First season was some of the best TV there is. Second season fell flat for me. I just didn't believe the storyline that much. No one learned anything from season one.

The second season is better than the first. The reason as to why no lesson was learned in the end is because of Kreese trying to sabotage Johnny's work. Not to mention that Daniel doesnt really care about any of his pupils and only uses them as a mean to get one over Johnny.
Johnny did try to find balance and honorable but because of this Miguel ended up in life danger.
The show is about the conflict of two ideologies : Attack and Defense.

By the end of season 2 Daniel looked up some stuff about Okinawa so maybe.

In the end of season 2 it is said again that he just wants his students to be better. He is just a tough veteran. It’s about taking on all comers and staying on top. Miyagi Do is also a good philosophy in that it seeks first and foremost not to fight. Fighting is a last resort. Which is also a good way to win if done correctly. Basically if you mix Cobra Kai And Miyagi Do, you get Sun Tsu.

The choreography in season 2 is way too advanced and over the top and makes this whole show look super unrealistic. The magic with Karate kid is that Daniel Larusso made it look believable. All this kicks and punches to the face yet no one got knocked out?

The show theme differs vastly from the films in that it’s taking the anime route. Lots of the plot elements would have been thematically out of place in the original movie. This is a new take that explores the gray areas and at the same time injected camp in order to not take itself too seriously. It’s why the show doesn’t come off as try-hard and it works.

The movies had grey areas which the series build on, Johnny is not bad it's his teacher, Miyagis refusal to fight until the village itself is at stake etc

The choreography is a bit too much but casuals love it.
Also the stunt coordinator worked on MCU which is the most surprising thing of all. How did youtube manage to gather all this talents for peanuts.

Daniel's wife is the most relatable character on the show, since she's the only one who sees how silly it is that Daniel and Johnny take karate so seriously. Also, how did Daniel manage to cash in so hard on his win at a local tournament in the 80s? He won "All Valley," so he didn't win a national championship; hell, he didn't even win an LA county one, just a small tournament in the valley.

He won as an independent contestant who had never entered a tournament before and had been doing karate for a few months. Not only that but he won while injured against the most prestigious school in the area. It would probably be a pretty popular story, all over the newspapers and stuff as it was shown in the first season.

Throughout the whole time I just thought ah, I wish life were this simple, but the problems parents (and their kids) have are much more nuanced, there aren't clear stereotypes like in this show. Because it only deals with stereotypes the ideas (I'm sure there are some lessons in here) can easily be misapplied, especially when audience likes to identify with the characters. It's entertaining, but not interesting enough

The fights in season 2 were just way too over the top it destroyed all immersion.
