hopefuly it flops

The anatomy of that worm is nonsensical. If it is that hollow of a tube how does it support its own weight and the weight of tonnes of sand

she suck me like a vacuum through my bronxer short

why did you spell tons that way?

Also how do they get that big? Just one would need to feed on an insane amount of biomass

They actually never talk about how they get that big or exactly what they eat in the books. It is a huge mystery the whole biochemistry of them is and how they work.

Sand stuff, or sand related stuff. They fucking die if they touch water, so their biochemistry definitely works different than that of creatures known to man. Ultimately one doesn't need to know how they came to be. Sandworms are way more about what to do with them.

So essentially its "turn your brain off"? I mean from what I've read on the lore Herbert at least goes as far to partially explain their life cycle and relation to the spice, he could at least have given some handwaving bullshit on what they eat.

What really bugs me with them is just how insanely huge they are. Herbert could have made them still terrifyingly large without being that ridiculous. Like, say the length of 5 humpback whales from head to tail. I'd accept that.

incel

Definitely a virgin in his early 20s or late teens.

Have sex

they don't even explain it in one of the 50 following books? what a ripoff

samefag

for what? we already have MCU

damn...

Attached: Untitled.jpg (545x461, 72K)

I haven't read all of them but of the 8 that I have no they don't. You have to kind of ignore some of the stuff they do scientifically and just accept it for the sake of it being science fiction. For example later in the series they make genetic clones of people and are able to bring their memories back. You are even able to bring their memories back up until the point where you take the DNA so using the same DNA taken at two different times from the same person you can end up with 2 clones with a different set of memories. Its stupid but you need to accept it for the series

what was duke Leto's tax policy? hmm?

Attached: 1489259192593.jpg (619x386, 30K)

this is literally a plot point

They are going to fill it with niggers, pakis, kikes, arabs, gooks, faggots, trannies, dykes, current politics, drumphf, feminism and every other kind of sick diseased rubbish that they put in everything else.
It can fuck off. The chances of it being good and faithful and pure are 1 in a hundred thousand.

because he's not an illiterate faggot

it's likely a silicon based lifeform, so it eats silicon instead of carbon, use your head.
biomass just means carbon, and carbon is just what life on this planet is made from

they eat sand.

the books included economy, read them

They produce melange aka. "the spice", which gives people long life and sometimes psionic abilities, as well as creating the navigators which are responsible for space travel. They eat sand and crust, and are really just living energy reactors. They expel lightning fucking everywhere when they're near the surface.

Meh, I'm willing to deal to deal with cool concepts like that cloning memory stuff even if it's impossible. Some ideas are worth that. And as long the writer sticks to some semblance of a consistent rule system, which Herbert clearly does.

you're right, there should have been at least 7 chapters dedicated to explaining the sand worms tax policy.

The sand worms literally produce spice that lets you fuck with space and time they are basically sci fi magic.

If they shoot lightning everywhere, how do people ride them?

I want a Bene Gesserit to step on my balls and have sex with me

if it means more music like youtube.com/watch?v=IF_0W1cYPYo then im fine with it, also rama movie when

ton = American short or British long ton = 2000lbs or 2240lbs
tonne = metric ton = 1000kg

Fremen are sand Chads.

see silicon based lifeforms have been commonly known scientific theory for decades, due to silicon potentially behaving in a similar way to carbon.
None of you really like scifi do you, you're just rapefugees from Capeshittown.

It's only when they are submerged, likely it is static generated by their passing through the sand, given their surface area there would be enormous friction involved.

Sand plankton wich is another vector of the sandworm live cycle

You don't want anything from there belive me. Brian is a brainlet and a hack

How accurate is the Lynch movie to the books? Because I fucking hated it and I'm not sure how much of it was typical Lynch weird unsettling shit or if that was in the books.

if you gents feel like preparing

"Humans can only live in a fraternity of social justice" - lord leto the second

:^)

I just started reading the books, are you telling me someone is making a show?

Not at all but it looked nice and had cool music

I stopped reading after God emperor chapterhouse felt tacked on.

Movies directed by Denis Villeneuve

It skips over a LOT of shit and just doesn't take time to set up a lot of rules, what it does explain is like 100% just Paul talking to himself in his head, but from what I remember it's not an absolute massacre of the source as much as it's just feels like they ran out of time and just had shit writers who couldn't work the exposition into the movie well.

How did you guys like the SciFi miniseries?

