>mom in town over the weekend >she's unmedicated paranoid schizophrenic or schizo-affective >usually doesn't talk to me about her insane ramblings, because I just shut down the conversation, keeps it to herself >educated, formerly worked for the federal government >usually watch shows and movies with her, True Detective (S1) last time she came >decide to try out Twin Peaks >watch first episode with her >after first few scenes, she gets up and grabs paper and a pen, mentions "doubling" >writes notes all episode long >episode finishes, ask her whether she liked it, she calls it interesting >ask what she means, she says it's like a show within a show but doesn't elaborate >sigh, try to move on, but she keeps asking to watch more Twin Peaks >say no, but she keeps pressing--eventually show her how to watch it herself
She's been binging this show all weekend long, finishing S1 yesterday and seems to be well into S2 today. She has at least 10 pages of notes and seems to be forming her own internal mythology of what she thinks the show is trying to tell her. She's never done this with any other show before.
Because Twin Peaks actually is trying to communicate with your mother. And it is a show within a show just like she said but you'd need to either watch it all or be schizo to see that straight away.
Oliver Diaz
>Showing a schizophrenic Twin Peaks Do you hate your mom?
Justin Ward
She isn't entertained by it. I asked her yesterday whether she even likes it, but she kept calling it "interesting" and finally said she wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Watching Twin Peaks has become a project of hers.
Logan Foster
Go on..

What do you want to know? I don't know what she's been writing, and I haven't looked. The one and only time I've looked at her writings was a journal about 15 years ago during which I read that she wrote wondering whether a coworker wearing a blue sweater and me being sick was coincidental. Aside from telling me "people are watching" 4-5 times each visit and that there are "electronic hazards" in my couch, I don't know what sort of extensive mythology has formed in her mind.
If she had actually enjoyed it, that might have been different. But her just using it as a vehicle to let her own thoughts run wild really killed any motivation of wanting to continue watching it.

Post nudes of your mom's feet
Luis Hill
BUT THATS HOW ANY TYPE OF MEDIA WORKS YOU FUCKING FAGGOT
You're a shitty son. Here's Hitlers poetry about his mom's dementia.
When your mother has grown older, And you have grown older, When what was once easy and effortless Now becomes a burden,
When her dear, faithful eyes No longer see life as they once did, When her feet, grown tired, No longer want to carry her as she walks —
Then give her your arm for support; Accompany her with gladness and joy. The hour will come when, weeping You will accompany her on her final walk.
And if she asks for something, then answer her. And if she asks again, then speak. And if she asks yet again, respond to her, Not stormily, but with gentle calm.
And if she cannot understand you well, Explain everything to her joyfully. The hour will come, the bitter hour, When her mouth will ask for nothing more.
Jaxson Baker
>sigh, try to move on, Explain this OP. You bailed on her because "she didn't get it" or something? She seems to get it more than you
Yeah, no thanks. My approach is not to deal with it.
Anthony Harris
>eventually show her how to watch it herself theres no way hes not miserable fucking failure
John Young
op is literally king of the brainlets >have a based sick mom wont make it another 10 years >is very interested in one of the best shows that ever aired on tv >nah. im gonna ignore my mom.
when everything comes crashing down on you, you will remember the time that Yea Forums BTFOed you
I don't really experience misery. If it's caused by some external force (e.g., a job), then I change my situation so I'm not impacted by it (e.g., quit).
Hudson Sullivan
>unmedicated Jesus christ boy, put her on the meds
Nah, it's not like she considers Twin Peaks to be a positive piece of work. If I had to guess, she sees something negative in it and harmful. To what extent, though, I have no idea... and don't plan on opening that box.
Bentley Green
Paranoid schizophrenia is a bitch. She doesn't think anything is wrong with her. She's functional enough that she can live alone, etc.
Kayden Ward
your old decrepit schizo mother is literally some how still smarter then you
Twin Peaks is about pedogate, snuff rings, child molestation cults, and the real way the world is run.
Colton Davis
Sure, I can believe that, but what she gets out of it is irrational points. She's not seeing anything intentionally evoked by the show, or if she does see it she simply accepts it as an aspect of the show. Her focus is on what her mind is falsely conveying to her.
>I like spending time with her when she's normal. >She doesn't think anything is wrong with her
How often is she normal? Maybe there's something wrong with you OP. You can treat someone with basic human kindness and respect without entertaining their delusions.
Thomas Edwards
Probably 90% of the time. I'm sure that percentage would substantially drop if over the years I hadn't put a stop to her attempts to make schizo-driven talk.
I don't like hearing about it because it's a defense mechanism--like I posted earlier, out of sight, out of mind.
Aaron Fisher
This OP, maybe I can finally understand it
Kayden Robinson
>because I just shut down the conversation that's kinda sad user. i don't know the situation so that's probably warranted but still
Sebastian Parker
she sounds pretty based user. i have the same non-appreciation of the sopranos. i know it's the best show, but fuck if i found the experience remotely enjoyable outside of the brilliant acting/writing
Hunter Bennett
it really isn't warrented though i used to be scared of aliens because i saw the x files when i was like 3 and the fear stuck with me until i was 24
then i thought about it logically and rooted out the fear op is just a faggot who's ignoring the problem until it becomes worse
Eli Hernandez
Well what is it about then? How can the plebs be educated if they want to learn?
Christian Miller
can you show me clear examples of this? i get the snuff rings (fleshworld magazine)
is the way the world runs like how leland got his family to sing that song in Norwegian or something?
yikes user. i'm uncomfortable with being reminded how judgmental i am at heart because all i can think is "what kind of fucking thing is that to say about someone unless you were deliberately being a prick (which i feel you weren't and that just makes it doubly annoying)"
What are the similarities? I haven't read it before.
When you've been dealing with it (or I guess not dealing with it?) since 6th grade, it gets old fast.
I've kind of wondered what might happen when she's 80~. Haven't thought on it in depth though because I figured I would wing it should the time come that it needs to be addressed.
Adam Perez
She expresses herself in normal ways about 90% of the time. Not that she *is* normal 90% of the time.
I'm not exactly sure whether she's a paranoid schizophrenic or simply is paranoid schizo-affective. She was held against her will at a mental hospital for a week about 10 years ago.
Aaron Bennett
I watched True Detective and Passion of the Christ with her, and she acted normally--was entertained by it, etc. None of this abnormal stuff that she's doing with Twin Peaks.
Parker Parker
What were the events surrounding her week in the hospital?
Oliver Long
What about X-Files?
Aaron Brown
Started from the usual, her calling the police on businesses because she felt electronic hazard when she entered the store. The officer asked me to take her to the hospital, so I convinced her to go in for an evaluation.
Thomas Johnson
Where does your mom live OP? I'll be willing to drive and watch the show with her if you want me to. Just to share some thoughts as to what each episode means. I'm sure she'll love it.
Josiah Jenkins
bootiful
Logan Turner
bro there's some REALLY sensitive touchy and faggoty people in this thread. fucking relax you think you know a man's relationship with his mom better than he does? this thread is a PERFECT example of the pseudo outrage unformed moralistic trite that redditors call "compassion". no you're just presumptuous Pharisees, get the fuck out of a TP thread and get the fuck off my board.
Sebastian Foster
it's funny because you can also always tell a Redditor by the pompous way they talk: "You're a shitty human being" "you're a horrible person and you should feel bad". instead of criticizing ideas they instantly attack the person instead, characteristic of a juvenile mind unable to form nuanced opinions after a surfeit of mass produced garbage media. small souled bugmen.
Bentley Hughes
Post the notes dude.
