Swords look cooler

spears are gay as fuck, real chads dual wield shields

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH DROP THE FUCKING SHIELD YOU DUMB FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

that's no match for my katana

Why would anybody drop their shield ever? Are you retarded?

Unironically this.
Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, Nazi soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

you can bash swords together for 5 minutes and it actually looks like a fight

>Nazi soldiers
>fighting japanese

swords show status

who cares about spears anymore

Attached: MW_1816413200_2[1].jpg (1280x902, 223K)

because spears are a formation weapon you nigger

You need to build like fuck to use a halberd effectively.

because spear vs spear fights are pretty boring, its just poking at each other. most people don't really give a shit and just want to be entertained, and spear fights are boring to them. they use swords because swords look cooler than spears and you can film more dramatic things with them. you can't get that stupid 'pushing swords' shot with spears because spears are too long.
the general idiot doesn't care about accurate sword fighting techniques

slashing things looks cooler than poking things

No one wants to watch a spear chucker.

Anticlimatic just poke and the fight is over, with swords you can slice people into pieces which is more visually aesthetic and pleasing.

yes. good thing that's not a halberd

>Literally all sword fights end in a thrust to the chest

How satisfying.

i like the mickey mouse on it
very cute

before that thrust to the chest they're swinging that thing around all over the place

Well it certainly fucking looks like one, especially in the left pic.

Spears are for cowards.
Swords are for honorable people.
This is why the West love swords while the Chinese love spears.

Realistic sword fights, fictional ones are cooler and more slicey than stabby.

its hilariously awful

Katanas are a meme

Spears are shit against armor retard, go back to mordhau you thrust spamming shitter

I know this is bait but katanas bend on European longswords

I wish we had more mace kino but its impossble to use maces without gore.

who /naginata/ here

But the west loves guns, user. Not swords...

Swords are useless against plate armor while spears can still get a nice poke in.

IKKO IKKI GANG

If whites had colonized NA centuries back Americans would be bragging about open sword carry.

Have you heard of a movie called 300?

have you seen troy? you can still do stupid flashy shit with just a sharp stick. choreographers just need to be creative
I'm sure it's a pollaxe.

>Swords are useless against plate armor while spears can still get a nice poke in.
factually incorrect, spears were never used to fight heavy armored forces

Attached: 1530397861461.jpg (681x633, 61K)

>that armor
LMAO what the fuck is that piece of shit? try piercing this white trash fuck

>Even in World War II, Nazi soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

"men" Implying the Japs had adult sized penis

Because they don't fit in tv storytelling.

In reality soldiers would fight in formation, suitable for spears.
You don't see those formations often on tv however. Mostly the two armies just run at eachother then spread out over a large area where they fight each other one vs one.

They do this so the main characters can go around chopping up several extras. And then an extra will come up from behind, about to kill a main character, but then another character will kill that extra. So the first character looks at the second character and they nod to eachother.

Well it's all semantics, the poor fuckers that were sent in first to hack each other up on foot weren't knights and mostly didn't have full plate armour until the late 15th century.

Knight vs Knight (plate vs plate) combat was typically finished off with a misericorde "mercy" dagger shoved through the armpit slot and into the heart after one side tired and fell.

Attached: mercydagger.jpg (640x480, 20K)

>have you seen troy? you can still do stupid flashy shit with just a sharp stick. choreographers just need to be creative
you mean like this fight?
youtube.com/watch?v=tAtbzV8CTV0
everything they do with the spears looks really slow and incredibly silly. that's why they drop them quickly and go for the swords, because sword fights look better in movies. that's just how it is.

You need really good dexterity to do cool shit with spears and thats way more exhausting than doing cool shit with a sword.

i know, that's why they don't use them. swinging that thing around isn't easy and it doesn't look very good on camera anyway

it just looks gay lmao. fucking oberyn fags yikes

Dumb faggot. Halberd literally means pole+axe.

What about a staff instead? Any part of it can whack the shit out of you.

