Honestly, one of the nice things about early GoT was the lack of artistic metaphor.

I felt like one of the strong points of the series was how it was historical, and if there ever was hyperbole it was very subtle or ignored entirely in favor of STARK realism. This fucking poetry bullshit DnD pulled seems so far out of place with the attitude of the series. I think we all can appreciate metaphor in our stories, but there's a line that can be crossed and when it is, it feels less like an organic story and more of a self insert by the author to be clever. I don't want to see the author dancing around screaming look at me. Fuck.
