Xth for MINECRAFT

So is radioactive material really like bullets?

THREAD THEME
youtu.be/qkTRamZ0PsQ

is like a million billion trillion boolets

I hear that this series is getting glowing reviews.

>I'm pregnant
>uhh this is awkward
Seriously didn't expect the show to go there.

Legasov got wrecked by the miner. They're even from the same town.

There is a regular here from /trek/ who is a girl with a secret.

This is indeed HBO's time to shine.

>that fucking explanation of what will happen if the water in the tanks explode

fucking christ we really dodged a bullet on that one

I can't wait for the prequel series: Kyshtym.

Of course. In fact, they make nuclear plants out of bullets.

More like a bullet cartridge with the bullet still inside of it. The bullets, for most intents and purposes, are the high-frequency photons produced in fission reactions and radioactive decay.

reminder that /RBMK/ is superior in every way to /CHRNBL/

Just a thought: could lethal radiation exposure actually sterilize your body and wipe it clean of something like HIV before you succumb to ARS?

WHY ARE THERE 2 THREADS AGAIN, YOU FUCKING IDIOTS

Are you stupid?

troll made one

I think viruses are rather difficult to kill. You'd be on the verge of death by the time that happened afaik.

/RBMK/ only, are you stupid?

Naming a general after a fucking reactor type is retarded. It's like naming /got/ /ironthrone/ or something.

We pressed Submit key once.

We're professionals at splitting threads comrade.

USELESS SHITS *forcefully hangs up old fashioned cord phone*

Your input has been noted and discarded

Virus are not actually 'alive'. Radiation could probably fuck them up still. Maybe it becomes super AIDS and they need to close the pool forever.

Yes but you die

I've made the past 5 threads, all /RBMK/ as it should be

The red is the melted core.

There aren't 2 threads.
Check the catalogue again you idiot.

Unironically chuckled. At least they got their small victory. There is nothing they could do to harm bureaucracy back anyway.

can someone put this face behind chloe mortez?

Dyatlov made a pretty good recovery using nothing but caviar sammiches.

Ukrainefag, reporting in. Can answer another series of questions and then going to sleep. Only two episodes of this masterpiece left..

why was legaslov so upset this episode?

Boris was right, the miners were making great time, the fire was out, and pripyat was evacuated

Three miles island is the closest the USA came to a chernobyl

When will we see Yuvchenko again?

Ie this one.

>i wish i was at home on my phone telling a party member that we should evacuate

>Stealing? Comrade, propriety IS thief.

They have DNA, which is what radiation fucks up.

>According to the American Nuclear Society, using the official radioactivity emission figures, "The average radiation dose to people living within ten miles of the plant was eight millirem (0.08 mSv), and no more than 100 millirem (1 mSv) to any single individual. Eight millirem is about equal to a chest X-ray, and 100 millirem is about a third of the average background level of radiation received by US residents in a year."[52][79]

how does a miner get so fucking fat? it's hard physical labor

Why was Legaslov kind of in a panic to hear the AZ-5 button was pressed at the end of the episode? He even tried to play it off like it was highly unlikely.

hey, why does his Scoutimeter even go beyond 9000?

Tell me about miners! Why don't they wear the clothes?

>cooling with liquid nitrogen
Why didn't Captain Nuclear Physicist call bullshit on this? You can install a normal chilled water cooler much easier and nitrogen has extreme shit cooling factor. It's not a fucking i9 9999k, you need to cool tons of heat off, for which water is one of the best materials.

in this pic she kinda looks like Sarah Connor in first terminator

the miner, why did he refuse to wear the mask?

Where can i find the podcasts ? i heard the showrunner was on r*ddit ?

Cunny enthusiast it's the proper term.

>dabbed hard by alpha Zhukov
Yeah ,right

Go to homedepot fill up pickup with mexicans repeat as necessary.

I really like this friendship, or comradeship between them. Just think, not long ago Boris threatened to have Valery thrown out of a helicopter.

When will we see him recover?

Attached: HEY.jpg (1006x504, 64K)

I'm not sure but i think it means that this reveals a design flaw, in every RBMK reactor in the union. It would be extremely distressing.

report to the roof

that's impossible

and Beria didn't last a day against Zhukov

>midul brits
nan da kore?

that's the emergency shut down, the power spike should not have increased after initiating shut down, he's concerned since if it did that suggests a serious flaw in the reactor design. A bigger problem than just some poor operators.

