WE LIVE INSIDE A DREAM

Two years have passed and my opinion of season 3 has not lowered. I'm so thankful that we got it, and I'm so happy that it was different and explored new things. It felt worthwhile, there's so many iconic and memorable moments that I took away from it, it's the first time ever that a revival has felt like it added something meaningful to a series.

Dougie is forever.

that’s because he almost said something positive about Trump, who stole the election from Hilldenberg, with the help of the Left’s arch-enemy, formerly greatest ally, Russia. Clearly the artistic genius of Lynch couldn’t hold a candle to Black Panther.

FACES OF STONE

Season 3 was fucking hilarious as well, I laughed so many times and so hard throughout season 3, it had that magic mix of horror, tension, drama, comedy that Lynch is so good at.

I laughed so hard at every scene with Audrey and her husband.

Does it have spooky jumpscares? I'm too scared to watch it after Mulholland Drive

Whenever I drink black coffee I will always think of Dougie Jones.

MR JACKPOTS

No, but there are sequences that are genuinely unsettling.

DUDE COFFEe LMAO
Watched the first season and up to ep. 14 of season 2 in barely more than a week. Then in the last 2 weeks I've only seen the 15th one. It's fucking awful. Anything besides the Cooper plot is a drag. Who the fuck cares? Also, will there be "a point" to the "paranormal" or whatever the fuck events? It doesn't make any sense so far.

This scene is a fucking masterpiece. It went on so much longer than I expected, and when I felt like it would finally end it JUST KEPT ON GOING. I went from disturbed, to amused, to dying laughing, and then back to disturbed. Total rollercoaster.

It will literally haunt you in your dreams. I had several nightmares after the finale.

>David Lynch
>a point
His whole shtick is presenting a series of sounds and images designed to illicit a specific emotional response, even if that response is indescribable. There is not a single film that Lynch has made that is deep or has a hidden meaning.

Yeah, I agree. One of the best scenes in all of Season 3, and not to mention it is in the GOAT Part 11, that entire episode really was a fucking 10/10.

>the entire scene in the restaurant with Dougie, the Mitchums, and the casino lady
Easily one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. Maybe in television as a whole.

Dougie unironically made me happier, I don't know that a character has ever just put me in such a good mood like he did. I still just feel warm rewatching those scenes.

the Las Vegas storyline truly was blessed.

Attached: dougie-friend.jpg (1920x1080, 191K)

welp time to rewatch season 3 for the first time

Dougie was too pure for this world. Has anyone been to the casino where the "HELLLOOO" scene was filmed? I was planning on making a pilgrimage there later this year.

Agreed. The Las Vegas storyline felt the most inspired out of them all. I loved most of season 3, but to me Las Vegas was for sure the best ones, all the new characters introduced, the warm and wholesomeness of it all, the clever way in which it celebrated the past of Twin Peaks with coffee and cherry pies without it feeling like pandering and retreading the same ground as before.

Attached: coop and bushnell.jpg (1920x1080, 187K)

>the casino lady

that was beautiful

New season was inspired by Breaking Bad. It was so much cringe and reddit. Aside from the few experimental episodes it had totally lost it's unique/bizareness that it had in the original seasons.

Where to begin with his filmography?

Fuck you, user.

I blame the shitty and miscast new actors. James Belushi and the other guy were great

I blame you being a pleb

Don't pretend you can even name half the characters in that season without looking them up.

Watch them in release order, its the only proper way. Its very interesting to see how he evolves as a filmmaker, and how is priorities when it comes to presentation shift.

>inspired by breaking bad
Yeah it was 'inspired' by that. The same way S1 and 2 were 'inspired' by shitty soap operas of the time. In other words a subversion and distancing from the popular trends of television at the time to create sublime art.

There is no explanation. Lynch doesnt hide meaning in is work. He just wants you to feel a certain way.

Coop fucked up.

But what was the stuff with Richard? Why did Sarah disappear? Who was Judy?

>Lynch doesnt hide meaning in is work
I disagree. I didn't care enough to 'get' the Return but there's a clear intent in most his films.

Claiming Sandie.

Attached: Sandie2.jpg (2600x1733, 567K)

My understanding is that Coop ended up in a different universe because he fucked with time and lost part of his own identity.