I think they really missed most of what made dune good but it could be that it was rusched to hell.
Also the meeting with stilgar was a fuckin disgrace and the sonic weapons instead of mind control is retarded

My body is ready

Hunters and Sandworms where good because they finish the series nicely and also because they have the word Dune in the title

You are right the lava fountain was so cool XD

From what I recall then it was pretty rushed because Ridley Scott was supposed to direct but his brother died and he had to pull out and Lynch had to come in and do it instead, but I'm not sure. You are 100% right about the sonic weapons, I had blocked that from my memory but the entire end of the movie was pretty ass. Sardaukar uniforms were hilariously shit too.

Read what lynch had to say about it, he took his name off the credits because it had been ruined by the studio.
They didn't care about the book, or depth, or detail or faithfulness, they just wanted a default-length, sellable genetic "product" like always. It could have been a dog food advertisement as long as it is exactly an hour and a half long.
For capturing the mood, it does it very well, the music and the look. In the book there are no weirding modules, even though they are a cool addition. It would take 3 lord of the rings length films to tell the first book in full, lots of background, conversing and so on.
In short, the film was cool, the book too, but they differ in some areas.

Also bigger bader worms and seeworms so awesome

Not bad, Alia was the best part. The baron was a bit off, and paul's mother wasn't wuit

Wasn't it supposed to be that old crazy dude who made the holy mountain?

The sonic weapons were a cool concept, doesn't matter that they weren't in the books. They had the voice, they just didn't have the body control accurately shown or ever explained.

Yeah but Jowdorosky's Dune would have been a completely different story and if he had made it we wouldn't have the incals and the metabaron.

It was his passion project for Jodorowsky's, he had his son basically train to be Paul in the movie since he could walk and was pretty set on making it, but his movie was going to be millions and millions of dollars and was going to be strange as shit, in a world where science fiction didn't make money so no studio was going to realistically let him touch it.

>Ridley Scott’s brother died
nigga that was 30 years later

i'm not this kind of nerd, fuck off

Attached: 1504360331579s.jpg (222x202, 12K)

I want one to lock my balls in a gom jabber and then simply leave me there for several hours.

There are some things in the movie that i like a lot but the sonic weapons are not part of it.
It is more the politics and behaviour of the characters thats missing for me not the tech, that was always just a tool for frank

When do you think the first Dune was made?

"Later"

But are we finally gonna see chairdogs on the silverscreen?

Sand plankton

What kind of neerd are you dear user?

I try not to think about the author.
I was pretty disappointed when I saw an interview with him saying that he just wrote "something popular". He found it ridiculous that people looked into the ecology or philosophy elements.

It was a mixup, his brother turned out to be ok but by then it was too late.

>People think it'll get past the first book

Can you really imagine normies sitting in the theater, watching Leto II cover himself with landsharks to become a superman?

Frank Herbert said that? The interviews i saw of him seemed very different. You got a link tho that interview?

I will repeat it.
Dune is not a good book.
sling your mud, cucks.

Thanks for this, currently halfway through Children Of Dune and wondering how far to go. Think I'll have a crack at God Emperor and leave it there.

This movie is gonna flop.

This should've been a tv show or mini series.

I did the golden path when I was a teen but recently I reread god emperor then from the start up until messiah and got to say, messiah and god emperor is crap because it 's full of 2 deep 4 you bullcrap tax policy tier dialogue, while the first one is actually good because we're on a journey in a sci fi setting

What is it about sci fi or fantasy writer like Grrm who thinks they can write for shit

>NOTE OF DUNE

fuck off brian

What a loser

If you are reading children you kinda have to read god emperor or else you are just wasting time

What is your favorite fiction book then? i need somthing good right now

House of God - Samuel Shem
The Leopard -Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa

They feed on seed

>t.autist

>like that's a bad thing

Is dune books actualy good? I tried reading them, but it all seemed so contrived that i couldn't tolerate it.

>hopefuly it flops

why do you want it to flop? are you a Fremen fanatic dedicated to the first book only, and you will take the water of anyone who defiles it? or, more likely do you just shit on anything in an attempt to look edgy?

Greg Bear postulated a mechanism, in "Blood Music", in which ancestral memories are compressed and stored in a cell's intron sequences.

which Leto? Leto I was only a duke, so he didn't get to set tax policy.

Leto II enjoyed fucking with the empire, so he made Caladanian Pundi rice the basis for trade long after it was useful. fucked a lot of markets, but he could do it, so lol.

i want an Honored Matre to break her foot kicking you in the ass pocket where you keep the iPhone your mom bought you.

what they'd do to you after that does not bear describing.

Attached: Honored Matre.jpg (727x900, 179K)

Just imagine lads: feminists and sjws and hollywood lefties can now destory Dune.....

Capeshitter.

