Why is the USSR so much in the zeitgeist.

Only sensible answers considered under the purely rational and strict guidelines of continental thought, please.

Would standing in the ionized air make you feel like you're being shocked with electricity? Or would it obliterate you before that could even register?

He would have snatched at the packet and made a piggy squealing noise, then lost all his teeth, suddenly and mysteriously.

I feel like some modern planners are trying to capture some of this aesthetics.

Do commieblocks get comfy after a while or do they always feel cold and lifeless?

Do you all think Russia is better than Western Europe/US objectively? Like I'm an American and there's patriotic pride but on an objective level I can admit I'd enjoy living in Ireland or Italy just as much as the USA, probably more.

Just watched the first 2 episodes.

Pure Kino, im addicted.

Depends on neighborhood. Somewhere they are ok, somewhere in smaller cities there are people shitting and peeing and throwing used syringes inside your block hall. And the ceilings inside the flats are low, 2.20 meters.

The USSR perfectly encapsulates the peak of the industrial revolution in a directly contradictory methodology of communism. This sense of fervent pride to the point of complete denial is prevalent in the wests current inclination of a liberal communist utopia which parallels the USSR perfectly down to the ostracism received by people who attempt to question the truth of the status quo. In every sense other than name the USSR lives on

also their aesthetic is amazing.

You're giving me deja vu, this bus station looks exactly liek the one on Saltovka, even the coloring of the bricks

Vse pravilno sdelal

do you still hate america?

Why were those tards naked and what were they doing?

I'm Ukrainian so I kinda not happy with Russia taking our land. And overall with neo-dicatorship and oversurveillance in Russia.

just watched the third.... i havent been to /rbmk/ for two days because of spoilers which there are plenty so be carefull ...

Not really.

>I can admit I'd enjoy living in Ireland or Italy just as much as the USA, probably more.
Then you can get out.

Digging a hole because theire balls were sweaty

No, but considering where I live, I wouldn't even have to leave the country if I wanted to experience the feeling of visiting babushka's cabin. Now for cities, it's a whole other thing entirely. But again, a lot of the older buildings have the same architecture, so I still wouldn't have to leave the country to experience some of that. Shit, the nearest city to me has old wood-heated houses sandwiched between modern flats.

they're minors. they're naked to work hard

Quite a few were extensively renovated, for an idea of that, check out the video of when akabur nearly burned alive in his flat.

we all know how it ends. Crosier hangs himself and roof guy goes to gulag

I'm too old to express hate and love to countries. I'm okay with American culture, to me it's neutral. I admire your science, especially NASA.

I think it's strange to think an election can be hacked in US. It can be brutally rigged in Russia though, by ordering to fabricate results, throw thick piles of pre-marked ballot papers and so on. I think Trump was voted for legitimately, as a protest of American people.

do you have internet freedom or is it like china that says no to google and gays/porn?

Yeah as soon as I make enough to retire I'll be more than happy to disappear into the Irish countryside and go full comfy mode. Enjoy your mutts and riots pal, don't act like we don't have problems.

>oh wow look at all those hundreds of people who'll probably die from the radiations
>nobody died
lol

Can't wait to see the back of you, traitor.

>especially NASA
You know what never ceases to amuse be? NASA has adopted and retired the space shuttle, but Russians continue to use a spacecraft that dates back to the fucking Apollo program. And now they're hauling NASA's astronauts to the ISS with it because Americans don't have shuttle replacement ready.

Why would anyone die if the core is completely intact?

Because she represents the gormlessness of the general public.

No one had told her about radiation. She still believed her husband was in the hospital for severe burns. The KGB was making sure no one spoke about the Chernobyl accident to cause panic and shit.

That's not true anymore, but it was true for a long time.

In Ukraine some Russian propaganta websites are banned.

In Russia lots of websites are banned, political ones, porn, even hentai. People are often prosecuted for social media posts insulting govt, blaming the church and so on.

How're they getting to space now?

You may not like it but this is how peak performance looks like.

Jesus, what if i go to Moscow as a tourist from another country and say Putin is wrong about stuff?

the general public doesn't really know how radiation works nor the effects of it, especially in the 80s

reminder that something like chernobyl had never happened before and the general public still had no idea what radiation really was

poor guy, thank god i live in a free country that's not afraid of porn

>they're minors
I don't know... they looked pretty old to me...

Arguably the general public still doesn't know.

>what radiation really was
You mean, nothing?