It was a waste of time. Like, literally, the actual story didn't need 18 episodes at all, especially all the Dougie crap. The sheer amount of time Cole got made it feel like Lynch was jerking off to himself.

The major players from the original show were barely used. Audrey essentially had one scene split up over 4 or so episodes. Ben was basically a cameo. Doc Hayward had a single skype scene, Donna never appeared and its not like Lynch didn't recast the character in FWWM anyway. Maybe this wouldn't feel so bad if Ontkean didn't retire, but the lack of Truman really hurt the show for me. Shit, even Norma and Ed finally getting together kinda feels like out of nowhere with Nadine just realizing she's been a bitch after flirting with Jacoby's show.

I know some faggot is gonna respond with "LYNCHED" but how anyone can defend a green gloved faggot bong beating up a ball jpg of Bob is beyond me. You're seriously going to tell me that was worth a 25 year wait?

And I gotta say, I really hated how they barely used music except for those Bang Bang Bar scenes. It really made things feel drawn out.

Attached: No Sir I Dont Like It.gif (350x262, 2.56M)

And you just have to read the apologists here. They have nothing to say but memes. It's just circlejerking.

My favorite show of the decade, no joke. I miss the peaks posting every Sunday night.

A lot of it was redundant but there were some really great moments in the season. When it was coming out weekly some of the long throw-away scenes were incredibly frustrating because you could just feel the runtime of the episode slipping away knowing you'd have to wait another week for something to actually happen. I enjoyed the season as a whole though, if it didn't have such a satisfying ending I might have disliked it.

yeah the ending was great

Would you describe this scene as Lynchian?

Currently rewatching season 3 with a cutie girl. It's so good that I want to cry. Was true to the spirit of the original series while still being new and not pandering. To me it's the perfect culmination of everything that is David Lynch.

Has anyone seen the Lynch Master Class? Is it worth it or just a shekel grab?

Should I bother watching Twin Peaks? I've been sorta ambivalent over the similar Lynch films I've seen (Blue Velvet, Mullholand Drive) so would I even like this show?

Attached: aTgk.jpg (750x594, 61K)

>Has anyone seen the Lynch Master Class? Is it worth it or just a shekel grab?

I have not, but even as a huge Lynch fan I wouldn't bother with it. The guy is famously cryptic/reserved and has like 10 lines and phrases he always repeats in every interview/for certain questions about his work and process. I find it hard to believe it isn't just rehashing stuff like Catching the Big Fish.

i'd love for one of you lynchedfags to try to defend return's abysmal pacing instead of deflecting or saying it's shit on purpose. it didn't need to be anywhere near 18 episodes. tons of good stuff in there, but overall i'd say it's one of lynch's weaker works

N

Is "The Missing Pieces" worth watching?
I love FWWM but still haven't seen them.

PLEASE RESPOND

keep going samefag, maybe you'll fit in someday

Definitely, I'd say they're meant to be watched as a pair. There are scenes in the base film that make little sense without the context of the missing pieces. My personal favorite way to watch it is a fan edit that combines them, although its over three hours long.

It's one of the best TV shows of all time, so yes. But be warned: it really isn't for everyone. If you like smooth narratives and things making sense 100% of the time, it's not going to be easy.

Return was such a step down from the original, I'm appalled that there are so many anons praising it. Am I being memed?

>tfw will never relive watching The Return the night it premiered with Yea Forums and seeing Agent Cooper escape the Black Lodge into Dougie's body
His return at the end of the season was amazing.

Got the name of that fan edit by chance?
I'd love to check it out.

q2 edit

he's gonna make some new kino soon, r-right?

Attached: dl @ netflix.jpg (960x960, 67K)

i think its way better, the original is somewhat hampered by mark frost having a bit more power and the section of season 2 where lynch leaves has some atrocious plotlines (i cant stand that fucking james and evelyn plot and stuff like super-nadine and howie and his wife i can barely even remember it was so boring)

>the return is a step down from the evelyn marsh subplot

>replied in less than a minute
also dude very uncouth of you to suggest an edit not endorsed by LYNCH. you do wanna get LYNCHED right?

