Why couldn't we get the MCU in the 90s?

Downey and ScarJo aside the Avengers cast were complete literally whos when they cast them. That said, casting utter nobody's is a more recent trend. I don't know if they'd have gone that path had they done it back then. So we probably would have got Cruise, Pitt, Leo at al.

If they could make a kino Superman movie in the 70's I like to think Iron Man would be doable in the 80's. It would be different for sure, but maybe the physical limitations would stop them from doing lazy shit like pasting heads on bodies.

Then again, James Cameron said Spider-Man was technically implausible in the 80's and if he couldn't pull it off I can't imagine anybody else could.
