Should I watch Fringe? I'm hungry for more Harris

Nice is this the newest angloLARP thread? Hello fellow reddit comrades! In this thread we discuss things Chernobyl and Chernobyl related.

FYI to those of you that don’t know:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation

Let’s get memeing lads!

how would you have reacted to seeing irl ghouls?

Attached: smoothskin.jpg (620x829, 347K)

I have a plan. It involves drinking copious amounts of vodka.

Attached: Legasov's plan.png (1920x1080, 1.82M)

>other dude had fucking greyblack skin
At what do you not kill them out of mercy?

He has a few scenes in Lincoln as Ulysses S. Grant.

>Didn't even show Akimov because he was so gruesome

Attached: tripfriends.png (1008x955, 368K)

I was clearly not born to work in a hospital, I'd throw up at the sight of these guys, and not just from their radioactivity

>there was a fire and explosion in Chernobyl reactor 2 in 1991
Imagine the fucking panic that caused until everyone realized it wasn't a reactor issue.

The showrunner said they were planning to show a lot more of the firemen slow and excruciating deaths but cut most of it away, it felt gratuitous with all those lingering shots.

I know this, but somehow I can't resist taking the bait every now and then.

Attached: 1496973434407.jpg (960x720, 71K)

Obligatory of you haven’t watched The Terror go dive in

Sounds like the right call. I think they got just the right amount of body horror into the episode before it lost its effect.

I think they made the right call, it's all been pretty tasteful and Vasily was fucking horrendous by the end, we didn't really need anyone else.

Euthanasia had been illegal in the USSR since the 30s.

imagine being the fireman's wife and reliving this
is she still around?

I can't believe how good episode 3 was, absolute Kino from start to finish.

>miners almost done digging large space under reactor
>they see pic related

Attached: 1927636495.png (1200x816, 1.73M)

they especially wanted on Vasily longer, but some producers pointed out that it would seems sadistic and cruel, which was not the point of showing their agony.

Duga dog.

Khodemchuck's body is under the reactor 4 debris and is entombed in the sarcophagus.

Comrades is this black thing graphite?

There was cyrllicanon the other day that had info on Nikolai Fomin, iirc he still had a nuclear power related career

>findings reported during the 20-y period after the accident regarding stress-related symptoms, effects on the developing brain, and cognitive and psychological impairments among highly exposed cleanup workers.
>With respect to the developing brain of exposed children who were in utero or very young when the accident occurred, the World Health Organization as well as American and Israeli researchers have found no significant associations of radiation exposure with cognitive impairments.
Is this paper suggesting that there might be psychosomatic or "placebo" effects on the mental health of people involved with the Chernobyl accident?

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18049228

>based on fictional events

That's fucking rad

No Generation Kill or Band of Brothers? Those are always the top recommendations, unless you hate war movies.

>China is working on a nuclear reactor of their own design rather than paying foreign companies
Oh god.

As Eastern European oldfag who was raised during communism era I much appreciate this show's level of accuracy in the portrayal of how it all really looked like. The houses, cars, interiors, people, absurdity of communist party, how everyone acted, the lies, the imitation game that everyone had to play to survive, pretty much everything about those times. I'm really surprised HBO made something this accurate and that capitalist pigs like you appreciate it.

Attached: me in the background.jpg (579x337, 88K)

Let's hope that when it inevitably explodes, it'll be like pouring poison on an anthill, and not on a large collection of cockroaches.

>has the most expensive grave in human history

> based on true events or based on fictional events

Attached: g6pTtXy.jpg (810x1080, 164K)

>As Eastern European oldfag who was raised during communism era
Prove it.

He actually gained superpowers and is currently residing on Mars with his blue cock out

Attached: 6401160-0044994088-19186.jpg (212x384, 43K)

Why did they design that character with a huge birthmark on his forehead? To hint that he was also a victim of radiation? Will this come into play later?

do people who die of radiation poisoning really look like that near the end?