>In 2006, responding to persistent allegations that the official figure of 31 direct deaths during and immediately following the disaster omits other confirmed trauma and ARS deaths from the same period, the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) revisited the issue. Citing additional deaths from trauma or ARS directly attributable to the disaster during 1986 and 1987—including those of a physician and a journalist who arrived at the plant shortly after the reactor explosion and a helicopter crew of Chernobyl liquidators who died in an aerial attempt to pour a decontaminating acetate mixture on a liquidator work area in October 1986—UNSCEAR revised the accident's immediate death toll to 54, acknowledging in the process that some groups assessing the same data place the number as low as 49 or as high as 59.

what is the difference between Russians and Ukrainians?

who is taller?
who is whiter, more blonde hair, more blue eyes?
which girls are better?

They still don't. Notice how nearly everyone says radiation and radioactivity as is they were interchangeable.

Unless you're stupid enough to post it in Russian on a popular website and sign with your name, you'll be fine. 100% of these cases are when some dickhead reports you to police or goes to court. No one's gonna look through every post on Yea Forums, they have enough work.

Shit you're right I was thinking of resupply sorry.

It really is fucking Soyuz.

Man humanity is fucking retarded.

try doing hard physical labour for several consecutive hours in a 50°C extra-dusty environment, and see if you don't drop a few layers of clothes.

Russian space tech still running on Soviet steam. And it starts to blow off. Crashes, loss of foreing orders. The specialists are mostly in their 60s, having salaries less than a cashier in Starbucks. China will compete with Russia soon, if not now.

I still don't understand why you call trannies and coйboys commies, in the USSR any tranny would be cured by turning into a potato via chemicals and electrocuting.

That's the whole point of ITER.

hence why I said "far" future.
a closer future would be upgrading massively to gen IV power plants and/or solving the technical and industrial challenges of molten salt reactors.

I don't get it either.

I get the impression there's a lot of dumb people who don't understand the political spectrum and just assume liberal = left & conservative = right.

Japan?

Yep, Ukrainians were the guys sent to die like zooper doopers in Finland.

Trucks are the leading cause of death in Japan in anime.

Ukraine joined the nazis

I never said the future was easy to reach, nor affordable, but it is the future of energy production. Coal is the past, and solar/wind/geothermal/hydro are dead-ends (for different reasons)

Fuck off, we free him form gulag solely for casting the miners chief who is 95% lookalike of the real guy.

They filled the coffins with an iodine based paste to contain the radiation.

How has /RBMK/ stayed so free of anti-Semitism? Even other Chernobyl threads can’t avoid it.

If you want to replace all of the coal power plants you need every rooftop and more not to mention energy storage in every building. Being decentralized also makes it much more difficult to harden to natural disasters.

Attached: 001.jpg (2048x1668, 425K)

Solar energy is pretty useless without a lot of sunlight, it might work in Arizona but not in the UK

Thanks

...

so what is theoretically the worst case scenario for an nuclear reactor accident?

From Alexievich's book, Lusya said that Vasily's feet were so swollen, they were like huge bombs. No shoes would fit. His uniform barely fit, they had to cut it.

Attached: Y61AaiS.png (3000x1762, 873K)

Becasuse we don't hate jews for being jews. Also , there are no jews in the show

She's cute here, and she was super cute in Taboo. C-U-T-E!

That guy is an outlier, and the replies show it.

Ah, I forgot about that detail.

The woman went full retard, after warnings that dont touch and go near ofcourse she does that. Fucking stupid cunt, hope she pays the price.

>An entire country erased
What are you even talking about?

Is this grave of any historical importance, it obviously predates chernobyl by three years but it seems to take centre shot, leadign me to think it is of some cultural importance etc

Attached: Capture.jpg (453x476, 30K)

>minister of coal industry
>called "Shadow"
Now that's just lazy writing.

poisoning the water table

No, my fear is stronger than yours because I have a more sensitive emotional registrar.

lol

I'm trying to wrap my head around where the characters were standing. One of the characters emerges from a door near those orange tanks in the bottom left/right, correct? And core-chan has fallen down and is resting on those green spikes? Or has she fallen even further and is sitting in a hole beneath those green spikes?

Complete meltdown. Or something like what was prevented in Chernobyl - thermal vapor explosion, tearing the core apart and throwing the fuel high into the atmosphere.

Legasov already described it, if the melting core both exploded the water tanks and hit the water table it would've rendered Belarus and Ukraine uninhabitable and fucked up the rest of Europe pretty bad too.

some diagrams I've been compiling

Her husband had terrible swollen feet from the radiation his shoes could not fit anymore. It's true to the real life story

No people found by this name, Cтyпчaк Иpинa Hикoлaeвнa. I think it's just an actual grave that happened to get into the camera.