Were swords even used that much in actual historical warfare? I figured they were more for ceremonial purposes and ornamentation and showing your rank. In a real fight you’d want either a long pokey spear or a short pokey dagger.

Big problem with swords was the huge cost compared to spears or axes.

Yeah but they were back up weapons for knights. They were effective against your men at arms in tight corridors. For example most staircases in England spiral up clock wise so the attackers couldn't use their weapons, there's one castle in Scotland where they were all left handed so the staircases spiral clock wise to fuck up right handed attackers.

Attached: msta.jpg (587x850, 113K)

and katana literally means sword so it's the same as any other sword even if it has a different shape, size, use, and history

Yes. Romans used them the most, but so did arabs (not to be confused with muslims), as well as most Euro principalities and kingdoms. Viking raiders liked them a lot, too.

Why use a virgin spear/sword when you can use a chad war hammer?

Attached: warhammer.jpg (500x500, 20K)

it was mostly spears. it's kind of like today with modern armies, the rifle is the main weapon and the pistol is your backup side arm. spears were your main weapon, swords were your backup.

Just hug the left wall as you're going up.

They need more warhammer kino/vidya where it isn't just a shittier version of a sword.

This. Mace superior in every way to swords. Spear still wins due to reach however

SWORDS ARE DICK AND BALLS IMAGERY
THAT'S THEY ARE SO COMMON
WHEN TWO PEOPLE FIGHT WITH THEM IS LITERALLY A DICK FIGHT

Now you know it.

Swords were more for carrying to show rank or every day street attacks or dueling, in a battle swords aren’t the best they are a side arm to carry when things get close and you lose your main weapon mostly.

spears are bigger

Swords are a better phallic stand-in. Everyone loves to just wave 'em around.

It's time to leave.

How young do you have to be to not immediately recognize this pasta

Those staircases are a tight fit, literally designed for short arming swords so plebeians couldn't use their big two handed weapons. I've gone up quite a few and it's very claustrophobic

Attached: msta2.jpg (450x600, 60K)

but have no balls

which one would you choose in battle?

halberds are for gays

Until plate armor was more common swords were the preferred weapon. Problem is they were expensive and difficult to learn. Holding a spear and formation was easier to teach. To say swords weren't as common because they were a preferred sidearm is a bit disingenuous.

Basic flanged mace. Preferably blessed beforehand

>Mace
>Superior to a sword

In the same way a bat is more useful than a sword is?
>Big bladed weapon
>Big blunt weapon

Stop being retarded. The one that can stab and slash is obviously more useful.

Nah, gimme a billhook/guisarme. Pink them at range with the spikes, hook them off horseback, enough weigh on it to crush with the axeblade. A swiss army knife at the end of a 6 foot pole.

Attached: Polearms.jpg (589x415, 50K)

weren't they also cheaper to make?
wood is more plentiful than steel

katana or tou 刀 means a single edge sword or saber
A double edged sword is a ken or tsurugi 剣
a European sword is typically a 剣

Why not just combine the two?

Attached: w_5_0011740_german-landsknechte-flamberge-sword.png (850x850, 143K)

Not against a protected opponent it isn't. Your virgin sword will bound off of my armor while my chad mace caves in a cheekbone.

>he doesn't use a volge
Knave

they were cheaper to make and it took less time to train people to use them. if you need a bunch of untrained peasants to fight for you the easiest thing to do is give them a spear and drill them for a bit, its not that complicated. swords are very complicated.

Maybe if you're striking a side of beef. Against literally anything with any armor a blow from a mace will do far more damage

BASED

He's black, he simply doesn't understand.

>muh flame blade that is hard as hell to forge and makes wounds that don’t close unlike regular swords except that’s a meme and the wounds are pretty much the same so it’s heavier and more expensive for no reason
these swords were usually for show and when they were used in combat it was for breaking enemy lances before grabbing the front grip and using it as an incredibly awkward stabbing weapon

Fucking hell you're stupid. Swords used to go right through chainmail and plate armour all the time.

