Oh so the movie went with the original story. where Manta was an autistic kid who was calmed by being in the u=ocean. But then he was kidnapped and raped repeatedly on a boat. And he saw Aquaman and cried out for help, but Aquaman didn't hear him and left him to be raped again. So he decided the ocean, and by extension it's protector, were evil and needed to be destroyed?

Nah, he pirated submarines at the behest of Ocean Master who was using them in false flag attacks to start a war with the surface. His dad loses and ends up stuck on a sinking ship and Aquaman bails without saving the dad. So now he wants revenge.

It totally is though.

It's an odd movie. It tries to be a compromise between Snyder's operatic grandiosity and the the people demanding something brighter and more colourful. Which is how it ended up looking like the cover of a 70s prog rock album. It is somewhat endearing for how earnestly it commits to it. It's not an especially good movie but it's fun.