>Being decentralized also makes it much more difficult to harden to natural disasters.

The opposite is true. Natural disasters specific to a centralised system take out everything. That is why decentralisation is critical in areas prone to such disasters, and why decentralisation of power and off grid are a natural adaption in disaster struck areas.

Energy storage in every building is perfectly possible, despite it not being strictly necessary. People are weird about renewables.

>hope she pays the price.
her kid is born pic related

Attached: images.jpg (276x183, 10K)

Maybe it was to show a graveyard and then move away from it to show the special spot and how the radioactive lads can't even be buried properly.

Meanwhile, at the Temple of Doom (The Directorate of Agriculture)

How come Dyatlov was shown in hospital to be burnt (and told the woman to fuck off) but next episode he's shown to be fine?

It's more like Shchadov. He looked like this, wasn't a young suit dude cast in the series.

Attached: Щадов.jpg (189x249, 6K)

those orange pumps you can see here exposed and in various scenes, they are semi buried in the rubble and have blue cyrilic markings

Attached: 055-bBVvGVM.jpg (1600x900, 218K)

Was Legasov really such a madlad? What's the most interesting or unbelievable thing in the show that is actually close to reality?

Probably a timeskip I imagine.

I was told that a fetus absorbing radiation from the mother is common. But I haven't looked it up to confirm yet.

There are different worst case scenarios depending of what kind of reactor it is. Meltdows are much better than what happened at chernobyl. In typical meltdows there isnt any release to the atmosphere

nice model, i get goosebumbs

lets be serious, in real life she would be freaking out at the sight of him, sobbing, crying, or wanting to get away far as fuck as possible

Shes holding his shoes because they couldn't bury him with them on due to how much his corpse was swelling up at the time of his death.. Let me pull you the quote that both these characters are essentially based on..

"At the morgue they said, "Want to see what we'll dress him in?" I do! They dressed him up in formal wear, with his service cap. They couldn't get shoes on him because his feet had swelled up. They had to cut up the formal wear, too, because they couldn't get it on him, there wasn't a whole body to put it on. (...) They buried him barefoot. Right before my eyes—in his formal wear—they just took him and put him in that cellophane bag of theirs and tied it up. And then they put this bag in the wooden coffin. And they tied the coffin with another bag. The plastic is transparent, but thick, like a tablecloth. And then they put all that into a zinc coffin. They squeezed it in. Only the cap didn't fit. (Voices of Chernobyl)"

Attached: IMG_0643.jpg (4032x3024, 2.08M)

She was a real person user and really did take care of him up until he died.

I’m easily terrified, but I was too psyched about how accurately the science was depicted to be anything beyond unnerved.

Also Dyatlov vomiting was hilarious in a very non-horror movie comedy way.

>Legasov

Honestly a pretty good guy and if he'd just lived we'd know a fuckload more about what went on and the world would be a safer place.

He looks scarier than the dude that played literal Satan in Master and Margarita

>intermittent, so they need huge storage capabilities that aren't even solved yet (especially solar since peak electricity consumption happens by night)
>poor energy efficiency compared to even coal, let alone nuclear
>location-dependent, not all inhabited areas are suitable for those energy sources
>raw materials hungry, we'll run out of those before we have enough solar/wind hardware to sustain our current consumption (not even accounting for projections with the emergence of third world countries, nor the fact that those hardware have limited lifespans and need even more raw materials for replacement)
>not that green when you take into account the environmental impact of the extraction of said raw materials
>real-estate hungry, and disgraceful

i doubt it, she was probably histerical

When you love someone who’s seriously ill, it’s easy to look past what’s actually happening to them.

I’m guessing you’re fairly young.

the show is too smart for /pol/

Not OP but my gf is from that region so I'm weighing in. The Transcarpathian Ukraine is a melting pot of different cultures and languages; roadsigns are in about five different tongues and the language changes every block. Some people speak Hungarian, some people speak Ukrainian, some Romanian, some Slovak, and some more speak the minority indigenous languages like Wallachian and Rusyn (which are related to Romanian and Ukrainian, respectively). It's a quite and comfy part of the world where pretty much everybody gets along because they have long come to terms with their differences, kinda like an anti-Yugoslavia. It is de jure part of Ukraine but lots of people hold dual nationality with their language nation.