I bet the poos wipe us out before china oopsies themselves. After reading about those chemical plant Fuck ups imagining an Indian run nuclear reactor is terrifying

Well by now their spies probably have everything they need to copy whatever reactor they want tbqh

Fucking Dyatlov knew how to defend against radiation from experience after the last accident. If it's only 3.6 it can't kill you.

they look even worse according the creator of the show

Attached: 2340896.jpg (514x623, 117K)

>alive as of 1996
I dunno I'm not holding out much hope for this guy

If it’s bad enough and you live long enough for it to keep progressing yeah. You basically are decomposing while still “living”

I swear to God i will hunt down the first user taking that bait.

Lol, nice bait.

I hate you Americans so much. Dear jesus i hope this is bait.

>The houses, cars, interiors, people, absurdity of communist party, how everyone acted, the lies, the imitation game that everyone had to play to survive, pretty much everything about those times.
Could you give specific examples from your own experiences? I take it from your post you were alive when the incident happened?

All of your cells have died and your internal organs are turning to soup while you are bleeding internally and out of every orifice. I imagine its pretty fucking bad.

Akimov's wife said he was completely black, looked like a mummy, and weighed about as much as a small child.

Imagine everything that happens to a corpse left out in room temperature, but while you are still alive.

How expensive is a tour through Chernobyl and/or the Pripyat area? I’m thinking of going once the Ukrain-Russia shit dies down.

Agreed. It somehow managed to top 1, which I didn't think was possible. Absolute misery kino.

Attached: cerawerwef.jpg (1266x653, 344K)

Unbelievable

Attached: imdb.jpg (1080x697, 89K)

Gorby is actually rather famous in the US. Dude's undoubtedly baiting.

Can you imagine working in one of the other reactors and having to dodge fucking hungry radioactive wolves on your way to work?

>the yuropoor actually fell for it

>not a single ones of these mad lads were circumcised

holy mother of based

Attached: 1558470786340 (1).jpg (777x791, 149K)

I would probably be too paranoid of ending up like him and just go home and find another tbqhwy

Feed me /RBMK/ memes

Opens with high tension, ends with a kino shot everything else was top tier. This show still gives me hope for having good shit to watch.

>they didn't show faceless ghoul akimov
boo

You mean lasagna-like skin? Yeah, they do.

Attached: IMG_20180823_024905.jpg (861x558, 83K)

It's even worse. The creator has said that they toned it down for the show because they didn't want it to be too gratuitous.

>be Soviet bureaucrat from Moscow
>this guy approaches you
What do?

I asked this rhetorically in another thread - but has anyone who's kept track of IMDB seen a show rise up the ranks this quickly before now? This is like Endgame's opening weekend but for critical acclaim instead of box office success.

Serious attention to detail, right there.

Even worse. The real Ignatenko's muscles were sloughing off his bones and he was coughing up his internal organs.

What the ACTUAL fuck

Been posted a billion trillion times, but it's easily the best.

Attached: 1557843449411.png (798x1735, 409K)

It's strange that Хoдeмчyк had his time as flavor of the week meme about two years ago.

Did they really get naked? Or that's just western degeneracy taking place?

Yeah it happened with GoT when it came out as well. Plebs gonna pleb.

Famous and respected. I've been surprised how unflattering his portrayal has been in this

I wouldn't doubt it. Why do you shy away from the human form? Pornography has ruined people.

Attached: 1557940468047.jpg (600x617, 219K)

Attached: 1558469481730.jpg (1158x1954, 916K)

Of course they got naked. Slavs aren’t prudes or insecure with their sexuality like anglos. The micropreen is an anglo touch though.

Attached: PicsArt_05-21-06.24.18.png (1098x1080, 297K)

It happened. The creator talked about it in the podcast.

You're about 10 years late to the best possible experience over there.

It's so great hiding tripfags. Makes the whole thread better.

But I didn't see graphite. Nobody did

Why do you say that? What was so great about 2009 chernobyl?

Top left is not ouchi you misinformation spreading unkomrade

>unflattering
Guy is remarkable in keeping his composure around insufferable dorks. He seems like a chill dude who is willing to make callous decisions for the greater good. I wouldn't mind being buddies with him. His character is a little flat, but the show isn't about him, ultimately.

never had to do it before, need to do it now, how to comrade?

