It's one of those weird paradoxes of marxist and postmodern ideologies. In one way it tries to relativize all norms, e.g. social classes are constructed and should be broken, religion is a construction meant to oppress people, you get the idea. In some ways you can argue that is the case, but then again you need something to replace these hierarchies and the order they came with. You can't just remove them and hope for the best. So you need an authoritarian regime that ensures that society takes a new order that obeys the ideological rules of that regime. That authority needs to be as absolute as possible however.

So yeah, a dragon would be extremely helpful. Some undisputed power that everybody bows to like everybody bows to nature itself.

And they should, because that army must be used and will rightly conquer other lands beneath it, uniting everyone.

I don't think they are polar opposites. They are actually very similar in many ways. Both use the concept of group identity in order to explain the dynamics of life, the up and downsides of it, as the result of the conflicts between these group identities. In order to resolve these conflicts, a strong, authoritarian leadership is necessary.

The polar opposite of that is strict, self-organized individualism, i.e. capitalism, democracy etc. The axis here is the way these system deal with the inevitable complexity of societies: A local organization (i.e. everybody acts autonomously according to a certain set of rules) on the one side and a global organization (i.e. one grand authority imposes the set of rules on everybody) on the other side