I kind of forgot about it

they might be viable solutions in very specific an local situations (say a farmer or a big factory with a lot of disposable real-estate / roof surface, who want to lower their energy bills), but on a large scale for providing a country's (or even a city's) electricity needs, they're complete non-starters

Solar actually works very well in the UK and modern solar panels are around 60-80% efficient in cloudy weather. What is limiting the market penetration of solar panels is the upfront technology costs and Government (HMG) policy. For a while HMG would subsidise domestic solar and you would actually be paid for the surplus you produced - so you'd be selling energy to the national grid - then the business environment changed and that was not profitable for HMG so subsidies ended. Their argument was that not enough homes had solar panels to justify the subsidies - but half of the UK is in AONBs and SSSIs (like myself) or listed buldings where we are barred from having solar panels, so the real killer of solar was HMG's own stupidity.

This is her husband and the soon-to-be-dead father of her (rip) unborn child.

"I never thought I'd see an RBMK reactor explode, let alone blow it up myself!"

>human patience is indefinite
>mammalian patience is indefinite
>the average human is more than just a sum of their endocrine system

He is below in the concrete ?

roof guy?

Of course you want to GTFO. That doesn’t make it easier to look at this dying person and not also see the healthy person you’d known so well. That lady didn’t see a ghoul lying in the hospital bed; she saw her husband with a ghoul mask on.

Love this Hitlerian brutalist art

It's different when it's your actualy husband or wife you fucking retarded brainlet

obviously you're not gonna feel as much love for an old deprecated grandparent shitting himself as you do to a 23 year old husband you love

you fucking retard

Must be

When your body is literally falling apart at the cellular level, things break

Mr. Hickey

no, that's in the country side. the metal heads are in Moscow

Depends on the place, Kharkov is like 200 km from the war zone and I only got my papers checked by a patrol once back in 2015 plus it's like 1.5% or so tax for the needs of the army. Economy went to shit though and dollar rose from 8 to 30 hryvna.

I strongly suspect there are man 30+ year olds in this thread

since his bowels won't be working to well, i don't think it's really poop as we know it

finally. you did him last on purpose

It's the same place. It's not countryside anymore, Moscow has expanded and reached beyond the cemetery. There's even a subway station near it now.

What is inside the kit ? Anons translate Pretty please

radiation is so fucking scary , especially the part where you seem okay/healed after a day and then you fucking melt

Older viewer base.

retard

This audience does seem to be on the older side. Apparently 25 is young here.

>They showed her to me—a girl. “Natashenka,” I called out. “Your father named you Natashenka.” She looked healthy. Arms, legs. But she had cirrhosis of the liver. Her liver had twenty-eight roentgen. Congenital heart disease. Four hours later they told me she was dead. And again: we won’t give her to you. What do you mean you won’t give her to me? It’s me who won’t give her to you! You want to take her for science. I hate your science! I hate it!

In Pripyat, the power plant was always a big thing. We did our tests, and then we made energy. Dyatlov did the prep work. He was doing a year for the state and he had this wonderful system for doing the uranium rods. He used to cut them so thin they'd liquify right in the core. Kodemchuk was in charge of the pumps. I felt he used too much feed water but it was still a great reactor. Akimov did the tests, we didn't have good equipment so he did everything off the book. He use to radiate the place something awful and workers used to die but he still tested a great reactor.
>Dyatlov, how do you like your core?
>open
>hmm open? a bureaucrat.

uggo girl said he pooped himself 7 times a day and she had to clean it.

gross

>newborn
>cirrhosis of the liver

Attached: concern.jpg (319x440, 73K)

and here's a more depressing thought
they may push the episode back a week because HBO hates releasing new episodes around holidays

>Apparently 25 is young here
Feels good to be young again

oh shit that's where I knew him from

So the bodies are close to the subway or they moved them ?

some goo came out of his butthole

Fun things is ITER is a test, then they will build an other bigger one, then they will build one that actually produce energy then they will build an other one to mass produce. See you in 100 years

Secret vodka and gauze

I LOVE YOU KAMA3-CHAN

none of this is true. that hospital was a special hospital dedicated to radiation, so just the fact they were brought there meant it was obviously radiation related and most people knew victims of Chernobyl were taken to that hospital it wasn't really much of a secret. Then she was also informed by the nurses about the radiation, what it will do to them and how they are now also contaminated and emitting radiation themselves therefore a health hazard. A nurse also asked her if she's pregnant and she lied so she could be with her husband.

that's why they picked an irish woman to play the kid's mother

Dyatlov died in 1995. He didn't serve his sentence in full and was released due to radiation disease. His grave place is not known.

Tbf you haven’t worked in the care of that brand of sick person. Even severe burn victims and late-stage cancer patients don’t look like they’ve been dead for weeks.

