This season seriously reminded me of the end of the Stand. Most of the book breezes by in bliss, then at the end it all crashes into this jumbled incoherent mess of bullshit.

First of all - scratch the NK origin story. Then fast forvard to the Long Ninght. Bran is having his autistic visions. We see long winter, deserted and unfamiliar towns, then some great hall with noble men. A raven flies in and sits on a statue. One man says in unkown tongue, subtitled: "Hm, a raven. Havent seen birds in awhile". "What bird, Wierdnorthname?" - asks the man on the throne. There is no raven. Cut to Bran, he tells everybody that he needs a white walker brought to him alive (? not in an ice bucket)

Some squad heroically captures one of the WW, you can make it really clever and thrilling. He's brought back to Bran. The undead army is about to attack. Bran adresses him: "Weirdnorthname" and wargs out hard.

"Wierdnorthname! What bird?" We see the King of the First Men. His wise eyes narrowed. Beisde him is a woman. Red Witch? But with white hair. She seems a bit frightened.The king says: "It is not Wierdnorthname anymore. Speak, spirit, I was expecting miracles before the final night. What do you want?"

Cut to undeads charging, the living army barely holds the walls, Bran is still warging out hard in front of the WW, the heroes become worried the shit aint gonna work. Cut to the NK's cold stare.

Cut to the past NK's kind face. The posessed man tells him in propheticly retarded way: "Your bitch is evil, this ritual will not save your kingdom. Cut to the battle, the situation is dire. We see spooky WWs. Cut to the past, they make their bone chilling oaths to the NK, they promise eternal loyality "And our kin.." NK ressurects the dead "Will serve you..

(CONT) So it seems that old NK got under the influence of the Bitch, Stannis-style. (But she is not Red Witch? We dont know yet) She said that this time the winter wil stay so long, you kingdom won't survive. So we gotta make one ritual, you and your lords will be put in magic slumber, you wont be hurt by cold. But when the winter is over you wake up, Some people that would have come and settle from the south would build you a new kingdom (thats why you all gotta say some magic oath) and all would be cheeki-breeki. The bitch had malicious intent. We see the ritual we see how it played out, it keeps cutting in and out past/present. Turns out the ritual itself caused the first long night, being self-fulfilling prophesy.

Nk is inside the castle. All that time their motivation was to midlessly reclaim the land, twisted version of his initial desires. He comes close to the Keep. A raven, true Three Eyed Raven, sits infront of him. Close up on NK's eyes losing a bit of the cold glimpse, some hint of the humanity. Cut to the posesed man in back there saying something Like you will see me in the future, I'll understand how the bitch was wrong. The other bitch will help you. Undead army stops and Bran tells to let the NK and WWs in.

Im tired of typing this shit so long story short, Bran has silent conversation with NK, tells the people whats what's what. The Red Witch has to ressurect NK with fire magic, freeing him from the curse of Undeath. It's all dramatic AF. And then we do deal with Cercei plot, redemption arks, whatever the fuck else arks. Change alot of the dumb shit in s6 and s7 also.

But a matrilineal marriage can exist anywhere, it's just a question of status. It's insulting to marry matrilineally so unless it's a low status male marrying a high status female, it's unlikely. A great house like Stark though, sure. They could marry someone who would otherwise never get that kind of power and wealth, any banner-man level lord would probably be happy enough about it and it ties that family closer to the Starks which will benefit them for generations.
We don't know who that would be since Sansa hasn't so much as looked at any of the surviving men but whatever. It would need to be someone that grew up a noble, so not Gendry say, and someone who wasn't already lord of wherever, so definitely not Gendry. Probably need to be a northman too.
We haven't seen enough of the northmen to say who that could be, they all seem to be 50yo men with Dwarf-tier grey beards, none are posh enough for Sansa's tastes.
