Season I is absolute pure kino, Season 2 is kinda forgettable but has good battles, Season 3 has a lot of pointless edge but is worth it for the latter half.

It’s good stuff user. GF and I started watching it in between episodes of final season of GOT. I get the action, GF gets main character falling in love with like 7 different women, and just enough likely and backstabbing to keep it interesting. Enjoying it so far and plan to finish it.

The original fantasy books owe a lot to literature as such, and it's a pretty common literary trope to have your hero be an insufferable dilettante floundering through life (think Wilhelm Meister). I don't quite see him as a Mary Sue, though, because he fucks up all the time.