It would be better if you also didn’t obsessively talk about me, but here we are.

I would bet Cowadooty really increased the amount of people going there

Just be an anglo and all the forms of cuckoldry in life will naturally come to you.

Attached: 1558474082996.jpg (3016x1024, 866K)

Hope to god my suit isn’t expensive

you didn't see any graphite because there wasn't any graphite

That was Gorbachev, dummy. He ended communism and opened a Pizza Hut in Moscow

Well, but it's a radiation victim anyway. And who is it, though?

How would you consider it unflattering? He listened to people and acted accordingly giving them anything they asked for to end the crisis and listened to scientists over politicos.

Call of Duty, STALKER, Chernobyl Diaries and other related cheap shitty movies, lots of normie shit memed Chernobyl for a while at the same time.

Miners had privileges because the entirety industry ran on coal
Thats why nobody’s talks back to them

You are welcome Newcomrade.

Act genial and thank him for his service as he wipes grime on me, because I'm spineless and know I deserve it. I'm also Canadian, hence the unwarranted politeness.

I remember those days. That's when I was doing /k/ in a big way. I still don't know that it would be much different, though. It's not the pyramids of giza or something.

I knew that already, i mean actually filtering him out like some people do in /vg/

I just meant that the post-USSR western media like to portray him as a friendly grandfatherly figure. This show portrays him in what is probably a more realistic approach though.

they shoud do more mini seasons about other nuclear disasters

Windscale kino

episode 1
>establishes the need for a british bomb and the construction ending with the Montebello test
>John Cockcroft(who is now a pakistani ftm transexual) will insist on putting filters on the chimney despite everyone calling him stupid

episode 2
>further nuclear testing, the need to periodically anneal the reactor core is shown and safety standards are dropping due to the rapid need for plutonium.
>a wiley health physicist(who is now black and disabled) realises the surrounding area is heavily contaminated

episode 3
>tritium is being bred and now even the plant operators are worried about safety.
>as the first british thermonuclear bomb is detonated it cuts back to a burst fuel cell in the reactor

>episode 4
>during an annealing a fire starts in one of the fuel channels and quickly engulfing the entire core and the metallic uranium fuel elements making it all burn at 1,300 °C
>every worker is recalled and they take shifts in extreme radiation at the charge face with fire hoses and manually ejecting fuel canisters with steel poles
>the deputy general manager throws away his personal dosimeter so he doesn't have to stop directing the firefighting efforts
>he figures out how to stop the fire
>personally climbs the walkway to the top of the still burning core with the fire chief and manually closes the air vents
>fire stops

>"First the flames went, then the flames reduced and the glow began to die down," he described, "I went up to check several times until I was satisfied that the fire was out. I did stand to one side, sort of hopefully," he went on to say, "but if you're staring straight at the core of a shut down reactor you're going to get quite a bit of radiation." (Tuohy lived to the age of 90, despite his exposure.)

wait, so dyatlov in the show is like half-way to the ghoul process, but he died 9 years later?

Its probably because they tend to portray Reagan in the same way and they're always painted as buddies

is the canadian trip fag dead? I heard he was/is a degenerate that shagged dogs m8

of course

This is the ideal male body, you may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.

The nurses and doctors were delusional, he had them escorted out of the infirmary.

i don't think he got much worse than what you saw in ep3, and he eventually recovered pretty much completely

Would you be willing to die of ARS if you got to spend a few years with her and have her carry your child

Attached: image.jpg (690x968, 394K)

That scene where they pat him one by one was a bit cheesy and unnecessary tbqh

Is he still alive in the last part where he's basically a corpse and the nurse is bandaging him?

Attached: 1542289734230.png (505x596, 633K)

when living in the USSR denial gives you +50% radiation resistance

If you survive the burns, your dead cells will come right off. That means healthy cells can divide and eventually take the place of the burn.

t. Minister of coal

Is this worth watching?

they were making him look like the minister of coal

Yes.

it was showing the proletariat shitting on bureaucracy.
Absolutely KINO

yes, comrade

Attached: 1557423434597.jpg (550x620, 116K)

No.

