So is this any good? I really love the 1st 3 karate kid movies but this is a comedy? They had comedic elements sure and how the hell are Larusso and Johnny rivals again? They got over that shit. Plus neither the director or writer of the movies is involved, all this is making me doubt whether I should watch it or not.

This show was really fun.
I spent the majority of it pissed off that they made Larusso’s daughter and Robbie out to be the heroic good guys because they went to Miyagi-do, despite them both being self centred assholes. When Robbie kicked Miguel onto the stairs in season 2, it gave me hope that they were gonna be shat on or at least actually become decent people. Even if his acting isn’t good, Miguel was great. I want him to kick the shit out of everybody.

The best parts of the show are the old characters, season 2 chooses to focus on the kids a lot more and essential turns into a Disney channel original drama complete with a stupid kid humor cringe side-characters and a giant fight scene with all the kids at the end that is basically High School Musical-tier garbage. Also none of the kids except maybe the two main boys can do the choreography well enough to not have it look clumsy, which is a problem when the second season has the majority of fights be between all the other kids the worst of which is the two main girls. The first season was pretty decent and floated on it's interesting premise so I could understand people liking it and maybe wanting to talk about it but after watching the 2nd season I'm 100% the people still saying it's great are fucking Google shills of the highest order.

It's not perfect and I've never seen a Cobra Cai thread where people claim it is and everyone always admits season 2 is a 7/10 at best. It's still the best thing to come out of the whole nostalgia bait trend because it doesn't just try to make a pozzed version of the original and does it's own thing instead. The points you brought up are legitimate for the most part (I like some of the new characters and think some of the returning old ones are dull as fuck) but some generic teen drama and subpar choreography isn't enough to ruin the show for me.

KK2 took months to get from the chosen/daniel fight during obon, to when they got back to the states. they stayed and helped fix up what was left of Miyagis village.

The pilot for S1 is still the best episode. A lot of the comedy comes from Johnny being a huge boomer-fag who shits on modern life and glorifies the 80s.

S2 focuses more on the kids as rivaling dojos grow, but I guess it's understandable that they want to take some of the focus off Daniel and Johnny so as to not wear it thin. It's still there though, and it's literally the core of the show, with Johnny being the sympathetic anti-hero.