though that said Windom Earle is inquestionably the best part of season two, simply because what enshrouds the Deleuzian representation of negation in “The Black Lodge” is by nature (W)indom (E)arle. We, the pure ample aspiration, the capital v-Viewer are held fantastically in a grip of pleasure as "solicitude", certainty as “knowingness” and “The Black Lodge” as ontological blockchain/godhead. TMFAP is absolute fact in opposition but the baroque villainy of WE's (and any Lovecraftian) the same sin to die “now” as on the path to Madness. The conditional “It” (DC) creates nothing in response, Earle's own humanity is reflected in his oeuvre of disguise-personalities. (performed) To WE (& the normative Cooper &Briggs) the Implacability of unsure sentiment is Earle’s selfenforcing principle, pleasure--simplicity. In Palmer, the reprised intelligences move towards psychosomatic transgression. WE's sickness is symptom & myth unlike the Palmer daughter his active agent is not important, but “normal” and yet pronouncedly considerable as such, bidding. “We a the, of not can he.” The subject of Earle is in an undiluted terrace viewed viewers become wrote wonders, noting nothing Indian anyhow in the Black Lodge (negation).

Then, there’s Earle, the something coupling with Lodge entities, (call it “force”, of what? of course: illusion. – by since And because of supremacy In ALL perceptions, (rare & cloistered the issue may be) what we then Now view as reality, IS,) [in WE's] subjection a full picture. In an open letter to Kenneth Welsh “Windom Earle” one asks to which if not to want introduction (Mark Frost) gigantic of up wrote run life, (MF) introduction, revelation, dreams, & value system, (MF,MF,DL,MF) ie. AS Windom Earle hAS in the Black Lodge. (the rudimentary transition in S2 of Windom A into form Windom B.) There was some sort of excitement I had watching it that nothing else has matched since. Just knowing that anything could happen in the show without it having to pander to viewer expectations or creative limits.

I doubt anything like it will come along anytime soon. It's hard to picture a network giving someone total creative control on a budget like this again.

Yikes dude

I don't know. I feel like it has to do with her telling him he only exists in a dream. Maybe like the events of Twin Peaks are an elaborate coping mechanism for Laura. Like she never died, only dreamed about it for escapism. In part 18 Cooper breaks out of the dream and sees this real world where she kept on living, carrying the baggage of being an incest victim.

this, chet's arc is one of my favorite of the entire series

Should I rewatch it all?

Audrey is the dreamer. Coop is literally the man of her dreams and Audrey's Dance has been a motif since episode 1.

I watched the Q2 edit that put the deleted scenes in the movie. Great shit. I can't watch the theatrical cut anymore.

I love how Returnfags never have counterpoints.

if you don't actually watch TV and are actually deep into film then it's amazing how bland the return feels

>It's hard to picture a network giving someone total creative control on a budget like this again.

yeah, possibly BECAUSE of this with its overblown lethargic pacing... remember when lynch threw a fit because he wanted 18 episodes instead of 12 or whatever? how well did that turn out? now we can have minutes long shots of robert forster looking befuddled in poorly designed sets with static camerawork! so deep dude, fucking LYNCHED

There's no argument to counter. You faggots wanted fanservice and were too stupid to notice it whenever it did happen. That's all it ever is. Fuck off.

No. You said it was lethargic, but I didn't hear why that was bad. I appreciated the slower pace.

>all these asshats praising Return
S3 Took suspension of disbelief and threw it in the dumpster. With non functional cooper and blatant supernatural overtones being the biggest offenders. Not to mention the lack of unifying themes, fraying sidescenes, and overly long shots displaying both flaws that demonstrated the productions inability to capture the atmosphere of the original.

You fucked up when you said the Dougie scenes were bad. Nobody worth speaking to is ever going to agree with you on that and will rightfully disregard your post. It's like angrily yelling that homemade cherry pie is shit and then seething whenever everybody thinks you're retarded.
In short, you outed yourself as a pleb and I'm doing you a favor spending this many words on the last (You) I'm willing to spare.

I don't have to prove a negative, "why it's not bad". You're the one who claimed it was bad and are failing to defend your arguments. You even acknowledge some of the benefits those scenes brought.

There was a lot of tension in every slow scene for me. You knew something fucked was probably gonna happen and you weren't sure when or even if it was gonna happen at the end of that scene. It made the moments were shit went down hit all the harder. I was on the edge of my seat.

