I don't understand.
Jon became Lord Commander of the Watch or he became Free Folk at the end?

He deserted immediately to go be King Beyond the Wall with his pal and doggo.
Officially, he's a member of a Night's Watch, that doesn't effectively exist at this point. So he can ride north to live with the Wildlings and the Unsullied will never know or being able to do a damn thing about it.

You will when you start seeing ads for "Snow & Ghost" on HBO
it's up for interpretation(tm)
you can see it as him ranging and just hanging around the wildlings or becoming a wildling himself. I think he is just hanging out because he is still wearing Night's Watch clothes and I doubt he'll break this vow
Nights watch vows are meaningless. Sam Tarly gets to run his house and have kids with Gilly now.
He got exiled to the Night's Watch but he realised that there's literally no reason for the Night's Watch to exist anymore since the White Walkers are gone and the Wildlings aren't hostile any more. No-one told him that Greyworm (the only person in the world that wants him dead) has fucked off for good so he just decided to live a comfy life North of the Wall with his dog and his bro Tormund.
Why does he like the far North so much? It doesn't look comfy. Does it bring him memories of Ygritte or something?
pretty sure there is no NW and the whole thing was orchestrated to convince Grey Worm to free Jon. The men in black were actors.
Should have just sunk the dickless warriors ships as they left the port.
