being replaced by a fully cgi animated model.

Another example of this is Arya soloing the Night King. Nothing any of the other characters did, including coming back from the dead, made any difference in hindsight. It's fascinatingly bad writing for a show this size.