Dyatlov got lucky twice. His body managed to recover from large doses of radiation two times. Chances are he was a naturally good healer and had a wicked good immune system. Normal folk are lucky to live through one significant dose.

Fuck no. The world doesn't need another Me running around.

>3.6 roentgen

True story, I clicked over the the podcast with my special lady, and she said she "didn't know where to look" while we listened to it. She ended up watching the looped dust animation.

I was in the army during the time it happened, so we knew about it pretty early, before the news got out to the entire world. They administered Lugola Liquid (iodine that you can drink) for everyone at my unit but didn't tell us the extent of what happened. Of course we were told to not speak with anyone about it and that the incident was minor, so we couldn't even tell our families. Then the news broke out and the whole country was being administered iodine and even the main party committee said it was serious, they started to monitor levels of radiation in the child's thyroids and advised everyone to stay indoors. But then after few days they completely flipped the narrative and started to tell everyone that the incident was not harmful and it's just western propaganda that makes it seem bigger than it really was. They even encouraged the kids to play in the open again because it was "safe" and they could just wash after it and nothing harmful would happen to them. If you questioned that you could get detained. We never learned the true extent of this catastrophe until after communism ceased to exist.

He appeared to be the sharpest chairman of all that been. Before him was just a stream of dying old men. He was the guy who started the reformation of the USSR because he saw it was necessary. He worked against insane amount of resistance from the communist apparatchiks. He is due credit for that - but - in minds of most Russians who lived back then he will be remembered for wavering in 1991, letting the whole country undergo fission. In the end, he fucked up. He will be remembered for weakness.

they burned the coal, they thus must pay the toll

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascension_Island#Discovery
> Dutch ship's officer, Leendert Hasenbosch, set ashore at Clarence Bay as a punishment for sodomy in May 1725.[8] British mariners found the Dutchman's tent, belongings and diary in January 1726; the man's remains were not found. His diary was published in translation in London later that same year, under the title Sodomy Punish'd
was this your great grandpappy?

Dyatlov isn't half-ghoul, he has a mild case of radiation sickness. Notice how his hair/face is shaved because it was contaminated, not totally gone as if it fell out

hes just got a little sunburn thats all

fucking hell

is it worth listening to?

I love how everyone ignores that fucking loser now. Reminds me of that one faggot kid that would always pipe up and yell shit or facts in class and the whole class would be silent

Can't remember that guys name but he was a jap who was in a 1990s reactor accident and got lethally irradiated. They took him to hospital and tried everything they could to keep him alive, drugs, transplants - they wanted to see if they could reverse the radiation damage with enough medical treatment. It took him about 80 days to die. He would have been in agony but he was pumped full of top end pain killers. Makes me want to die in the initial blast in a nuclear war.

is just feed water no biggie

yes all of them are very interesting. They explain key differences betrween the show and reality, offer translations, and some cool production stuff. Really adds to the experience. It seems like it could be on NPR for whatever that is worth.

Imagine his soft white skin all red and scarred because of the beatings you inflinged on him, and all that harm, all that humiliation, all that pain justified by "love". God, what a marvelous feeling.

>3.6 estrogen

jesus christ, this physically hurts to watch

wtf wasnt yuvchenko the one that held the door open?

Honestly drill-guy is the crazy one there

just a little bit

did this a while back when episode 1 was airing.

Wasn't Putin just a KGB thug at this point? What would he have done?

Who's the one who refused to go up on the roof and take a look?

Sweet fuck I can't even imagine the suffering those lads endured.

>harming a single hair on his head
>not wooing him so much he begs to be bred all the time

It's obviously bait, don't be stupid.

shoot Dyatlov

Anatoly Sitnikov I believe.

jesus christ i cannot believe he was that close and lived

That giant arc is crazy. Apparently it's airtight and has a bunch of remote control demolition equipment inside it and they're gonna knock the whole facility down.

Yuvchenko is dead?

Have you fallen in love with him too?

Another somewhat old Sovietfag, what bothers me in the show is how they made everything look old even though it isn't.

Commieblocks, for example, weren't built as grey, they were white. Everything was white, curbs, sidewalks, buildings, sculptures etc.

