I loved the treatment of the Cardassians. Instead of just making them le evil oppressor race, the writers gave them a lot of pathos and depth. They're one of the best Star Trek races imo. Nowadays they would be depicted as totally cartoonish and one-dimensional.

Yep, probably my biggest problem with DIS. I think Burnham is a fine character but not interesting enough to carry the show.