>They didn't care about the book, or depth, or detail or faithfulness, they just wanted a default-length, sellable genetic "product"

why are people surprised by this? a film production company is a business that tries to make as much money as it can. it's not a magical brotherhood dedicated to fulfilling your fantasies.

we don't talk about that.

duneinfo.com/unseen/jodorowskys-dune-uncovered

>fiction
>contrived

what is your fucking problem?

I liked it. Costumes were top notch. Chani was horrible thouh. Instead of an elf-like girl we got a ugly mutt titcow

The first one was pretty cheap but, Children of Dune was very enjoyable.

first for Paul Atreides

I wish this got made... HR Geiger mega structures....

Is Dune listenable on audiobook or should I just read? I work in an office and have 8 hours a day to just listen

Thanks I'll check them out

>bene gesserit want to create the kwisatz haderach
>to this end they spend 100 generations selectively breeding to create someone with the perfect set of genes
>it's a straight white male
This could be fun.

Why would they? Dune should perfectly fit their agenda:

>Noble desert people
>secret order composed exclusively of strong women pulling the strings behind
>idiot emperor loses throne
>sadistic incel harkonnen fatman gets rekt

the audiobooks are great
youtube.com/watch?v=faiZhxIq6gM

So the advice I see here a lot is read the first 4.

I finished 4. Is Heretics really bad in comparison?

Can someone give me a quick rundown on dune?

will Villanova put another Sneed easter egg in this?

the rest feel like an unnecessary continuation but they have cool ideas.

>Paul changed to Pauline

POTTERY

I hope the personal shields are as eye-cancerous as they were in 84.

But lady Jessica was meant to have a girl.

Dune and Dune Messiah shouldve been a single book and Herbert shouldve trimmed down a lot of the 2deep4u shit in Messiah.
Children of Dune suffers from the same problem up until Leto fuses with the sandtrout.
God Emperor is interesting though, Im not a fan of Herberts obsession with breeding programs, but the entity of the God Emperor was curious to read about.

World feels to artifical to get invested in it.

Who is best girl, and why is it Irulan?

Attached: 1469982058273.jpg (592x794, 64K)

Scott was originally hired by the producers but then replaced by Lynch. Lynch was considered for Return of the Jedi, but was hired on to do Dune instead.

You couldnt be more wronger any of the honoured maters are better

Irulan is literally a cuckquean

Jessica is best girl

>Humanity 10.000 years from now
>feudal society, computers banned, replaced by humans high on space crack
>folding space and seeing the future thanks to space crack
>problem: crack only exists on one of the biggest shithole planets in the galaxy
>good guy noble house gets sent there in a plot to wipe them out by evil pedophile lard eaters
>in the meantime, secret order of batshit insane witches tries to breed the messiah
>boy of good guy noble house could just be that
>flees the piggy house, lands in the deserts of the space crack planet
>enlightens knifefight addicted desert savages and builds private space caliphate
>the shiiiihaaaaad
>proceeds to dab on everyone

Muad'dabbin on the harkos

should be put on the the cover of the book

it's funny if described poorly but fuck me it really inspired me to see a desert one day and learn the way of real desert tribes. Just sounds so fucking cool in the book.

the video game was awesome. The forefather of Age Of Empires.

>So essentially its "turn your brain off"?

It is a work of fiction, user

Autistic RETARD

Watch Lawrence of Arabia if you haven't already since dune is essentially that but in space.

wtf, this isn't Toto

Well that's just bullshit, introns are fundamental to gene expression, you can't just turn them into glorified ancestral memory placeholders

I actually enjoyed the Great Houses trilogy by BH and KJA. Though they don't feel similar in tone, they at least feel like narrative adaptations of the encyclopedia. So in my head at least they're canon. Could barely get through the Jihad books, but still want to see how their ending with Hunters and Sandworms goes.

Attached: d7sf9sk-b2f494d2-8fd0-4a07-9b1b-c5e130ccc1ae.jpg (3230x1470, 1.22M)

That was Frank Scott, who died in 1982. You're thinking of Tony Scott, who died in 2012.

yeah honestly that'd be good if it's really successful they'll do all the books and it'll slowly become normie starwars capeshit trash

they have a few different narrators over the books iirc but one of them is very good and the other two are decent

>tfw golden path master race
I should read the rest one of these days.

The lightning is from the static buildup of all the sand moving past them, and it doesnt 'shoot everywhere' like some hollywood nazi science experiment

Moby Dick, which is not even in the same literary league, does go into seven chapters about whale biology, in spite of whales being a common enough existing thing and thus don't break the suspension of disbelief.
Sandworms make the Dune universe go from semi-believable to magic.