35.

Been on Yea Forums since 2005

AZ-5

What do you think the caloric maintenance would be for one of those miners?

fusion has been 50 years away for 50 years now :(

Waiting for the new thread to drop truth bombs about the hospital scenes in the episode.

That snot on your nose is gross ya little punk

>Rusyns are ancient Slavic people
>They never had their own state and dont want it really.
What is Kievan Rus'. Fucking retard.

>His grave place is not known.

literally the only bit of worthwhile justice.

but how amazing is it that those divers who signed up for death lived for so long, two of them possibly still alive?

2 liters of thick pure liquid protein per day

About 3000 Kcal

Tube syringe and pills.
The image is too low res to see what's written inside the kit.

bout tree fiddy

Double GOMAD + SS (shoveling slicates)

He was honored with a mountain pass named after him.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_Pass_incident

>When they brought me the little wooden box and said, "She's in there," I looked. She'd been cremated. She was ashes. And I started crying. "Put her at his feet," I requested. There, at the cemetery, it doesn't say Natasha Ignatenko. There's only his name.

Yes i've just been reading about the high profile Novodevichy Cemetery, that is where Legasov is buried

3000 is nothing it's the average

the real answer is somewhere in the gasmask wiki. Yes there is a gasmask wiki.

There you will find comprehensive data that the poor motherfuckers sent in with gp-5 filters into Chernobyl were breathing in asbestos.

if you are a shart yes

>tfw know Ukrainian and don't know Polish but understand the filename

did the water actually shielded them from most radiation or was it just pure fucking luck they just didnt drop dead ?

It’s 15,000 kilojoules

Retard. Pycины never had their own state. At least read the fucking wiki.

Been there the day before yesterday.
Legasov's grave.

Attached: legasov_va.jpg (1600x1200, 387K)

underrated

Both. They were lucky the water wasn’t badly contaminated like with Akimov and that skinny comrade.

That is a fucking outright lie. She would not be able to bury anyone without a tablet with their name. It's against Soviet law.

Ignatenko's death was pointless, right? Spraying water into the exposed core achieved nothing.

no

Column A and column B and the fact that their equipment was actually not shit and they washed properly afterwards.

There's a lot to be said for actually doing the right precautions.

>Spraying water into the exposed core achieved nothing.
it actually made things worse.

3.6k

Some user said they actually drained the water before they went in, but this way looks much cooler on the show

No, it was not. They were not pumping water into the core you retard. They mostly got huge gamma radiation exposure because they were searching for auxiliry fires.

guys what about the byelobyl catastrophe?

What's byelobyl? Does it produce Ligma?

There was nothing sane about Chernobyl. MADNESS.

For a 40 y.o. man who weights 200lbs and does hard manual labor calculator says it's 3500, but this is a very hard work so I guess at least 4000 would be needed

Cool nice pic looks like someone put a fresh flower there too, cemeterys are great to walk around

>Core-chan statue

At least they finally could eat meat every day which was hard to buy for a simple miner.

Lenin was a mushroom

it met the same fate as chernorus

how proud he would be of all of us tonight

suiciders get a proper burial, orthodox allows that?

Boris "Based Party Man" Scherbina's grave, near Legasov's.

Attached: scherbina_be.jpg (1596x1329, 494K)

The Soviet Union's main power source was coal, those miners had the most power of any workers

Miners were pretty priviliged guys, getting at least those 400 rubles.

Heroes get a proper burial.

Back then it was Soviet times, religion was told to fuck off.

Wrong Dyatlov

>Orthodox christianity
>1988
Yeah sure.

The entire area around the core was burning, they extinguished all the fires except for the core itself. If they didn't do that then the core no. 3 could be in danger too.

You’re delusional.

F F F F Fucking F

Putin is a crab

Only before WW2.

...

400 was a lot ?

they don't get the ortodox related burial ritual, no idea whats it called in english
other than that they get a normal grave and shit

I couldn't find what he actually died of, was it radiation related disease?

It was QUITE a lot. Average salary for office workers was 120 rubles.

Still, until the very end of USSR religion was marginalized. You couldn't get even a minor career in the Party if you were openly observing Orthodox rites.

youre retarded

I didn't know this one!

You can learn from us, and we can learn from you

Attached: hqdefault-277.jpg (480x360, 35K)

Man was 71 by that time, well above average life expectancy for Soviet men.

Probably because it has been posted to exhaustion already.

Дoвepяй but verify!

NEW PROPER BREAD

You should tell that to all the snowflakes that support communism today.
