This. Terminator Salvation is the closest we got and it mishandled everything. The future of Terminator is supposed to be a totally bleak hell where the remnants of humanity are hiding underground, but Salvation severely lacked this doom and gloom and had more in common with generic war flicks than the post-apocalypse scenes that were shown in T1 and T2.

An excellent short story that will never be properly adapted to the big screen. No one in Hollywood wants to spent tens of millions of dollars on a film that would be 90 to 120 minutes of pure gloom.

I would describe it as awe-inspiring in terms of how bad it is. Not sure how much laughing you will do, but every scene is a new low, pretty amazing achievement to be honest.

Salvation is the definition of bland. The only positive thing I can even come up with for that movie is that Anton Yelchin was okay as young Kyle Reese.

Terminator 3 had two main faults - it was a complete rehash of T2, and the attempts at humour fell flat. It still has a few good scenes and I would take it over Salvation any day of the week.

I remember the TV show they did with the hot chick terminator.
I actually made it through the first season but stopped immediately in the first episode of season 2 when John Connor hands over his gun to the terminator girl after she's gone haywire and attempting to kill him, just to prove that he "trusts" her.
And every other character including sarah connor is just letting this happen.
So so terrible.
