The real reason? Because D&D strayed from the books and wanted to write the story themselves, but at the same time wanted to hit all the beats George told them will happen in the books in the end. The result is a horribly inconsistent mishmash of contrived character arcs, motivations, events, that makes no sense and exists for the sake of existing, has no setups, and awful payoffs. I would've preferred if D&D wrote a hacky show-original ending if it meant it was at least internally consistent. Maybe I'd even be hyped for the books if that was the case.

They managed to rebuild (and repopulate?) most of King's Landing before Bran even had a full Small Council. Were the Unsullied also trained in construction and were rebuilding the city when they had Jon and Tyrion as prisoners?

The destruction of King's Landing also had no real long term consequences. It simply served as a way to show that Daenerys had gone mad and then it was back to business as usual. This is even more extreme than when Cersei blew up the Sept and then there were no further ramifications.

Even in book one she’s saying weird shit about destiny, and her entire relationship with Viserys serves to highlight her flaws and strengths by comparing her to a family member. From the beginning her story is about how she has to balance her desire for (sometimes bloodthirsty) justice with her strong sense of compassion. She eventually rejects peace in the whole “Dragons plant no trees,” scene, which shouldn’t come as a surprise because that internal conflict is the core of her entire character. I don’t think she’s intended to be dragonjesus as much as that’s what she thinks she is, and that belief seems more and more unhinged to us as outside observers over the course of the narrative.

The Targaryens are well known as mad men though. they used their dragons to maintain their power despite their clear madness and rampant inbreeding which is known to cause mental issues. Dany doing standard Targ shit once she got dragons of her own isn't exactly shocking. Even in Essos she solves all her problems with melting people and is only spurred to perform good deeds thanks to her messiah complex. She destablised the economy and infrastructure of the entire reason knowing all along she would fuck off back home with the military might she gained there.

She isn't portrayed as "dragon jesus" shes portrayed as a one man imperialist force come to rape the natives and take the resources back home. She literally America, the UK etc and Essos is Africa, the middle east, India etc. How could you miss especially this given the scope of events provided by the show?

Barristan is currently trying and failing to be good at politics so I don’t think it’s unlikely that Shavepate gets him and Dany becomes even more untethered than she already is.

Dany can be the chosen one and still not be the best for Westeros. Aegon united the Seven Kingdoms, but he burned a ton of good people to get there, and GRRM is constantly going on about how in any conflict, there are good men on both sides and the cost of victory is killing some of those men. There’s no version of the story where Dany doesn’t show up in Westeros and end up fighting against half the main cast. We don’t care when she’s crucifying slavers, burning khals, etc etc but if she’s burning Stannis?
She’s destined to be powerful and influential, but that doesn’t mean she’s destined to be an infallible hero. This was never a King Arthur style story.
