Christian fundies trying to guide parents about what movies are "safe for kids", by reading reviews from brainless idiot fourth wave feminist reviewers who didn't even pay attention to the movie. It's the deaf leading the blind off a cliff.
It's a good poster when it's in big size, but the designers made less busy ones which are more suited as covers - and for some reason the marketers failed to use one of those as a cover. All those characters become tiny on iTunes/Amazon or in the BD shelf, but they look great on a big poster stand.

Although, otherwise it's a fairly honest review. I disagree with the characters being "lifeless" but the review does give a good approximation of how much violence, bad language and alcohol abuse there is in the film.

The movie is 1.9:1 aspect ratio according to the "IMAX difference" at around 20 seconds. This translates to nearly full screen 16:9 (like 1920x1011 or some shit) at full HD. Unfortunately the trailers mostly show the trash tier 1920x800 garbage aspect ratio. Are they going to meme the fuck out of the blurays with CROPPING or will it show as much content as possible?

Oh it's even crazier than that. Cameron didn't find the Alita OVA by himself, someone showed it to him(IIRC it was Del Toro). He fell in love with it, bought the movie rights, and spent 2 fucking decades planning this film. Even directed a cyberpunk TV show called Dark Angel in the meantime just so he'd be prepared to produce Alita.

I thought she was fine - she being in the movie made it better than it otherwise would have been. And the dogs were cool too. I found it better than chapter 2.

I was okay with Halle's scenes, other than the fact that they seemed kindof pointless in the overall scope of the film. The dogs were super cool. The fact that they went for the groin pretty much every time was an amusing touch.

My main complaints were in the totally illogical tactical choices the movie makes:

1. The extra guys defending the Continental are literal cannon fodder, they didn't even get body armor of any kind even though the hotel probably had dozens of vests of the stuff in the arms room. Overall their deployment was Game-of-Thrones-tier.

2. The defenders didn't default to rifles. Why? The only reason they had any trouble with the entry team was because the team was wearing basic ass soft body armor. If they had just picked some fucking 14.5 or even 11.5 ARs they would've cleaned up shop pretty much without issue.

3. The shotguns felt really forced. Steel slugs? Armor piercing? Seriously? These guys are supposed to be professionals. Refer to point 2, get some damn rifles.

Agreed on all points. The ridiculousness of the Table System is part of what makes John Wick funny, but I sort of lost respect for the character because of nr. 1. In that sense I refer back to something World War Z did right: Rifles are actually preferable to handguns in all respects - like penetration and even safety and ease of use - except for weight and concealability. A huge hotel lobby is not even close quarters enough to warrant a transition to sidearm - we'd have to talk fighting through crawlspaces and aircraft cabins before that becomes a thing.

To be fair the moment of John realising that he needs to go for kill shots in the neck gap between the plates was actual kino.
Overall JW3 reminded me of Alita most in that I had the same feeling I had when watching Alita of every scene where Alita/John wasn't the focus just left me wanting to go back and follow our protagonist more. That's honestly probably a really good thing for how well they've characterised the protagonists and how much we want to see them interact with the world around them.

Also the sound design on the shotties was monstrously good. Like really made you appreciate the distinction in the weapons. One more point though too is that every time anyone picked up a sword/knife they seemed to immediately get 200% worse at melee fighting. I get that it's to raise the stakes but like, seems ridiculous to introduce them and then have them constantly be liability unless thrown like in the antiques shop fight.

On the flip side, the moon battle and McTeague did the "leave the audience wanting more" thing very well. They showed us just enough of them to find it very cool and wanting to see them in massive set-pieces - but it's not a guarantee that we would have actually liked them.
I like that not every knife throw actually works, but some land on the flat - which would be very realistic when you're throwing unfamiliar cutlery. They do pull off the "guns don't work" trope by making one of the main sword villains a blade-hentai John Wick fangirl who makes the mistake of nerfing like Zapan against Hugo.

The asian death squad that was cleaning house with the security details of the various important characters was quite lethal and efficient with their bladed weapons, though.

Was it plot armor? Maybe, but still, not everyone with a sword sucked.

The sound on the shotguns was good, reminded me of the auto shotgun scene from The Expendables.

The neck kill shots were kino, but it was forced kino, because in reality a professional at John's level would have never made the mistake of taking pistols/PCCs into that kind of situation to start with.

Plus he would have had tactical command over all the interns with guns, presumably making them at least slightly more useful.

Yeah, every time the camera started focusing on Halle for too long I started thinking "no, I want to know what John's doing."

Yes, it's stuff like this - and the fact that John Wick by rights would be dead within 20 minutes of the first film - that makes me not take it completely seriously. But I like the action scenes and the characters so much that I'm fine with suspending disbelief. Not sure I'd watch this more than twice.

moon battle gave me the same feelings as the future war scenes from Terminator. Just a snippet of some real cool warfighting, and it makes you want so much more. Reality is more would probably take away from it. Genius!

Yeah I would agree that Alita teased at the world but it did satisfyingly resolve Alita's arc of growth in to a mature and emotionally complex adult. While there is of course lots to look for in a sequel she doesn't need one to be a complete person. John's emotional growth and revenge is not done by the end of the film, neither is the general destabilization of the world around them.
Yeah I'll say for sure that any kind of faster round would have been a much better choice and Wick really should have over-prepared even just hearing about the new armour.
Also I love that we can actually like, talk films here. Fuck this general is the best.

I think that the training snippet was actually the best of them for the worldbuilding. That along with the crashed ship are really the only insight we get in to URM tech which is something I'd love to see explored more.

The CG was weak in certain parts too. Horse kicks and the fall looked weak to me.

The fall was fucking slapstick and I wish they'd done any other way of getting him on to the street. I can buy almost anything else in the film but that finally broke my disbelief.

Fucking loved seeing his concierge buddy finally getting a piece. Even though he moves like a brick wall he was still pretty rad.

Despite some of the technical issues of this movie, I liked all the creative killing methods they explored. Using animals/antique weapons added some good variety.

The concierge getting some was great to see, but I feel like he wouldn't have lasted any longer than all the other generic white dudes in suits who got wasted in the first 2 minutes, and the fact that he did was due entirely to plot armor.

I tend to back up my Kindle with generational backup (rdiff) because I'm afraid that some of the "updated" versions that they push out in the future could include court-ordered redactions or something like that. Corrections are fine, as long as they ask before pushing it out, but I'm fully aware that my Kindle and Amazon Prime/iTunes/whatever is not fully in my possession. So I like to have physical media - if only in the form of a hard-drive download under my controll - in addition to the convenience of a "cloud" copy.
