It might be blasphemy to comic artists but bio webs ala Raimey made much more sense for his character than Peter being yet another boring super genious. We already have so many of those.

Most costume designs have their histories steeped in ink purchasing or other related issues. He began with a red and black suit, or at least was intended to be so, but then they changed it when they ran into the issue of panels that had black backgrounds.