It means the reactor was a flawed construction, and that the rest of the Soviet reactors might be in an equally sorry state

Chernobyl Dollhouse
Ages 6 and up; choking hazard.

It was just banter, I guess he already liked the guy

What would Zhukov do against Chernobyl accident?

We are not worthy of Zhukov. He is to alphas what alphas are to the average basement dweller.

wtf is this, I don't know your memes

ez. Ukraine is currently the poorest country in Europe (behind Turkey, Moldavia and even Albania). Just showherthemoney.

I'm currently immigrating to Japan (know teh moonspeak). I would prefer USA over Europe because of CARSSSS. Western Europe is cozy, been there many times in ~10 countries, but fukken MUSLIMS.

My general opinion is:
1) faulty design (control rods having graphite tips, control rods actuator too slow, control rods pushed out by steam pressure, reactor construction above water pool, reactor having to containment)
2) reckless experiment
3) crew mismanagement due to FEAR
4) all these unfortunate factors together

The blood of the covenant is thicker than the waters of the womb.

>press the oh shit lets shut this down button
>the whole thing fucking explodes and goes tits up
wouldn't you be worried?

Fuck ups are possible everywhere. Chinese fucked up a dam and 200,000 people died.

Having said that, it was a really freaky chain of events that leaded up to Chernobyl disaster. They've literally did everything wrong up to the point of explosion.

drown it in bodies

not an exaggeration exactly but a very fringe possibility put forward by one of the several scientists now embodied by stronk woman. the more likely scenario was that it would just disperse a large cloud of radioactive steam which would still be bad and that is why they drained the basement.

it's not great not terrible

>Still waiting for flopping dong

podcasts on yt

Old timey russian is still russian.

It won't blow the fuck up when the core starts dropping in? That sounds like the scenario they were trying to avoid with the 9001 rigatoni explosion in episode 2. though I know they end up flooding the tunnel IRL

i've seen worse

They've dealt with 50%, 30% and 15% chance of extinction scenarios, now he's occupied with those with 1% and lower. Basically, there are hundreds of things that still can go wrong, but he can't see the bigger picture. He's a perfectionist. Which is actually good in this crisis.

Still, he should cheer the fuck up a little.

Because it means the AZ-5 button was what set off the explosion. Its to do with the void coefficient in a RBMK reactor thanks to the graphite in the control rods increasing the effect of the reactor until They are fully extended.

Shorter is easier to search for in catalog. Three to four characters acronym is ideal.

We'll see

Unlike Chernobyl 3 Mile Island had proper containment and while run retardedly it was built in such a way that even in the worst case the damage would be limited. RMBK reactors were build because they were cheaper than actually safe reactors, not because the Russians didn't know better.

Couldn't they just lightly spray a mist of water to deal with the dust, or does that only work above ground? Maybe it's dangerous for tunnel building.

He would quite literally probably do this aswell.

Probably tie a bag of sand to each comrade he told to march right into the reactor.

bad fake

there was some insane shit russian nuclear doctrine employed like a positive heat coefficience that didn't really help.

dyatlov's refusal to acknowledge that he had radiation poisoning, since of course it was just leaking feed water and certainly no exposed graphite; triggered a powerful placebo effect that saved his life. mind over matter.

Nope. Having said that we ***allegedly*** have a government which is less corrupt and will do stuff like, you know, immediately evacuate the town after a nuclear explosion and not spend a day faffing around saying EVERYTHING'S FINE COMRADE

I'll keep my pants on, thanks. Just not that hot, hehe

yeah it's real. there's plenty of pics and vids of people walking around and looking at the core. honestly that is probably way more dangerous than the elephants foot meme. pretty sure they don't let people in the sarcophagus anymore but they did for years and people seem to be fine, but they carried dosimeters and quality protection.

they'll probably still have a much higher chance of getting cancer in their lives though.

RBMK reactors were huge because they make dat plutonium in large quantities. More bombs.

HOW CAN THEY TAKE PICTURES OF IT????

Are you giving us the highest number you have?

Attached: chernobylfeat-770x433.jpg (770x433, 36K)

isn't Chernobyl a designated tourist attraction now?

Yeah, they unsafe by design and had no real containment and relied on active emergency countermeasures, hence the whole test that blew up the reactor in the first place, they tried to figure out how to make the emergency crap work even under blackout conditions and Dyatlov fucked it all up despite everyone telling him he's going to fuck it all up if he goes ahead because the conditions during the test were not in line with the testing scenario outlined beforehand.

