“It’s likely you’re already aware of the dissatisfaction with the conclusion tweeted hither and yon — six weeks of nitpicking complaints, first-class nerd whining and an ungodly amount of postgame analyses. Consider all those hastily posted diatribes or that pointless online petition with a million deluded signatures on it, demanding (demanding!) to have Season 8 scrubbed and remade. In some ways, “Game of Thrones” had grown so popular that it made its viewers look embarrassingly out of touch with life itself.”
“This can only happen when we love our popular culture a little too hard, crossing some line of personal investment, forgetting when a TV show is only just that. It was our fault for coming to regard the show as the apogee of the medium itself. It’s also why I’m glad some unnamed, unwitting hero left a coffee cup in the camera shot in the episode that aired May 5. That one coffee cup humanized the whole endeavor. It reminded us that a TV show, no matter how absorbing, is a folly, a fake, a job that someone is hired to do, so that an HBO subscription can be sold to you. The coffee cup will be scrubbed away with a quick flick of magic technology; but before it’s entirely gone, I hope they give it an Emmy.”
>I hope they give the show an Emmy for the coffee cup.
Simply amazing! Is Hank Stuever the intellectual equivalent to our boy Armond White?
Based Why can't the entire audience just lower their expectations so HBO can put less effort into shows and make more money for their shareholders?
Blake Wood
>The quality of the product doesn't matter because it's a product
Powerful, powerful analysis
Sebastian Perry
>a TV show, no matter how absorbing, is a folly, a fake, a job that someone is hired to do, so that an HBO subscription can be sold to you
I preferred this Gen X acceptance that popular media was shit businessman shovelled at you for cash, it was better than whatever we have now
Aaron Powell
Popular media is only ever a product and turning into a life obsession is the most cucked worship of the commodity possible, faggot
Cameron Butler
haha it's just a shitty tv show bro stop saying it's shit
Isaiah Barnes
Well he's not wrong HBO is making the best tv show in years as we speak, Chernobyl. The last great tv show was The Young Pope also by HBO. GoT fans are just the pay pigs for us patricians to enjoy our finer if not as financially sustainable quality entertainment. Now dance for me, nerd
Evan Morgan
Imagine forming your identity around being a 'fan' of a corporate product made to sell blu-rays and funko pops. Imagine how fucking sad you have to be.
Adrian Bailey
>People who hate a product they have paid for are cucked >People who defend the product for free (unlike the man who wrote this article) are enlightened
Yikes
Landon Bennett
thats an honext Xgen, pic related is a dishonest one
Not what he said. His point is basically "don't take this shit too seriously".
Jonathan Taylor
Objectively correct, game of thrones is as good as always, it had a pretty decent ending all things considered. The SJW crowd tend to think they are in the majority because their twitter feeds make them believe they are
Hunter Rodriguez
have sex, hank

hello HBO advertiser on damage control duty nice digits

I'm not 'defending' any product you big fat retard. Game of Thrones is complete dogshit, but you people get what you deserve for wasting your time and money on this trash
Henry Morales
GoT cucks BTFO eternally.
Adrian Long
It's been going on for the entirety of human existence, religion/myths are the same sort of marketing scam. TV shows/movies have become the new shared cultural story now
Nicholas Rogers
Rian is just an emotionally retarded gen Xer trying desperate to appeal to basedboy numale millennial adult nerds
Jack Collins
He's right, people take the show too seriously. There was a point to analysis when the show was an adaptation of the book series and it had a standard to compare itself to.
There is nothing more cringeworthy than these autists who upload 2 hours plus of them ranting into the void about fan theories and character assassination ad infinitum. It's fantasy, imagine if these people put as much effort into understanding real history and politics.
Oliver Sanchez
>Journalist Is there anything those guys do expect talking dumb shit?
Chase Jackson
> stop complaining! tv shows are not made for the viewer!
This. Even if the show was arthouse kino it wouldn’t warrant this level of obsession. Normies are lost, they have nothing to do so they obsess about a tv show.
Carson Richardson
>no argument That's what I thought
Bentley Gutierrez
Based and redpilled

>tv show is meant to be mindless genre shit about dragons and zombies >incels overthink it to hard and nitpick it to death >normal people cringe and laugh at them Yep that's about right