Honestly the cities looked really nice back then, it was a very minimal, Spartan architecture, but it looked pretty when new and white. These buildings, nowadays, are just extremely dirty, because of their age.

To me personally it's kind of sad that showrunners did it this way, perpetuating this misconception, because the interior designs and props are on spot.

i am focusing on the fire

who do you think shot the elephant's foot?

based

>Well, Comrade Nuclear Physicist, unless you happen to have a butter and caviar sandwich on you, you can get the fuck out of my room.

Based Dyatlov

Attached: butter-and-caviar.jpg (894x754, 74K)

I think he's my favourite actor. Mad Men, Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, The Expanse, The Terror, Chernobyl. He's in nothing but fucking kino. I'm downloading Fringe and The Crown now.

That is an unusually solid hairline for a balding 57-year-old.

To be fair they shot the exterior Pripyat scenes in a real Soviet commieblock town that was built during the same town period. I imagine cleaning or painting all of the buildings back to their as-new luster was outside the budget of the series.

Post the most based big guys /rbmk/

Fringe is kinda cringe, but it has its moments

who was this poor soul?

Why can't he just catch a fucking break, anons?

I'm just listening to the episode 2 podcast now, and apparently this big guy got a hand-shaped burn on his back from when he was carrying that guy with the steam burns. That was before he went back in and held the door to the reactor core open. What a fucking unit it's insane that he lived.

I didn't know you can experience second-hand suffering through a video until today

Attached: 1486448210458.jpg (456x628, 171K)

He's in Sharpe too. One of the chosen men. Based comfy period kino

Apparently he's just the season one antagonist, so I'll probably watch that and skip the rest.

Go to the factory and get your fuckin shinebox.

>butter and caviar sandwich
I really want to try this.

he wasnt in direct line of the reactor, there is a snake curve behind the door specifically so radiation cant go straight out.
he didnt even see core-chan.

it's really good bro, an upper class breakfast staple

It took me three viewings to notice the guy who got the dosimeter from the safe was the one who got sent to the roof. Even once I recognized his face, I still couldn't believe it; I had to spend a little time internalizing the unfairness of the situation.

I wonder what they look like standing up.

Is it meant to be hot like a toasted thing?

>I really want to try this.
Is this really such a slav-only food? I can't believe there are people who never tried it. Whats next? People that never tasted pork?

he cant bring himself to even look at his """son"""

it's cold, slice of bread, butter, caviar, done
upgrade to black caviar if richfag

Sounds like a cold hors d'oeuvre, or a tea sandwich or something

That guy didn't even look that bad compared to the fire fighter dude with the pregnant wife.

That niggers skin was basically completely gone and his lips were black.

Curious, were there any pictures of the initial ARS victims (firefighters/plant workers) as they progressed from being living dead to dead-dead?

I imagine there must be some more medical leaning book on it no?

Nope. Cold.

I made a steak tartar recipe that included caviar recently
the first time i ever had caviar
you could use a fish sauce and have the same effect minus the little crunch
a tin of it that's a few grams is 50 bucks here

So who exactly was this guy? I couldn't work out which one he was from episode 1?

>Random GoT actors popping up
Can't wait to see the Roose get loose.

One of the valve boys.

The two guys in really shit conditions were the ones who went into the water in episode one to turn all of those valves.

yeah? where do you think caviar comes from?

the guy who went to turn the valves with akimov

I'm really craving to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again.

Attached: 1522348200738.jpg (721x960, 73K)

He was one of the two technicians who were manning the control room panels and then went down into the water to open the valves. He had a blonde moustache.

Tuptunov

Attached: sacha.jpg (724x728, 54K)

Leonid Toptunov

Attached: toptunov.jpg (866x431, 147K)

could be the show taking creative liberties, but the way he bled just from pressing up against the inside of the door, i assumed he was finished

It was tuptanov

From wiki: In the control room at the reactor control panel at the moment of explosion, with Akimov; received fatal dose during attempts to restart feedwater flow into the reactor; posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" of third degree

if you haven't read Roadside Picnic I'd recommend it
The movie ONLY if you want something that's extremely philosophy/ideological and slow paced and atmospheric with no real action

Northern fucking shits are not allowed.