From the time chainmail was developed to the late 20th century armour was always shit. It was only with the invention of stronger synthetic materials armour really became viable and useful.

Swords and plate armour only became truly popular in the late medieval period when firearms started to make armour and swords obsolete and cheap. The only proper war fought with plate armour and swords was The War of The Roses which is why it's such an inspiration to us today, it was the only real war that had medieval tech used in full before the early modern era shat all over it.

Attached: Tewkesbury.jpg (1524x915, 441K)

The flame blade was for cutting the heads off of polearms, mainly pikes.

>armour was always shit.
its time to stop posting now

Attached: clint-eastwood-photos-12.jpg (1200x836, 135K)

Literally the point of armor was so you couldn't get slashed or stabbed

Medieval reenactor here: Ahahah. No.

Replace firearms with crossbows and I agree. Early guns were just mini cannons tied to a stuck and were not that effective. Flintlock changed the game with handguns.

Classics never go out of style

>A flame-bladed sword or wave-bladed sword has a characteristically undulating style of blade. The wave in the blade is often considered to contribute a flame-like quality to the appearance of a sword. While largely decorative, some attributes of the waved blade were useful in combat.[citation needed]

refer to the “citation needed”

the zweihander was used for cutting the heads off of pole arms yes but the wavy blade of the flamberge is extremely dubious in functional advantage versus a standard edge
Unless you’re slicing a loaf of bread, then it’s great

>Swords used to go right through chainmail and plate armour
No. Chainmail protected against slashing, but blunt force was directly transferred to the wearer's body.

haha that guy is the back has a tiny little cuck mace

>It's another user wants to sound like a weapon specialist episode.

Spears are good, but shields mess with them a lot. Honestly your best all around bet is a large shield and a short sword: rush in under the shield’s cover, stab quickly and aggressively. As to armor.... well, just hope you have some of your own. No matter what weapon you’re using, if you run into a guy in armor plate, just avoid him.

>t. a man who never wore either

Nice to know. I'm sure your 4th hand experience is especially knowledgable and worthy of note.

put a metal colander over your face and try to slash it with a box cutter
now try the same thing without the colander

>tfw look up professional fencing videos hoping it looks like a badass swordfighting sport but it's fucking stupid bullshit
I was born in the wrong generation

Attached: looking at the sunset wojak.jpg (653x490, 32K)

shields stopped being used when armor became standard
real easy to just grab your opponent's spear and buttfuck him, polearms are only good in formation

why don't they show historically accurate archery instead of line up and shoot each other bullshit?

Attached: historically accurate archery.webm (800x450, 2.68M)

your best all around bet is to be in a line of spearmen versus one knight in armor
which is why armies used so many cheap spearmen even though the expensive knights looked very fancy

In England crossbows were shunned for being cowardly weapons that took no training, a woman or a child could operate one . In England there's a lot of skeletons with curves forearm bones where they started training with the longbow from an early age, by law. It's probably the only reason we got a full on plate vs plate war.

Attached: longbows.jpg (1800x1259, 461K)

Put a 2cm piece of steel over your face and then get someone to hit you as hard as they can with a machete and see what happens.

>Multiple fractures to the face
>Bleeding to face and head
>Possible skull fracture
>Concussion

That's what would happen.

curved forearm bones*

Great! Now try it without the piece of steel and see what happens
or you can go on /gif/ and see videos from Africa and Southeast Asia of domestic disputes that ended in a machete chopping someone’s skull in half.
if it’s a horizontal slash you don’t always die instantly, which is unfortunate

spears aren't very glamorous, and pretty much any peasant can use one

Based Nipponsuki

What about flame throwers?

man you just cant beat the classics

I don't know why it took forever to realize polearms. Seems like such a brilliant idea, even as simple as just having a spikey crossguard or side-attachment a'la bill/glaive if not an actual axe like a halberd or poleaxe.

Considering just a tap is disqualification/'defeat' that's really not well representative. I also fucking hate that faggot newbie weapon in Mordhau.

that move he does where he stabs behind the shield and swings it around is so sick