It’s your first week on Yea Forums, user, it’s ok to make mistakes.
this. surely if we're living in an economy of supply and demand (lmao), and this applies to culture and media, you can just stop consuming a product and the market will adjust?
Jose Cooper
Yes, obsessions with trivial things are bad, another gem. >It reminded us that a TV show, no matter how absorbing, is a folly, a fake, a job that someone is hired to do, so that an HBO subscription can be sold to you. His issue isn't with critical standards or the audience's enthusiasm, but with the concept of a company offering a product for compensation.
Gabriel Wright
>obsessions with trivial things are bad
way to completely miss the point and strawman
Jayden Cooper
I do they care so much about what a bunch of nerds think? I thought they were all intellectually superior
Hudson Perez
Based WhatCulture have also been shitting on Danyfags with FACTS ever since she went nuclear
Henry James
>In some ways, “Game of Thrones” had grown so popular that it made its viewers look embarrassingly out of touch with life itself rich, coming from the Washington post
journalists should be turned inside out and hung on hooks in front of every preschool so they can see what happens when someone is paid for being a useless faggot posting clickbait in a dying medium
Blake Gomez
>haha I disagree with them on a completely unrelated topic, that means they’re wrong about everything!
Brayden Cook
It's an article made by a shill trying to excuse the bad writings and a crappy tv series by blaming the consumer
Angel Mitchell
>nerd whining It ain't the 'nerds' dude...
Brody Price
I don't have a problem with "popular media" and "commodities". Those aren't magic words that dispel all notions of quality, and applying those notions to media is not the same as an obsession.
Adam Johnson
Where's the point of watching a show or a movie if you don't completely buy into it?
Isaiah Cox
This. The biggest complainers are the people with a virulent obsession with politics. They're complaining so loudly because it's not about the show to them
Brandon Watson
Suck the dick of your corporate masters cucks
Vote Trump or Hilary like the obidient consumers you are
Lincoln Brooks
this , reminder that journalist literally dont care about what they write outside of how much money/views it will get them , literal cowards that will change faces to save their asses at any given moment and its been like that since a long time : >The following is a list of Paris newspaper headlines reporting the journey of Napoleon across France, on his return from exile on Elba, March 9 to March 22, 1815: March 9 THE ANTHROPOPHAGUS HAS QUITTED HIS DEN March 10 THE CORSICAN OGRE HAS LANDED AT CAPE JUAN March 11 THE TIGER HAS ARRIVED AT CAP March 12 THE MONSTER SLEPT AT GRENOBLE March 13 THE TYRANT HAS PASSED THOUGH LYONS March 14 THE USURPER IS DIRECTING HIS STEPS TOWARDS DIJON March 18 BONAPARTE IS ONLY SIXTY LEAGUES FROM THE CAPITAL He has been fortunate enough to escape his pursuers March 19 BONAPARTE IS ADVANCING WITH RAPID STEPS, BUT HE WILL NEVER ENTER PARIS March 20 NAPOLEON WILL, TOMORROW, BE UNDER OUR RAMPARTS March 21 THE EMPEROR IS AT FONTAINEBLEAU March 22 HIS IMPERIAL AND ROYAL MAJESTY arrived yesterday evening at the Tuileries, amid the joyful acclamation of his devoted and faithful subjects
>barely anyone understanding what he meant (least of all OP, who takes his irony at the end seriously)
The general IQ in these boards has really dropped, and he's absolutely correct. People all over the world were treating this season (and all of them really, but mostly this one) as the single most epic event in human history, one of the pillars of modern civilization, a hallmark in entertainment. In reality, it's just another TV show. The expectations were so high, and so unrealistic, that the writers would never surpass them regardless of what they did - after all, most series are thought to have a "shit ending," like Lost. Many even disliked Breaking Bad's.
This level of investment, of getting genuinely angry, giving huge rants about it, acting as if it's a crime against humanity is just silly and childish, which is his main point. At the end of the day, it's adults pretending they see dragons and shit. It's dumb stuff.
Logan Garcia
the thing about journalism is that it's public facing, other profession are probably the same quality wise but they don't get that much exposure
Nolan Ortiz
This is a strawman made to avoid confronting the reality that the show is fucking trash now. Same shit happened with Star Wars, to cover their ass they're blaming the viewer for hating something so much when it's just a [product]. Just fucking consume without holding them to a higher standard you fucking drone jesus christ why are you so entilted to the writing standard set by earlier works?
Jordan Wilson
You are fucking dumb. Read the article. He says the finale was bad and disappointing. Which also doens't make it untrue that people act infantile about entertainment.
It's deliciously ironic that you'd call someone a "drone" while reading only what OP posted and being swayed by his baity thread. Unfortunately you might be too stupid to see the humor in that.
Thomas Ward
>Ranting at straw men Is it such a crime to not want things written terribly? The show creators wasted millions of dollars for a shit show.
Michael Mitchell
he's questioning their credibility, you fucking moron.
Jace Moore
Oh please this is nothing compared to the subhuman collective heralding their mouse god
Andrew Evans
>The expectations were so high, and so unrealistic, that the writers would never surpass them regardless of what they did
you are a retard
Nicholas Lopez
>It was our fault for coming to regard the show as the apogee of the medium itself. Why is it the viewer's fault for believing that a show written at a high standard would continue to be? Is it impossible to be the fucking ''''apogee of the medium itself''''', no that's a fucking title you would give something for being executed well. Which the show had been for a few seasons, and while it took a long time for the average viewer to see, the idea that something nosediving from best to shit isn't infantile, it's a natural reaction. Is being upset about that one fucking picture of jesus being repainted by a retard and looking like shit suddenly 'an infintile reaction to a loss of entertainment'? Or is that not applicable since it's jesus and not just another tv show lol?
Benjamin Cooper
You are responding to something that wasn't in the post. With a phrase no one uttered. To a point that wasn't made. It wasn't what he said or what I said.
Stop being dumb. Stop it now. R E A D
Cooper Garcia
>six weeks of nitpicking complaints
Stopped reading there. Who's this and why is his opinion relevant? just curious.

>MUH dudes it is impossible to finish a Tv Show that makes a shitload of money with a decent ending
