I honestly question why they never did it in post. It's a lot of work, a lot of rotoscoping, it might be unheard of for a show to do this, but a lot on this show is. It pales in comparison to the dragons. Her eyes being blue already actually would make it not so difficult, you wouldn't even need to be all that precise about it.
I mean, I don't know about the contact lenses that were apparently tortuous for her to wear, but I imagine unlike a lot of the specialist lenses for sci-fi and fantasy, they'd just be a coloured transparency rather than something goofy looking. With films and TV consistently being HD now, contact lenses consistently look bad. Why is there no investment in this sort of VFX field?
Really I guess since season 1 was comparitively low budget, they did nothing about it and that set the precedent for the rest of the show. But what if just at say, season 3, they had announced