I don't understand why that shithead wasn't executed.

>Devair's brother, successfully scraped some additional dust out of the source and took it to his house a short distance away. There he spread some of it on the concrete floor. His six-year-old daughter, Leide das Neves Ferreira, later ate a sandwich while sitting on this floor. She was also fascinated by the blue glow of the powder, applying it to her body and showing it off to her mother. Dust from the powder fell on the sandwich she was consuming; she eventually absorbed 1.0 GBq and received a total dose of 6.0 Gy, more than a fatal dose even with treatment.

That apple slicing joke was cringe.

Attached: MinisterOfSuckingCoal.jpg (311x340, 65K)

AZ-5 button means Aвapийнaя Зaщитa (Emergency Protection). This button activates mechanism that pushes boron-filled control rods into the reactor core, slowing down the reaction and shutting the reactor down. The problem was that these boron-filled rods had tips made of graphite (which is bad, it actually sped up the reaction instead of slowing it down). And the actuator motor was too slow (took about 25 seconds for the rods to travel down the core, while it would be ideal for them to be dropped in a second). So when the graphite tips entered the reactor core the power increased so much, the pressure pushed the rods out the core violently and prevented shutdown completely.

That's the connection between AZ-5 button and explosion.111

where's the graphite? did looters get in and steal it?

yeah but I'm almost positive they don't let you inside the reactor.

basd

how radioactive is that now senpai? nobody ever seems to be able to give a number. I know it's not "kill you in seconds/minutes" tier anymore but could you hang out there all day or is that still not advisable?

I was shocked to learn that the drain bros all survived and only in 2005 one of them died of heart attack.

But then again, water is a good protection against radioactivity.

You can drop a greencards from a helicopter into the core
Mexicans fill it with their bodies and bury it trying to scramble out

They had different reactors for that, RMBK was just a cheap way to generate electricity. Fun fact, they circumvented safety protocols several times after Chernobyl to fulfill electricity demands.

god damnit kek

Wait. Is this a spider web we see ? there's radioactive spiders on the loose ?

eh...some of the vids i've seen they look more like amateurs. not exactly high-level ph.d's or anything and more like eccentrics that want to investigate.

He's the main star along with Skarsgard.

because, my simple friend, the higher the radiation, the shorter the half-life

Is it safe to say, even if only after 3 episodes, that this kino belongs to the canon of HBO drama?

That 3rd episode was fucking magnificent.

What’s this dudes name? Also post ballsack.

Blue glow of the powder ? like when the reactor blew up ?

most of the videos I've seen were tourists and guides inside the other reactors, not reactor 4

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherenkov_radiation

It's on the ground.

In the 1980s it was a kill you in 30 seconds situation. Now its a kill you in 300 seconds situation.

thank god for all those party memebers that put the fire out! everyone should be commended

>where's the graphite
all over Europe, comrade

I have a dumb question:

If all of this radioactive shit is in the reactor and letting it out is extremely dangerous to everyone around it, how do they safely put the fuel *in* the reactor in the first place?

It's in a sarcophagus for a reason. I don't have any exact numbers to give you, but I'd imagine it would still be a bad idea to hang out near the reactor core all day. They might let people use robotics to take pictures inside, you know like one of the Army bomb disposal units with a camera attached. Although maybe not, I've never been.

tavarish Dyatlov I presume

what a hero

Can see the radiations on the pic, all the white spots. I guess still pretty radioactive but not enough to kill in a few minutes.

IIRC the radiations in the reactor hall were still between 500 and 1000 Roentgens per hour

wat spider ?

Its pretty good, he even tried to put the artifacting you get with digital sensors.
To bad he forgot those artifacts are multi colored.

Chernobyl is the number 3 rated TV show on IMDb, it was #4 yesterday.

A lot of it, but you still can't enter where they don't want you to unless you're a retard and sneak in.

seduces core-chan

...

todd, pls

No. Cherenkov effect doesn't occur in the atmosphere because the speed of light in that medium is near its maximum. Whatever that material was also couldn't have been radioactive enough to ionize the air around it. I'm not sure what the blue glow comes from.

It's really brutal how even after the incident the people working on recovery were still so uninformed about the dangers.

They wanted to freeze the ground.