>two years later fags are still LYNCHED

Attached: 1549329610699.gif (200x234, 2.85M)

i just explained why i think the pacing is poor. stop being so defensive of your own sensibilities and actually try to defend the show you love so much objectively. you don't need to prove a negative, right? so it's objectively good? i'm saying it has tons of filler and didn't need to be nearly 18 episodes. and you say?

so much wasted potential

>tons of filler
What is 'filler' is not subjective. None of it was. All of it contributed to the main themes, mood and immersion. Do you only care about the surface plot in your media?

>should we expand on the owls, the gov monitoring programs, any of this interesting lore?
>nah, let's do an arc with a old roasty with super strength and amnesia!
Bravo Lynch. I tried to like S2, really.

yeah, some people are familiar with lynch's works beyond twin peaks. some people are also aware of cinema beyond lynch. you can't just say it's good because it is.

>it didn't need to be anywhere near 18 episodes.
Sadly, agreed. Had it been 12-13 episodes I think it would have surpassed season 1. Still better than season 2, which isn't saying too much.
>but overall i'd say it's one of lynch's weaker works
Hmm, I definitely would rate some of his movies Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, FWWM above it. Don't think it was weaker than say Lost Highway though.

reminder that fire is coming

it's almost like he didn't do S2...

The pacing provided a sense of tension and uncertainty, especially on a first viewing. You knew from experience that something insane was bound to happen and the anticipation was like a knife twisting in your gut. At one point I was even a little relieved when something didn't happen, and whenever something did it was as visceral or even more visceral than I was hoping for. Many of these slow moments were also visually appealing to me and others, the White Lodge in part 8 easily comes to mind.
Then there was the comfiness that permeated Vegas of all places. The Mitchum brothers were genuinely likable, Dougie and his family were purity incarnate and a demonstration of the beauty of things sometimes just working out. Meanwhile the atmospheric corruption of Twin Peaks was palpable and lent to an incredibly uncomfortable feel. The Return was a masterpiece of atmosphere.

You say this a lot but it really doesn't mean shit aside from dickwaving.

>the second hand was pulling off a second mask
Fuck never realized.

DEFEND IT THEN

at least this dude tried, thank you for that, asking a returnfag what they actually liked about the show is like pulling teeth.
i didn't get any of that though, i thought most of the editing was painfully obvious, only exacerbated by how elongated nearly every scene was.

jfc i'm not trying to tell you people you're wrong for liking it, you've just been telling everyone for years how they're wrong for disliking any aspect of it

Basically agree. My big issue with the show is it's not really Twin Peaks season 3, but David Lynch having complete control of Twin Peaks' world 25 years after he left and changed as a filmmaker. The quirk of TP just wasn't there.

Pros:
>Andy, Lucy and Wally were perfect
>the woodsmen
>the development of Bobby Briggs was fantastic and his family issues were compelling
>some scenes with Mr. C, like the arm wrestling were great
>some of the little moments like retard Cooper drinking coffee like a baby bottle
>the Laura final scene was pure kino

Cons:
>the entire story here could have been told in 10 episodes at absolute most
>Audrey was done dirty. While it is kinda interesting what Lynch is implying about her, she was a major part of the appeal of the original show and finding her divorced from the rest of the town and not developing into the Horne running the town is very disappointing
>horrible acting from most of the newcomers, especially Audrey's rape baby
>the scene of everyone standing around the run over child is the absolute low of all three seasons, yes James' affair subplot is better than that shit
>Ben Horne was reduced to a romantic subplot despite still basically running the town
>a ridiculous amount of time wasted on Las Vegas, which should have wrapped in a few episodes and on the FBI members, even though that is relevant, so it's somewhat acceptable
>far too many redundant vision sequences
>hilariously bad effects that should have nothing but HAHAHAH memes associated with them, but the Lynchfags want to pretend they're brilliant

By the time I was finished, I felt like I watched a really long student fanfilm. When I look back on this season, what comes to me is how dreadfully long everything felt.