Mishildur, cast away the graphite and help me with the valves!

Attached: no.png (462x1052, 492K)

would risk radioactive death for/10

>where do you think caviar comes from?
Fish. So scandinavian and alaskan fags should have it too.

i second this

New ship?

i thought the kind people eat comes from a type of fish only in black sea

The inside of the door was still highly irradiated, it really did fuck up his body in the places where he was touching it. He only barely survived, had to spend a year in hospital and get several skin grafts in those places.

Thank you lads. I thought it was that guy, but wasn't sure.
Did we only see him and the fire fighter guy in that condition? I cant imagine how bad the men looked who actually looked into the reactor.

Kaviar only comes from sturgeon, otherwise it's called roe

Were any of these actually new in 1986 though? My grandpa said by 1990 everything was rotting apart and garbage, industrial facilities, cities, everything. I've also seen a bunch of old photos in every single one these commie blocks look grey.

>COMRAD
>HERE IS ELEPHANT FOOT

>I SHOOT IT WITH MY AK IN CASE GENERAL ASK US WHY WE DIDN'T SHOOT IT

Yeah. We aren't shown Akimov during his interview. Presumably the three guys that wound up looking into the core were really, really fucked up.

i'm
NUUUUUUUUUUCLEEEAAAAAAARR

got it, probably why we don't have it

just read this, I cant explain it myself
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon#Caviar

they were pretty new, the city was only 15 years old

>tfw no butter and caviar

Attached: ineson.png (1120x674, 600K)

>only 15 years
So it was grey.

"true kaviar" only comes from the beluga sturgeon and is extremely expensive nowadays

that was kino tho

I'M BREAKING UP
INSIIIIIIIDE

Wasn't it 4 guys? 3 were inside the building looking into the reactor and the 1 guy on the roof?

I thought it was 2 inside the building and 1 guy on the roof. You might be right.

Yuvchenko died in 2008 of leukemia I believe.

>tfw no free caviar with 5c beer.

Does anyone have the virgin coal minister vs chad miner?

Kylo Röntgen is still alive?

new bred njuyen

Attached: bottoms up.jpg (1482x958, 67K)

2 in the building. Third guy in the building held the door and he's still alive to this day

I think one of the 3 guys held the door open, while the other 2 went in if my memory serves me right.

anyone else thought that was Ben Mendelsohn for a second? almost shat myself when he said he was in charge

Plenty of people did. He looks just like him.

Yeah Yuvchenko did the hodor thing, he didn't actually see the core.

Which amazes me cause he got burnt holding that door.
Wasn't he the guy later on sitting alone who asked for a ciggy?

Yep. You didn't see him again because his leg was too fucked up for him to make it all the way back to the control room.

I was praying for mining chief to ask him if he felt in charge when he walked up and touched his shoulder

>Wasn't he the guy later on sitting alone who asked for a ciggy?
Yeap. He's a fucking tank.

According to the director in the podcast, he got a hand shaped burn on his back from carrying that scalded guy too

Most Americans only experience with caviar would be eggs on a sushi roll.

Caviar is only sturgeon eggs, that shit is too expensive to put on sushi

I always see it in stores but it's the big orange kind instead of the small black kind. I don't like big fish eggs since it feels like biting into a cyst or something. Even the slav market near me doesn't sell the small black kind. I assume that's because it's pretty much illegal if I remember right.

I bet there are some extra expensive joints where retards eat sushi with caviar.

It's also probably too granular to sit on top of the rice properly.

>I assume that's because it's pretty much illegal if I remember right.
I thought US only banned fishing but not selling.

I'm not very smart, but how come people have to stay away from Chernobyl forever meanwhile people live in Hiroshima? Are reactors more radioactive than bombs?

Naw I think it's actually illegal unless it's from some super regulated farm and thus insanely expensive. The fact that I can get truffles for cheap as shit here but can't get Caviar is a real bummer. At least I can get incredibly fresh trout here so that's a bonus of living in Utah I guess.
