So, his entire reason for conquer was that he believed himself to be the closest in line to the throne, and thus had rightful claim to it right?
If he had found out that Jon Snow had a better claim, would he had bent?

The Targaryens were ousted as the royal family, he was the legitimate heir.

No, because Robert became the king through right of conquest.

Jon did not have a claim to the throne. Robert's Rebellion severed the Targaryen line by right of conquest. Until Robert's line was officially overthrown, or died out a new one selected, it would be the royal line. That said, with Dany conquering the throne, it would fall back into Targaryen hands, and then with her dead it would fall back on Jon.

He would have put it on hold to fight the army of the dead, but no he would not have bent. He would ask Jon to bend the knee, and would be fine with Jon's word that he doesn't want to be king.

If he were alive he'd have been elected as King though.

Jon didn't have a better claim though. Stannis was the closest relative of the legitimate king.

If he found out Jon was Rhaegar’s son, it would mean nothing. Targ rule in Westeros is no longer recognized, and as far as Stannis is concerned, he was Robert’s true heir.

He would've set his daughter on fire and thrown her at him

Gotta say, loved the lad Stannis.
Brilliant story arc, 10 out of fucking 10. Perfect dude to help lead the fight against the wight walkers and stuff.

Perfect end to his ark where he just sorta dies. Bravo D&D.

He lost because he was the champion for that chump god, the Lord of Light.

He didn't have a better claim. The last King was Robert l and Stannis was/is the closest living relative to him, Jon isn't.

Robert still had Targ blood though which is why Baratheons were allowed to reign.

True, but Stannis might have relinquished anyway. He had immense respect for the man who raised Jon. Of all possible claims to throne, Jon’s alone might have given him pause.

Imagine if Stannis had won the battle of the Blackwater and he was the final "villain" that Kelly C had to defeat. Last two seasons would have been better than what we got.

Also Jon is a self made honorable man who willingly tool the black and uphold his oath as protector of mankind. He is the kind of mind that Stannis respects.

Bitch, did you not pay Argentina to the last episodes, the main reason Daenerys went mad is because Jon had a legitimate claim to the throne and everyone knew that, dont start creating bullshit

I’ll be interested to see if Jon takes his “second life” to mean that his oath to the Watch really is fulfilled, assuming he is also resurrected in the books, of course.

It still hurts.

it was part of the reason. the other part was right of conquest.

>He had immense respect for the man who raised Jon.
No he didn't. He resented Stark since Robert obviously valued Ned over Stannis.

This

Not really. He respected Ned for his goodness and strong sense of duty. He resented Robert for what he felt was poor judgement. Stannis believed(rightly) that there was no better place in the Seven Kingdoms for a man like Ned Stark than Winterfell.