/tpg/ was a blast, and it’s awesome how many anons in this thread look back so fondly at the season and the threads.
I’ll never forget how I became extremely sick for about a week from food poisoning while the return was running. I had to go to the hospital at one point and was a bed ridden delirious mess when I got home, just in time to watch ep8. What a fucking ride

If you didn't see it that way that's on you. The show's never been meant for everybody, but when it works it hits like a mack truck.
>i'm not trying to tell you people you're wrong for liking it
Maybe not but from the replies you've been getting you're giving off clear impressions that you are. Change your approach if you want a different reaction.

yeah, i liked a lot of it. not nearly enough for 18 episodes though. i think it's overly long. saying it's not for anybody is nonsensical, as you're defending it right now. and why was it picked up by showtime? how does it compare to lynch's other works? are they also not for anyone? one more thing, i'm pretty positive most of my replies are from you. it's weird watching someone act like this

>saying it's not for anybody is nonsensical
I didn't say it wasn't for anybody--that's the same as saying that it's for nobody--I said that it wasn't for everyone. There who don't understand or appreciate it. This isn't even a wild claim; it applies to literally everything. I can show you a person who doesn't like air and would rather not breathe it.
If you think it's overly long that's entirely on you. I liked the pacing, and I'm not the only one, and I've explained why I liked it. It's also likely why Showtime also ended up liking it.
As for how it holds up to Lynch's other works, for me, that's a bit tricky. Lynch, whether he means to or not, has a very Zappa-like project/object approach to filmmaking. They're all very thematically similar and usually support each others' points and approaches. Twin Peaks is to be taken as a whole, from the pilot to the season 3 finale and everything in between (retroactively including some of the parts where Lynch left.) This means I see The Return as another or even the final piece of a previously unfinished work, and ultimately love the enitre 25 year project and consider it a flawed masterwork. Forcing myself to see The Return as a standalone, I like it a little less than Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, and Lost Highway, and consider it on par with Mulholland Dr (which I consider a bit overrated since I would rather have had the series it was originally going to be), Inland Empire, Wild at Heart, and Straight Story.
>i'm pretty positive most of my replies are from you
Hate to break it to you but you're wrong here. I've only been lurking until I posted .

>There who don't understand or appreciate it.
lol fucked that sentence up.
>There are gonna be people who don't understand or appreciate it.*

then you were cool from the beginning to me, i liked that post. i might not agree with you, but at least you can back your shit up. thank you, sincerely. you're not a retard for loving it, and i'm not a retard for only liking pieces of it, right? i agree 100% with you calling it a flawed masterwork, but for probably completely different reasons. i am going to leave this thread now with my head high and my heart singing. i love all of you, even if you hate me and/or my opinions. peace be upon you all

lol it's cool man. Have a good night.

Threadly reminder that Dougie Jones is the greatest character in all of fiction, and we can all learn something from him.
He's not just a love letter to Jacques Tati, he is exactly what every human should strive to be. Both Cooper and Mister C are misguided in their own ways. Mister C means to directly harm the world. And Cooper does anything to fix it, boyscout that he is.
Both paths lead to suffering. Trying to fix that which you cannot is just as painful as anything.
Only Dougie, through inaction and observance leads himself and others to true happiness.

It goes a little past that, too. Dougie does help when he can, and instinctively knows when he can. Coop tries to save the world and Mr. C tries to destroy it, no doubt there. Dougie helps, but in small, meaningful doses.

It truly was an amazing thing to watch live. The threads were amazing, but its a bummer I bowed out because of possible leaks.

The pay off of Coop was pure. I was near tears of happiness. It was perfect in its own way. Id love to talk about it with friends, but its a show I dont think Id EVER recommend because of how strange it is.

Attached: 9b2992d93a3747b2737b3f76b1590d7e.png (506x295, 146K)

What I loved was that the leaks weren't real.

Why didn't I care for bimbo lesbo naked Naomi in Mulholland drive but got titanium hard for mommy Naomi in the return
That scene where she's getting horny is far more erotic to me than the lesbo sex scene

>ywn fuck mommy Naomi Watts
I need to die

I like how the last few episode synopses really did leak, and still nobody got spoiled.
Apart from maybe LOST, I can't think of a single show where that could happen. If that doesn't say something about S3, I don't know what could.

Attached: 1502760172493(3).png (1914x1181, 572K)

Oh fuck I forgot about that. Just small plot synopses were the best they could do.
Meanwhile...

I loved Vedderposting and don't regret starting that. I miss the threads :'(

But they got the wrong song. It's the song from the premiere from the Chromatics that gives away the end.

>finding out vedder's song was about audrey the whole time
I can think of few moments in TV history where I've been so absolutely floored.