>MINE, NICE AND HOT.

Stupidity is scary

m8 those black squares around the rods are graphite, it's literally right in front of your face

Drones.

Water vapor in the air?

there's more on YT i just can't remember which ones. one's about a guy who's a photographer and was very personally interested in it, and was allowed access.

Have you all watched E03 yet?

Carefully
Also there is no chain reaction going until it gets put in the reactor, like a gun with a bullet in the chamber. The firing pin still has to be set loose before the thing fires.

>tfw no qt widow slav gf
why even live?

but why are the rods exposed, crunched up some numbers and it doesn't add up

...

all powerplants that use steam to generate power are build near water.
they need the water to condensate the steam

Pretty sure its just stuff floating around in the air but yes there's tons of wildlife and insects living in Chernobyl and the surrounding area.
Lots of boars, wolves, rodents, wild dogs, cats, pretty much everything native to the area. There's even been birds spotted flying straight out of holes around the sarcophagus.

>Other contamination was also found in or on:[21]

"WHERE'S THE NUCLEAR CORE!?"

You're honestly retarded and I hope you get banned

Pretty cool user, what was your favourite part of the tour or place to visit?

The water isn't necessarily what slows the light down; it's the close spacing between atoms. Liquid atoms are way way WAY closer to each other than vapor atoms. Usually, the amount of space taken up by a gaseous substance in the atmosphere, at normal pressure, is negligible.

no
it's just air ionization
same basic principle as electric arc, but less intense

Banned for what? Making a more appropriate general?

I know it's a tourist trap for westerners who want to larp as STALKER and that you have more chances of dying from a volcano in Pompey. But God I would want visit it someday.

I'M NEW RUSSIAN MINER

Attached: hqdefault[1].jpg (480x360, 9K)

everybody knows what you're doing, which is why your last thread got shitcanned by the mods

fuck off you attention whoring nigger, this is the general and your thread is shit. Why do you have to be the one to make it, did your parents not show you enough attention as a kid? This thread is absolutely fine

Arachnids are very resistant to radiations.
Here's a quote : "Scorpions are among the most resistant animals to the dangerous effects of radiations. In this respect, they go beyond vertebrates, mollusks, spiders, and most insects. It has been experimentally proved that some species are capable of resisting doses of radiation as high as 154,000 roentgens and then survive for at least one month."

Spiders could resist radiations up to 75 000 roentgens.

>Chornobyl

Who had the bright idea of letting a bunch of thieving monkeys get radioactive materials?

Attached: 1508324066347.jpg (512x642, 48K)

1. that wasn't me
2. it got "shitcanned" for the gore picture, retard

I don't know either.

Comrade, your hat.

what about cockroaches?

>got shit canned for the gore picture we've been posted all night
lmao tv gore is not against the rules

Attached: 1541007991257.jpg (540x699, 55K)

So is my thread, nigger.

The same that had the bright idea to leave radioactive materials in an abandoned hospital.

The other day I was watching some urbex videos and some dude found a very old x-ray machine and started fucking with it, trying to turn it on and stuff.

"For example, the β radiation dose that causes 50% mortality in the American cockroach at 25 days post-exposure is 5,700 R, but to reach 50% mortality at 3 days post-exposure, 45,610 R are needed."

German cockroaches are slightly more resistant, at 64 000 R

So, let me get this straight: some scientist decided one day to try and test the effects of extreme radiation on scorpions and fucking spiders? They really want to doom us all, don’t they?

Look at those little white specks you see in these photographs. That's radiation!

interesting, tyvm.

ITS FOR SCIENCE !

They sent in naked miners with cameras

There was a big labs in USSR and US stidying radoation effects on animals and humans actually.
Check this Desert Rock experiment documentary, when US was testing bomb against soldiers.
youtu.be/kg63KmbmTpc

That's Soviet proletarian humor for you though, it was a way for people to shit on the system.

It's actually very important to know the resistance of other organisms, so that we can determine what makes them resistant.

For example, spiders and scorpions have blue blood, due to the use of copper instead of iron (which gives red blood). Thanks to that, their blood can carry more oxygen per cubic centimeter, so as radiation damages the cells that produce blood cells, their blood can still carry enough oxygen to make their metabolism work.
This pigment also helps in controlling DNA oxidation/ionization

So apparently, their blue blood is what makes them more resistant to rads, as opposed to mammals which are very sensitive to them
