if it had any less cement in that mix it would be nothing but water. i'm not saying it couldn't be a lean mix, it probably could, i don't know the intricacies of what shielding is required for the coffins, clearly the hole is much, much larger than it needs to be in width and length so unless its artistic there is clearly some shielding necessity.
the slop clearly betrays the water:cement ratio is far too high, there will be low adhesion in the cement and the concrete will be brittle. if you are going to the trouble of pouring such a huge box of concrete, which by the way is far more than one truck worth, there is no reason to make it sloppy and brittle so it will need to be recast later as the frost (in fucking russia!!) destroys it.

This is what made me decide to watch the show. I saw this clip 2 weeks ago, and knew it was two poor fuckers looking into an exposed nuclear core (pipes + all white smokes a dead giveaway) and it is still, even the melting humans scenes, the most horrifying moment in the entire show (so far). I cannot imagine a more horrifying sight then realizing you are looking into a fissioning, ON fire nuclear core.

In the short term, yes. Radiation is absorbed as a function of total mass. So greater the mass, assuming the source is constant, the net absorption is actually lower per body kg. Now in the case of Chernobyl, the RADs were so high it almost wouldn't make a difference, the same way a force made accelerating at 9 m/s^2 vs. 18 m/s^2 doesn't matter if the mass is 1.8*10^20 kg, but for very brief periods it could save your life.

I'm a ChemE and work in Compliance/EHS so I am very familiar with Chernobyl and how Radiation/Dosage works and the first episode is a fucking horror show. It is scarier than the most horror movies if you know how radiation works. Right for the word go. When Dyatalov walks past FUCKING graphite I was already going, "Holy fuck, he's gona melt." Because radiation is both a net total and an accumulation. So their net total was super high, like, unbelievably high, but their accumulation was *low*, only a few seconds/minutes. At Fuk their net total absorption was 'lower' (comparatively) but the accumulation was MUCH longer (they were exposed for several minutes.
Think of it like the difference between jumping into a pool with clothes on and getting out (parts of your body/clothes/hair may still be dry but the parts that are, ARE SUPER wet) vs. pouring a drizzle of water over your head for a few minutes.

You die faster with high net typically. Radition itself doesn't kill, it kills everything inside you. There's very little inside you that can die that won't kill the rest of you. So let's say you got 15000 RAD on your left shoulder; well their goes a significant portion of blood, bone, muscle, a few organs (heart potentially) all dead. And those highly exposed areas will essentially irradiated the rest of your body (that's why the front of Dyatlov's body looked worse than his back, because the back was being irradiated by the front). The only NICE thing is that symtoms have 'less' time to set in, so things progress MUCH faster and you spend less time at each stage. The final stages of ARS is painless; most of the periphery nervous system dies before that (you are rendered largely a vegetable) so the individual stages are brief and roll over each other.
Low and slow, so to speak, will kill you much slower, which means you experience EACH stage MUCH more acutely as there is TIME to go through it. The reality is, you're somewhat BETTER off being Akimov than say, these liquidators.

They wouldn't have been allowed to for one, for two the periphery nervous system dies from ARS pretty soon (in their cases, likely within 6-7 days) so by the time it got REALLY horrifying, like Pizzaman, they literally wouldn't be capable of lifting a gun to their temple (or even pulling a trigger).