Lynch was fucking hilarious that whole season. Actually figured out I do a great David Lynch impression because I would just repeat his lines from the season.

>Lynch is jungle fever patrichian
Based.

>I doubt anything like it will come along anytime soon
>Returnfags oblivious again to anything that isn't Lynch
Too Old To Die Young is coming out in a month and doesn't look very good.

It'll be its own thing. If I end up associating it with Lynch it won't be a positive comparison.

Is this future or is it past?

There's behind the scenes footage of Lynch raging because he wasn't being given enough time to figure out that specific scene.

Belushi just needs a good director like Lynch in charge of him to bring on some kino.

Belushi's actually really good when he's being serious; he's just very fucking rarely in non-comedic roles.

It's 10+ hours of an unfiltered auteur filled with stupid shit like Miles Teller protagonist and Hideo Kojima. It will be the exact same.

Can't wait to watch it again with my new cutie gf, she hasn't seen it.

Twin peaks was always the emperors new clothes of Yea Forums

I'm a massive fan of the original series and FWWM. I watched a few episodes of the S3 run, wasn't massively happy with it and then life got in the way and I never bothered following up on it, or following the threads because of spoilers.

Is it actually worth it, or is it some shitty meme?

SHE IS SICK!

Do you think you can explain the merits of a show to those who do not see them? I can find the best and clearest words to explain my meaning, and I have spoken to the most intelligent people about art, and they have not understood, but among people who understand, words are not necessary, you say "LYNCHED", and everything has been said.

mike's poem is about a man desiring the ability to be a family man and a bachelor, intuitive but naive. Dougie achieves that, and it's only through excessive conscious thought does Dale ruin it, the whole show is essentially about a man in denial for how long hes been a salaryman and tries to escape to his lost love of 25 years (diane, linda, twin peaks)

>Do you think you can explain the merits of a show to those who do not see them?

still get goosebumps

I had absolutely no idea what was happening this entire season.

I wish I had a Naomi gf.

That whole scene leads me to believe that Twin Peaks in its entirely is Audrey's dream. Cooper being the man of her dreams helps that. Laura could be a symbol of whatever she's actually going through.

Will this song ever be topped?

What a great way to start the whole sequence.

I feel like Dougie might have had a prototype in One Saliva Bubble, but I haven't read that script yet.
Conceptually a town full of people just instantly swapping bodies with each other one day is a great fucking idea for a show and it sucks that they never got to film it.

looks french to me

Im watching Dune right now is this the same guy as Paul

Yes. By the way, Lynch directed Dune

lmao

Yeah i saw that when the movie started. Where the fuck did Piccard go and why is there so much inner monologuing? Also heartplugs are a great idea.

A stupid retarded character until the last episode...fucking dumb as all fuck...

lol

i take it that you gave him the ol´ "wrong brother died" rutine as usual?

>Lynch doesnt hide meaning in is work.
twin peak might not have any "hidden meaning" but there is a coherent story being told that most if not all people who watch it have a problem following

this dude was obviously some kind of fagment of cooper that wanted to protect audrey

Attached: 1555606223925.png (949x928, 1.05M)

The bravest show on TV bar none. The idea of subverting expectations has been playing on my mind due to GoT fags but I can faithfully say that this genuinely didn’t feel that cheap. Rather than subvert it reimagined and went in new unknown directions. The greatest time I had with a TV show ever.

It could have been a 10/10 show, if it wasn't for fucking green glove guy, shitty special effects and fucking Michael Cera.
And before some faggot tells me that those special effects are just Lynch aesthetics and that I should watch his short movies to get it, fuck you because I watched them all and most of them are shit.

looks like another capeshit/shitwars/Game of Reddit Yea Forumsedditor got LYNCHED

Fuck you you constantly buzzwords repeating retard with no reading comprehension, I liked it.

been re watching lately. the thing that struck me the most is there is literally zero filler scenes. every scene is a meticulously crafted work of art. it's astounding. the best thing you can do is forget about the plot altogether and just experience each scene as it's independent piece of art

>OW

what does this mean?

>if it wasn't for fucking green glove guy

His whole presence is a parody of shitty deus ex machina characters. In fact, Twin Peaks is filled with satire of modern tv, with a lot of tropes and cliches being parodied or played with.
